Agreed. Discussion is what drives this community threads, not posts containing three or less words that have no meaning or relevance.

magicbus 04-12-2005 09:19 AM

Hi everybody. I'm in school. What's up?

Shred Danson 04-12-2005 09:22 AM

I'm in school as well, dude...listening to Opeth's Damnation...that album is so relaxing.

Mazeppa 04-12-2005 09:24 AM

We aren't allowed to listen to music at my school, it sucks.

Six Foot Revolver 04-12-2005 09:28 AM

Hello people

So after being gone for 8 hours this thread has moved a page forward :p

Iron Man 04-12-2005 09:30 AM

That's the best avatar ever, MXican

Shred Danson 04-12-2005 09:31 AM

Hey MXican, read the last few posts, bud.

Andwe aren't allowed to listen to music here either, but that doesn't stop me.

Mazeppa 04-12-2005 09:31 AM

Well that's because we are curbing our spamming urges.

Shred Danson 04-12-2005 09:33 AM

No, I meant at my school, we aren't allowed to listen to music.

...Geometry time. Seacrest Out!
Jesus, guys...

... if it only takes ten minutes to make a new page in this thread, there is no way that there is no spam in it :-\

This thread I made could help out a bit I guess. I am sure the mods wouldn't mind us bumping it if they knew why :)

Jom 04-12-2005 09:49 AM

Well, whatever works.

It's just that it started going towards Guitar Forum Community Thread status again, and that's the last thing we need.

Lecture was about Nixon in history today... but stuff like domestic and foreign policies, and of course Watergate. Nixon had no clue that he was going to win in a landslide in '72, but because of his paranoid nature, he had that team of burglars break in to the hotel and try to collect incriminating evidence.

Also, when John Dean testified that the phone calls were taped, the courts tried to get Nixon to turn over the tapes, but he exercised executive control over them. Eventually he had to turn them over, and with all this heat on him, he resigned as opposed to being tried in court... it was the last thing he could do to save face.

It's a bit cold outside, but the sun is out.

How's everyone's day going.

EDIT:

I'm going through the network and a couple people decided to add their music to it... I came across Jamiroquai, and I've only heard a few songs, like "Deeper Underground" and "Traveling Without Moving." Worth checking out further, or not really?

Meh, it was alright. Can someone please give me a link to a long user-titles website which isn't down?

Arucard 04-12-2005 10:32 AM

I think i stopped a massive amount of spam by making that A7X thread.

Six Foot Revolver 04-12-2005 10:38 AM

I have started work on a thread called 'How you can change the forums' :)

Bartender 04-12-2005 10:53 AM
Bartender will probably shut this down if everyone keeps on treating this like an AOL chatroom.
Yep. I was going to, reading through this (and the following pages). They made an effort to stop though, so it's alright for now.

What do you think of Nixon? And why didn't he think he was going to win?

If you like his general (smooth, retro-funk) sound, then yeah, worth checking out further. I don't think he's ever made a grand, world-slaying album though, so he's unlikely to become your favourite artist, or change your life, or anything like that. Fun, though.

Try to download the video for Virtual Insanity, too, if you haven't already seen it. You probably have, though.

Heh, yeah, I said something later on, but it was too late.
What do you think of Nixon? And why didn't he think he was going to win?
Well, he was always a paranoid individual. All his elections were close. When he lost a presidential race earlier, he went to run for the Governor of California, he lost there, as well. Basically, every single race he ever ran in was a close race, save for that last one. Ironically, he would resign a number of months later.

Ah, yes... I recall that video. It was pretty interesting with all the shifting that was going on. And alright, I shall obtain the album from the network.

Fair enough. I didn't realise he was particularly paranoid, but then I'm not American, never had any American-specific history classes or anything. I always like Nixon, though. And I didn't realise he was dead until some ten years after he actually died :-/

I'm speaking from my own limited experience of him (a friend of mine, from school not university, was a reasonably big fan) so I hope I've not sent you too far wrong :-/

I actually have that video on my computer here, though. I've downloaded a quite ridiculous amount of stuff, in past times, considering it's on a dial-up connection.

Hey guys. I'll not spam here. Except that I didn't really spam the last one either.

Permanent Solution 04-12-2005 12:14 PM

Hmmm...how to put this in a good way...
There seems to be a lot of bitching going on within the forums lately and everyone's trying to make them better places, which I applaud and think should happen. But I also think people need to realize places evolve and I think everyone needs to relax a little bit. This is a high stress period for anyone in school as finals are within a month and stress levels will only continue to rise.

I encourage everyone to stop being so uptight because it wears on everyone else. It's more a problem in pop-punk right now, but here too. Especially this thread, but everywhere too. I completely endorse MXican's thread, but it's the internet, and you can't expect everyone to put a ton of thought into what they do. Moreover, if I had to type out long eloquent responses to everything because I wanted to generate discussion, I would post maybe 10 times a day, and they would all be fantastic posts, but it would be less fun, and really, with all of the tension this place is not incredibly fun anyways.

So basically stop bringing external stresses to this board because no one needs it. If I'm completely off the mark here just ignore this, but the first 4-5 threads I have read today have been extremely bitchy and really I'm not much in the mood to read people complaining lately. Yes I realize me complaining about complaints is hypocritical.
How can we be so sure (to 'Peer)?

And AH is right, dudes. Keep the posting to a minumum level. It's OK to post, but not to just mindlessly spew crap forth from your mouth that has no meaning. Bartender will probably shut this down if everyone keeps on treating this like an AOL chatroom. You don't want that to happen to our precious community thread, do you?
It was her, by the way.

I must say I really do agree with you, lately an incredible amount of fun does seem to have totally vanished, but as you say for people in school stress and depression does run very high.
I think we all need to keep the general bitching and negative comments to ourselves as it does not help the mood of the thread, or the general site at all.
Personally i have recieved a few bitchy comments myself lately, and i can be very laid back, and quite humourous, But unfortunatly i must say if people are like this to me, I do get very pissed off, and can often result in just being an insular a$$hole, as i have stated before i am giving up cigarettes lol, So i do have a very short temper.
I accually hAcK*d a friends site the other day because he annoyed me, and posted idiotic things, and It worries me when people do that because i often do things to websites i often regret...
I don't personally don't think i would ever try and ruin it for people on MX, so that is by all means no threat by the way.
But yes, all general spam and bitchyness kept to a minimal would help all of us a phonominal amount.

Bartender 04-12-2005 12:38 PM

You don't have to type out incredibly long and eloquent responses to generate discussion, though. It's just chat room level spam that's annoying.

Anyway, apart from maybe the first year or so of it's existence, MX has always been incredibly bitchy. Maybe you're only just really realising it?

Eh, it just seems a lot of people think thoughtful responses=more words, which is true, but less thoughtful responses can still generate discussion, and people are missing that.

Eh, it's being kicked up a notch. No doubt my mood plays a part as well in noticing it, but especially in pop-punk it's almost a war right now, and it's just frustrating because I support the efforts, but at the same time I want it to remain fun, and too many people are polarizing the two.

I actually agree with this, Bartender.
Recently, allthough I may be halucinating, R&M has gotten really good, instead of the monthly threads which flame other users, we're starting to develop, like some other forums: Bass, Guitar etc, a strong comunity.

I'm enjoying R&M more so than ever right now, am I the only one...?

Six Foot Revolver 04-12-2005 12:49 PM

You are absolutely correct IAJP
