I think that one sucks. But it's majority wins here and so i'll go ask the mods to change the name of the thread.

Hep Kat 11-05-2005 04:43 PM

I concur.

I put on 2112 today after not listening to it for ages. The song's still great.

BludgeonySteve 11-05-2005 05:24 PM

Of course it is. It didn't change since you lasyt listened to it :p.

I've never heard of anyone getting tired of a Rush song.

Eh, maybe if they really overplay it.

Heh, you know what I mean. :p

BludgeonySteve 11-05-2005 06:15 PM

Yeah :p

I wish the mods would hurry up with that name changing.

BludgeonySteve 11-05-2005 09:39 PM

Sweet. Name change

I wouldn't call 2112 Rush's best album and so it might not be right for it to be in the title. I don't really care anymore

2112 is so great. I remember when that guy tried to insult it and got completely shut down. There's no messing with the greatness of Rush.

Pleabo 11-05-2005 10:58 PM

Hehe, I was on a road trip to Toronto the first time I heard Rush. My dad put it on, and I was like "Holy ****, this stuff is tits!"

rockinbass17 11-05-2005 11:02 PM

I love how each movement of 2112 is emotionally different from the last. The triumphant Temples of Syrnx, the joy of Discovery, and later the confusion, anger, realization, despair, and finally the epic outro.

BludgeonySteve 11-05-2005 11:06 PM

It's one of the most emotionally moving songs i've ever heard.

YDload 11-05-2005 11:23 PM

Hey, I'm currently tabulating the nominations for the top 100 R&M vocalists, and I think Geddy is going to make the cut! This is amazing, because I didn't think too many people liked his vocals (although I do).

rockinbass17 11-05-2005 11:26 PM

I do too, he can really wail.

thunderzstruck 11-05-2005 11:41 PM

Nice thread name :P

Yeah, Geddy is a really good vocalist

BludgeonySteve 11-05-2005 11:42 PM

I love his vocals. Is it too late to add my vote?

Pleabo 11-05-2005 11:57 PM

Leave that thing Alone is definatly one of my favorite songs.

I hope so, I nominated him. I thiink his vocals fit the music perfectly.

Xanadu 11-06-2005 06:12 PM

i hear that

:D Geddy is great.

Hep Kat 11-06-2005 06:19 PM

Geddy's freakin' awesome, one of the best vocalists in any genre of music, ever.

Hep Kat 11-06-2005 07:26 PM
How many more pages have you got to do? I thought Geddy would get through...even though loads of people don't like his voice, in a competition like this people actually know who he is, whereas with all these extreme metal vocalists, most of the forum won't have heard of them, or be able to actually spell their names. I like Geddy's vocals too...his voice can be annoying, but it fits the whole prog thing really well.
Geddy's voice builds up along with most of Rush's songs, and then climaxes in perfect sync with the song.

i think that's an excellent quality for prog singers to have

i.e. Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Dennis DeYoung, etc.

I can't say I'm a big fan of DeYoung. He just seems to caught up in the theatrics of the band rather than the music, and loses quality that way. I guess if you like that over-dramatic type of music, he's fine.

dr._feelgood 11-06-2005 09:45 PM

Geddy has an awesome, unique voice. He can hold some of those notes pretty well too.

I like his voice because it adapts perfectly to the music around it. Example: 2112. In the Temples of Syrinx, his voice is harsh and powerful, like the music around it. After that, in Discovery, his voice is quiet and clear, which fits the background of the waterfall and the acoustic guitar perfectly.

pohl_56 11-07-2005 07:22 PM

To whoever was posting about Dennis DeYoung-

I would have to say that he is awesome. He was lead vocals for my fav. band of all time (STYX) though he did get caught up a little too much in a theatrical aspect of everything, leading to the temporary breakup of STYX.

But about Rush: Geddy Lee is amazing! He has the perfect voice for the band and is all around a great guy from what I have been able to tell.

I've just never liked Styx much. Too much shine, not enough value for me.

Romencer17 11-07-2005 11:16 PM

I never really liked Rush too much. The vocals ruined it for me. But Styx is amazing, on the other hand.

BludgeonySteve 11-07-2005 11:28 PM

you can stand Styx vocals by not Rush vocals? They're pretty similar (I love both).

Why does everyone say the vocals ruin Rush? No they don't! I guess people can have their personal taste, but I can't see how it does. Geddy's voice is amazing, he's probably my favorite singer.

Jacaranda 11-08-2005 07:34 AM

He's voice in 2112 is amazing it just flows so well with the music. But I can see were his voice would get annyoing if I was more of the type for deep voices rather then high pitched or falsetto voices that I perfer.

Styx can't hold a candle in terms of musical talent when compared to Rush. Yes, DeYoung's voice is good, and yes, the musicians have skill. But Rush is arguably the most talented prog band in music. Neil Peart basically makes up for anything negative about the rest of the band.

BludgeonySteve 11-08-2005 10:52 PM

I can't find anything negative exept for the occasional 20 minute song that really isn't all that good.
