They all have more talent than they are given credit for.
Craig is probably the only one I can think of who, SEEMINGLY, has the least talent. But I can't say for sure, I mean, I don't know what it takes to do what he does, since I don't do it. Chris and Shawn are good at what they do, but they seem to want to headbang more than anything. Oh well. Mick and Jim's riffage is good, and they can solo in spite of not doing it, as shown on the new album, and in the now-infamous Line 6 video of Mick going nuts. I used to think Paul was worthless till two things happened. One, I listened to MFKR, and realized there were alot of good basslines on there. Someone had told me before that it wasn't Paul, but it was indeed Paul playing those nifty bass licks. And then, I read an interview he did, and he said flat out that he chooses to lay back and provide a solid rhythm foundation, and that he likes more often than not to keep it simple. He said he had a few chances to show off on Volume 3 (most notably, some of his fills in Vermilion) but he felt that the band was not about one person showing off, but rather the band as a whole looking good. Joey is overrated by idiot fans, and underrated by elitists. The man has a ton of speed, and his parts fit. He's not a god, but he's not a bad drummer either. I guess I'll just take Remedy's word for it about Sid, I haven't really paid much attention to him. But he seems to know what he's doing, and some of his work on the S/T album was really cool (see: Surfacing) Corey can sing really decently when he wants to, as shown more often on Volume 3. It usually turns out to be a love-hate relationship with him though, either you love his vocals or hate them. I fall in the middle personally. The man has a good voice, and decent scream, but I can easily think of people better than him...but also, think of people he's better than. In general, Slipknot gets overrated by their 'maggot' followers, and underrated by guys like Dargon. They are good at what they do, and some members may have more talent than others...but overall, they aren't talentless...but not God-like.
Wow... that was perfect. I couldnt have put it better myself. |
Craig also used to be the guitarist, so its not like hes just a talentless schmoe.

There are plenty of drummers that are better than Joey, but you cant deny that Joey is a good drummer. He really gets the job done as far as I am concerned. |
Wow, mad
In a interview with shawn, They asked what they thought about having nine members. And he simply explained "its orchestrated madness" |
Metal is for pussies who think their hardcore, and Slipknot is not even worth thinking of an insult for.

I dont like them because they sound like trash. Thats why I feel how I feel. How can I be in the wrong forum if I have an opinion about the post?

Because you come into a forum for fans of metal and tell us our genre of music is 'for pussies' Seriously, based on your avatar, I don't think you have any room to talk. But on a less visceral note, if you aren't going to talk positively about metal, get out of the metal forum. |
Joey's a rad drummer, not the best but still very well up there. On the 9 member issue... it's so original for a metal band so that = rad!
|
Yeh ive heard so many discussions about Joey compared to othes drummers/His talent. He is my favorite musician, But im not gonna say hes the best drummer, Because he isnt.

Just because :) And what does satan have to do with metal?
satan was the angel of music,if you beleive in him |
how awesome are those drumming solos on the dvd? Slipknot have very talented musicians, most of them session players.
|
I didnt think the drum solo on Disaterpieces was very good for some reason. I know he could pull way more stuff than that, But the seqeunce he put the beats in worked out very well.
|
I didnt like the drum solo on the dvd at all, he can do way better, anjd if i remember correctly, it was really short too. but the dvd was awesome...
|
Well you got to give him credit. Remeber he was moving up, down, forward, and backwards.
|
That dosent matter, That was his idea
|
Yeah i guess he probably should have either practiced more moving like that or had just stayed on the ground and played something better. In my opinion it was too repetitive. All he did was connect a bunch of tom/bass fills really fast then threw in a quick groove. No dynamics.
|
The drum solo that he seems to be well known for really isn't that good.
Seriously, I think people should look at his drumming in a song setting for good drumming, because he's good at that. Who cares if that particular solo sucked? |
