For the record, I found that Umphrey's McGee album, which brings me to my next point: has anybody heard of them? They've been considered the heir's to Phish's jam-band throne.
I've heard of them, but I've never actually heard them. Is it any good?

Yea so far it's pretty cool. I haven't listened to the entire album yet though.

pegwedge 09-13-2005 01:13 PM

I've heard Anchor Drops has been their worst album so far...but that's just what I've heard. I've never listened to it. I had the chance to see them at All Good but I got sick on Saturday night and they played the late night/early morning set. Check the Live Music Archive for some live Umphrey's. You're sure to find some there. In fact I think I'll go get some now just to see what they're like.
What's happening with Burning Spear? Are they playing a show or something?

I think everybody here had heard of them, but I haven't heard any of their stuff myself. I know Badmoon hates them.

Haha, true.

Burning Spear is pretty good, I've only heard 2 of there albums.

Daniel! 09-14-2005 06:30 PM

I'm quite a big Burning Spear fan. For such an old guy he's been doing some pretty heavy touring lately.

jpj 09-14-2005 07:55 PM

SCI is coming here in October and DTB in January, got my fingers crossed.

I would love to see them. They're a very cool group.

I saw North Mississippi Allstars at the House of Blues in Chicago, and I highly recommend both the band and the venue. During the encore the bassist from Widespread Panic (I have blanked on his name) came out which brought a loud applause from the crowd. Anyone know where I can download shows of these guys, as I don't believe they're on Archive.org.

I'll be seeing Raq out here shortly as well.

Jam2Me 09-20-2005 04:52 PM

Zilla (side project Michael Travis of SCI) is coming to town, supposed they just improvise the whole time, no two shows are alike.

Daniel! 09-22-2005 09:08 PM

Hey guys, I'm looking for some more bluegrass oriented jam bands. Any band/album reccomendations would be greatly appreciated

Yonder Mountain String Band
String Cheese Incident
Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon
Leftover Salmon
Hot Buttered Rum String Band
There's a lot more I didn't mention, jambase.com could hook you up with all of them.

Some of my personal more mainstream Phish favorites include (but not limited to):
Divided Sky
Chalkdust Torture
Run Like an Antelope
Free
Prince Caspian
Frankenstein
Down w/ Disease
Llama
The Lizards
Wolfman's Brother

Good Luck, and if I might inquire, what other jambands do you listen to?

Another Prince Caspian fan

For some reason, that's my favorite Phish song. A lot of my friends listen to Phish, and they like it, but don't see how it could be my favorite. I don't know what it is, but there's something about that song that I just love.

For guy looking for Phish songs: Run Like An Antelope seems to be one of Phish's most popular songs, so you might want to try that one. Actually, their whole debut album is very good. Bouncing Around the Room is another highlight from their debut. I'd by their debut, called Lawn Boy, if you're looking to buy an album.

Daniel! 09-25-2005 06:02 PM

Ugh. Gov't Mule and moe. are playing together nearby but it's on a Wendsday.

jpj 09-25-2005 06:06 PM

The Mule is coming to town in December, hope I can go. Phil Lesh & Friends in November, and there is no way in hell that I'm missing that.

I saw the lizards at some opening show of some building somewhere, I don't really remember, but they were pretty good.

Yeah, who's in his band these days?

PID08 09-26-2005 02:19 PM

I'm not big on the whole jam band thing as a whole, but I've got plans to see North Mississippi Allstars, Derek Trucks Band, and Gov't Mule in November. I love the heavily blues and 'classic rock' based jam bands, but I don't like the Dead-style jam bands so much..

Walrus Gumboot 09-26-2005 03:57 PM

Whoo!!!

Phil Lesh & Friends:
Sun-12.04.05 Washington Avenue Armory Albany, NY
Tue-12.06.05 Chevrolet Theater Wallingford, CT

Now all I have to do is find a way to make hell freeze over so that my parents will let me go

2nd Worst case scenario: my parents won't let me go
Worst case scenario: my parents will want to go

Did anyone watch that documentary on Bob Dylan on PBS the past two nights? It was really good. It featured interviews with Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Joan Baez, Al Kooper and more.

I saw it. the same documentary came out 2 weeks ago on DVD before it aired on PBS. I thought it was very well put together. Scorsese did a fine job.

jpj 09-28-2005 06:04 PM
Yeah, who's in his band these days?
Warren Haynes, John Molo on drums, Jimmy Herring on guitar, and some guy whose name escapes me on keys.

Tom 09-28-2005 06:36 PM
