Didn't someone post a link to a total analysis of the album, that said it was a lament against capitolism? And, magicbus, if you could hook me up with those covers, that would be very awesome!
|
I posted the link awhile ago. http://www.ingsoc.com/waters/personal/animals.html if you need it again.
The covers are on my other computer, so I could probably get them to you on thursday or something. |
Sweet. Thanks.

I listened to the new songs off Waters site,
I don't really like them, but I'm intriuged by "Amused To Death"... |
I can't stand it when people discover DSotM or The Wall but don't explore the rest of PF's catalogue, I had to force two of my friends to overlook Dark Side and TW to hear Animals, WYWH, and Meddle. I'm not saying Dark Side and TW aren't superb albums, because they absolutely are, but it's sad some people don't dig deeper and explore.
I understand, but I personally think DSotM is the best Pink Floyd album, even after hearing almost everything else they have. Not to degrde their other stuff though, PF is one of my favorite bands. |
My take on it is that the Dogs keep trying to get ahead and succeed for themselves, but really they are controlled by the Pigs, who use Dogs to gain control and keep it. No matter how much success the Dogs have in life, it won't matter. The Pigs have control over the Dogs who they then use to control the sheep. I think it can be applied to communist Russia as well as a purely capitalist system.

I'm still on the fence as to whether Waters intended "Animals" to be in the same allegorical sense as "Animal Farm." I've read the article Magicbus posted, but on the surface, and on a deeper level of symbolism, there are a lot of similarities.
All I know for sure is that the album kicks ***. Hooray for prog! |
I just realized what may very well be one of the most under-rated Pink Floyd songs. Any Colour You Like. I always marvel at the guitar solo, and the interesting keyboard work at the beginning.
What do you guys think of Any Colour You Like? What do you guys think are some other under-rated songs by them? |
One of my favorite Floyd song ever. Definently my favorite of DSOTM. I just love the whole psychadelic funky thing goin on there. I still have trouble figuring out which instrument is which though. When I first listened to DSOTM I couldn't tell the difference between the instruments on that song.

Pink floyd don't allow their music for adverts, probably some one esle |

Yeah that's true, something I've allways found a bit weird.. |
Yeah that's true,
something I've allways found a bit weird..
I think that's respectable. They don't want to commercialize their music, that's all. As for Live at Pompeii, I really need to find that on VHS before its too late. Because they won't be selling VHS tapes after this year. And I heard the DVD had some funky editing and isn't as good as the VHS. But I might just have to get that, cause that's all I can find. |
It's good that Pink Floyd still have respect for their own music, not selling it out.
The only artist I cant get mad at for using his music in advertising is Jimi Hendrix. Mainly because he's dead. |

I could be wrong though. As for Pink Floyd marketing their stuff, they did once. They appeared on an ad for a German soda because they were told it would bring ticket prices down for the fans. When they realized how much they were being used, they lost their naivete and haven't appeared in an ad, or commercialized their music since. |

Heh. Well, good luck finding it. It was a magazine ad or something from the early 70's.

If I had to pick a albm that PF reached their pinnacle in music success, I'd arguably have to say DSotM. The main reason it became so popular and you see tons of spectrum shirts these days is because, that album was a masterpeice. As much as I've listened to it (almost everyday) I still never get tired and it resides in my CD player as we speak. I just meant that PF has alot more than just DSotM to please the ears. :) I have yet to get the Live at Pompeii video... I'd like to see Echoes (one of my favorites) being played live, that would rock. :thumb: |
Indeed it would. I'm currently trying to order it from my local record shop.

*is watching the wall live in berlin*
Just a Rodger Waters thing but there's lots of special guests. |
Like who? Details man!
|
Bryan Adams, The Band, Thomas Dolby, Van Morrison, The Scorpions, Joni Mitchell, Jerry Hall and lots more.
Lots of backup musicians for different songs too. Rodger Waters sings on all of them as he is the star of the show. edit: they have a whole symphony too ;) |
I dont know if anyone remembers, but a few weeks ago I posted a paper I wrote for philosophy titled "philosophical themes in dark side of the moon." well i got it back, and i got a flipping F. "theres no philosophy in it" is what my teacher said. I have until tommorow to make it up, and although Im on christmas break, I still have homework to do. ahsdhashd

as for the Live In Berlin DVD, I got sick of that pretty fast, bc I dont like most of the guest singers. (p.s. roger sings all of his usual parts in the album, and all of the gilmour parts are sung by different people)

Ouch, that has gotta bite. :( sorry about that man. I haven't seen the Live In Berlin with Roger Waters DVD yet, probably cause I can't find it in any stores around here, I'll probably order for it online. Has anyone seen that David Gilmour Live DVD? I heard it has Shine On and some other PF classics. Wanted to know if it was any good... |

Really? I read your paper, and it sounded pretty darn good. What are you going to redo it on? |
