Is this only going to be a digital release, or will you be getting hard copies done?
I'm going to get some CDs pressed, too. I can get a deal on a small batch (100 CDs). I won't need more than that, likely. You interested? They'll be $5 + shipping. :) |

Why yes, I am interested. Do I have to pay extra for a signed copy with personalized message? |
Is my ipod bass tuner app as acurate as a digital tuner?
|
Probably.

My roommates and I have recently started this new endeavour where we host live shows in our house. It's been pretty wicked so far. Three or four bands for each show, we take pictures and some video, at the last one we started recording the audio of the sets and posting them on a bandcamp page we started, and in the near future we're going to begin having artists display their paintings, drawings, or whatever else they may want to put up.
It's been pretty great for meeting people and bands, introducing bands to each other, and generally just giving artists of all types some exposure they may not have gotten otherwise. |
That's kickass, man. I do editing work for a local music publication that heavily promotes under-exposed local music, and puts on events to promote bands. Similar in some ways to what you're doing. Props!
|
It's been really enjoyable and rewarding.
What you're doing sounds like a pretty cool place to work. Do you ever get involved in the community stuff, or do you just work on the actual editing and whatnot? We've been getting in touch with as many bands as we can, networking, making connections with people. It's funny that after such a short period of time sometimes when we contact bands it's already at the point where they've heard of us and what we're doing. We've even had some bands contact us saying that they want to come play our house. And now we're talking to a few of the bigger bands in the city and trying to get them to play, but they're a bit more fussy with expectations of money and such, but because we don't charge cover, any payment would be out of our pockets, which we just can't afford. |
Nice. Sounds like you're growing in a similar way that the group I work for is, although we have recently started getting money from a couple of the shows to pay bands with, which is sweet.
I do editing, but I also go to the events and talk to/share the bands and whatnot. I know the woman who runs it well, so I can give her feedback occasionally. I definitely feel a sense of community. It's pretty cool. Link some of your favorite local bands. I'd love to check them out. |
Also, today is release day for my EP.
Check it out on Bandcamp (free for download, or pay what you want). http://starsintheocean.bandcamp.com/ Or follow me on Facebook, if that's your thing. https://www.facebook.com/starsintheoceanofficial |
I listened to one of the songs (the first one) last night, really nice stuff.
Here are some sweet bands in Toronto right now, all with free downloads of new releases: Formalists - folk/pop/classical(ish) http://formalists.bandcamp.com We Were Heads - punk/post-hardcore http://wewereheads.bandcamp.com River Tiber - electronic/poppy alt-rocky stuff http://www.rivertiber.com Neighbourhood Watch - indie/alt-rock http://neighbourhoodwatch.bandcamp.com The Will Coke Band - acoustic/pop http://www.willcoke.com Hairy Holler - dirty southern bluegrass kind of stuff http://hairyholler.bandcamp.com There's a few to get started. Actually, no free download for Hairy Holler, but they're a really great band. And here's our bandcamp, where we post live recordings of the performances at our place: http://thebevdalemansion.bandcamp.com A couple pretty wicked performances up there right now from a guy named Carlo Meriano who performed on Saturday, as well as a band called New Stems who played the same night. |
And a couple more:
Most People - electronic dancy Animal Collective-y http://mostpeopleband.bandcamp.com Absolutely Free http://absolutelyfree.bandcamp.com |
http://tomurderamachine.bandcamp.com/
^Music made with nothing but a drum machine and several bass guitars layered with each other. enjoy. |
Sweet Spiff. I'm off work tomorrow, so I'll check all that stuff out.
|
is there still a bass forum irc
|
Hairy Holler, and Will Coke are awesome, Will Coke especially. I downloaded his album and will keep my eye out for anything new.
|
And River Tiber.
I dig the stuff you guys are doing, too, in your place. Any pictures of your space? I'll link up some sweet Vancouver bands when I get home from work, and go through the rest of the list. |
Yeah, Will Coke is great. He's a long time friend of mine. I love We Were Heads, too, Capital H used to play a bunch of shows with them a few years ago. And Formalists are really awesome, too. I don't know if you did, but check out the song Allegretto if you didn't.
You can check out (and like) our FB page, we've got a bunch of photos up there. http://www.facebook.com/thebevdalemansion I'm curious to hear what kind of stuff is happening over on your side of the country. |
When someone from a world-touring band recognizes you at their show as "those mansion guys," you know you're doing something right.
|
Wait, you have a mansion?
|
Not even close. That's just what we call the place.
|
Ah, gotcha. I was about to invite myself to Canada.
Actually, I should do that anyway and come visit you and Ben (separately). |
Well, yes. We don't exactly live anywhere close to each other.
We used to call our place the Farm, just kind of as a name. I mean, we keep a vegetable garden in the back yard, so that's why we called it that. But we needed a better name once we started hosting shows and stuff, so we changed it to the Mansion. It sounds classier. |
Hi people
Here you go, boys. This thread is the new Bass forum. :chug:
Hi people. I'm a beginner bass guitarist but i know basic cords and scales. I have a cort action bass guitar and I'm playing bass guitar for more than 3months. What amp would be great for a beginner? Kind regards Framigan:lol: |

I can reasonably see it all in two weeks, right? Do you guys have anything other than snow and socialized medicine anyway? ;) Mansion does sound super classy. I'm awe-stricken. As of two days ago, I have a website. After seeing my TA's, I thought getting one for my grad school career would be a good idea. But then I accidentally made it a professional website for myself as a musician. Oops. Maybe I should get a second domain for my collegiate one? |
i dont like fish
|
Well this was surprising... Thought I would pop by the old stomping ground, and bam condensed to a single thread haha.
|
Well... yes.
|
I replaced my bass player, nowadays i just turn the bass eq to 11 on my amp.
|
I replaced my bass player, nowadays i just turn the bass eq to 11 on my amp.
What a coincidence! I replaced my guitarist recently by turning my treble up to 11 and scooping the mids. EDIT: And also running my piezo pickup (separate output) into a HPF set to 350Hz and sending that signal to a Dual Rec. |
Seems to be doing well. He sends me links to new tunes, but conversation never really progresses after that. His facebook url is /Liam7 if you want to hit him up there.
Aight, I'll hit him up sometime, see how he's doing. I always forget there's not bass forum anymore every time I swing by here, makes me feel old. How has everyone else been? I don't even play music anymore, just screw around with cars. |
Been well. I took upright bass classes for a month or so, but due to constraints with my schedule, I had to stop. Now I just fiddle around and do some electronic music for some random elective music class I'm taking.
Lately my life has been focused around surviving my last semester as an undergraduate. Beginning this fall, I will be in the Mathematics Ph.D. program and teaching 20 hours per week. I wish I knew more about cars. I know how to do all of the basic stuff (oil changes, filters, brake pads + rotors, tire rotation), but that's about where it stops. My odometer just rolled over 75k miles, though, so I'm sure I'll be able to pick up more along the way. |
I've been working a lot, and playing a lot, as well. Not so much on the bass front, but I've been playing the shit out of my tenor guitar. I'm starting to build up a pedal board now.
Just got an EHX POG2 last week. Fucking sick. Also running an EHX Cathedral reverb (which I've had for a few years and will go to the grave with), and an EHX #1 Echo which I will probably replace at some point. It's okay, but I really, really want tap tempo on my delay. Also have a sweet Pigtronix Polysaturator distortion. |

How's your band doing and everything?
Lately my life has been focused around surviving my last semester as an undergraduate. Also, it's one of the reasons I bought a beater car, at least a beater car that I wanted and would want to drive, so that I could fuck with it, not feel bad if shit breaks, parts are plentiful, and if something goes wrong, there's a club out here in HI that I hang out with that have people far more knowledgeable with said car than I who could help me trouble shoot. |
I haven't been playing in a band since I moved out to Vancouver, although both of my roommates are musicians, and we play pretty much every day, but it's all jamming. Been just going at it solo for the most, which is what I'm used to it, anyway.
I can't remember what you're doing in Hawaii... is it military (navy?)? |
Oh, no doubt. Have you made any new music recently?
And yeah, I'm stationed out there with the Navy. I hate Hawaii so much. I'm currently touring the southeast, though, have been since last Friday, and it's been a fucking blast. I love this place, and the music scene out here still seems strong, especially compared to Portland, OR. I'm actually seeing Crystal Castles on Wednesday in Atlanta, possibly seeing After the Burial/Within the Ruins on Tuesday in Columbia. Hatebreed/Terror are also playing in Spartanburg Tuesday, but even though it would be a fun show to go to, I don't care about any of the bands that are playing. |
wow
i like to check up on here every now and then i can't believe the bass forum is gone... |

How much longer until you can get re-stationed?
Just came back about a week ago from a tour of the SE, shit was fun as hell, and I loved it out there. I'll be sure to listen to that EP ASAP and let you know what I think because I know you care so much. :D I have less than 3 years left, and there will be no being restationed. I'm out once my contract is up. |
