Well considering most of the artists themselves have beef with the term and its named after an electronic music mailing list surely you can't blame the music for what it has been labelled by the fans and press. Your beloved krautrock faced a similar situation, I believe. I try not even to use the term electronica anymore out of fear of facing the brunt of some elitist headphone wearing **** who manages to be even far more anal about electronic music then any metal fan is about metal so I try to avoid the term IDM where I can but I can't deny that it serves a nice purpose as a sort of umbrella term for several artists that will help most people know who you are referring to at least.

I'm still not that completely sold on it but out of what I have extensively listened to Autechre and Boards of Canada are my favourite artists of that particular ilk and Chris Clark is creeping up there, his work is impressive. I never saw the big deal with Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, although I really like some of their stuff. I like a few albums here and there from Mrs. Jynx, Wisp, Stendeck etc. and I would like to check out more.

Anyone know if Sigillum S is worth hearing? I liked what little I've heard.

Aaron 12-05-2009 04:06 AM
no aaron we do not need IDM in here

industrial thread is for intense sound collage and gothic synth lines
There was IDM in here before you were born.

Meatplow 12-05-2009 04:36 AM

Aaron is the IDM granddaddy.

I've never heard of that act FatalEnergy, i'll look into them.

Yeah no band has ever liked being categorized into any genre.

They either like to go with something very vague like "rock" or there are those who want to make up their own genres like future pop, awkward pop or industrial jungle pussy punk (mindless self indulgence)

Something I was ****ing around with earlier, need to mix it better and expand it. Sounds like complete garble unless i'm listening to it through headphones, then its still garble but feels like I can take it somewhere.

Ventriloquist 12-06-2009 07:15 AM

Nice, where are the voice samples from?

Meatplow 12-06-2009 07:29 AM

ancient british exploitation film What Became of Jack and Jill?
haha awesome

which one ?

the only Boyd Rice I've listened to was Easy Listening, i might need to give it another listen to be sure but i remember it being really elementary and gimmicky .

Txus 12-08-2009 01:52 PM

You should listen to some Current 93, Alex.

Jaundice 12-08-2009 01:55 PM

i'm pretty terrified of listening to neofolk but i suppose there's a time and a place for everything.

what's a good album?

Txus 12-08-2009 02:00 PM

Why the fear?

And I guess you could start with All The Pretty Little Horses.

Jaundice 12-08-2009 02:27 PM

You know how it is with me, i have crippling fears of the unknown. I'll check out that album tho, better be good.

Haz, you should listen to Negativland. Krautrock-inspired sound collage goodness. Some of their songs actually really remind me of Cripples Crossing Highways.
