No. But I did burn a bunch of cds off of the original vinals ;). Oh and I bought Metallica-Ride the lighting, but you guys don't care about that...

Ephemeral 05-29-2004 06:19 PM

He said Doesn't matter what genre. so that means yes, we do care! Have you guys heard Classical Gas by Mason Williams? Great song.
I always implied that you knew you were, and so did everyone else, but you didn't want an avatar or anything. You want me to make you an avatar? If so name 4 bands, and perhaps your favorite albums by them.
That'd be great, Let's see....

The Who - the kids are alright
Cream - Wheels of fire
Supertramp - Crime of the century
The doors - self titled

Ahh i wish i'd bought some new CD's recently but i'm kind of low on cash, (and my discman is broken) But my brithday's coming up soon so hopefully i'll be getting some good stuff.

Finding my Rock

Alright, to start off I'll respond to the initial post by saying that I love the Birdland album. I just really started listening to Rock and Roll (classic, none of this new shi-ite) about a year ago, and it was one of the first true albums I picked up. 'Nough about that.

As for my favorite bands, Zeppelin tops all of them, closely followed by Boston, Bad Company, Rush, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd (the band that got me started), Cheap Trick (what can I say, I'm from Rockford), Cream, Alice Cooper, the Yardbirds and several others that I know I'm forgetting. I like some of the Who's and the Beatles' stuff, but I started listening to them after Zeppelin, and there is just no comparison.

As for the Darkness, they're fun. I know they're not as good as the classics, but if you listen to them a bit and give them a chance, they can be a pretty cool band. Plus their live shows are awesome.

Are you going to take the avatar?

BludgeonySteve 05-30-2004 03:09 PM

It's too big or something.

On another note does anybody like Kenny Wayne Shepard. I love his bluesy style and guitar playing. One of the best players that is still fairly new :thumb:. Also an awesome band.
Are you going to take the avatar?
I would but it's something like 75 bites over the limit and i'm admittedly not very good with computers.

Badmoon 05-30-2004 07:44 PM

^I'll fix it, you'll have it by tommorow.
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
Listen To Montrose,

Such a great group, and horribly underrated.

Thanks for all of this :thumb:

DVG2 05-31-2004 09:10 AM

BTW, what you all think of Oasis?

DVG.

Badmoon 05-31-2004 10:34 AM

^They're mostly good, in my opinion. But that song "Wonderwall" is just so popish and annoying. I also hate how people realate them to The Bealtes. That is just so idiotic.

BludgeonySteve 05-31-2004 03:48 PM

Oasis isn't bad. I mean there's so many more bands that I like better but they're alright. Not really classic rock though.

systmj 05-31-2004 04:30 PM

um...have we forgotten the great and allmighty Black Sabbath? Sure, if metal isn't your "thing", you should atleast acknowledge their influence to alot of bands today.

Badmoon 05-31-2004 04:31 PM

^Well, no we have mentioned them, and they are a Classic Rock band before a metal.

BludgeonySteve 05-31-2004 04:36 PM

Yeah and they kick ***. Next n00b...

*next n00b who didn't bother to read the thread before making asumptions comes forward from the line*

Classic Rock Revival

I dont know if its getting a revival. My closest friends and I all love classic rock but all the kids at our school have ****ty music tastes and like rap and pop. There are even kids who have bad tastes in music inside of rock. In my school there is no revival of classic rock but its popular amongst my friends with good tastes.

BludgeonySteve 05-31-2004 08:41 PM

How old are you? Most likely this guy is in middle school or junior high or something. Not a bad thing but people tend to get better tastes in music as they get older.

gratefulphisher88 05-31-2004 09:04 PM

Im only 15, and i like very few bands from the 90s and today. quite a few were dead before i ever heard of them. my favorites are:

grateful dead
Allman Brothers
skynyrd
Led Zeppelin (who is not overrated. the reason they seem that way is they are that good)
Jimi Hendrix
Cream/Clapton
Bob Marley (i know he's not classic rock, but still...)
pink floyd
neil young
stevie ray vaughan

But, there are some good bands from today:
PHISH-widespread panic-oasis-pearl jam-moe.-goo goo dolls(if you like punk get their old stuff)-radiohead...

BludgeonySteve 05-31-2004 09:06 PM

Awesome. That's a better list than most people who post their favorite classic rock bands here.

you rock man i totally agree that led zeppelin and the beatles are the greatest bands of all time, i own every single one of each of their albums and i rap more than the devil along with this new wannabe punk rock(simple plan, blink 182 so on) no "musicians" nowdays can even play the instruments yet mark hoppus the pick using, one-note the whole song, untalented dick gets his own endorsment from fender before jaco pastorius or geddy lee. it makes me sick
