woah cedric sings on the song "a day in the life"

Iluvatar 05-21-2009 01:38 PM
It grows on you. Better than Bedlam by far
yeah, it took me a couple of listens to like it.

oathfbass 06-08-2009 09:25 AM

Am I the only one who thinks the intro of Halo sounds similiar to the intro to Time by Pink Floyd?

McP3000 06-08-2009 09:37 AM

havent heard it yet, but that wouldnt be surprisng. Omar has spent the last 6 years ripping off of 70s prog rock

lmfao. i was a bit shocked when I found out Omar is basically the one who drives the band with his ideas only and and even more shocked when I read it's really just Cedric and Omar and other musicians who they hire so it feels less like a band and more like an ensemble.

Anyway you can hear what i'm talking about from hearing it in the preview.

I agree with the laughter at the comment, but I must say, I do enjoy all 5 of their albums. Not every song is a masterpiece or anything like that, I just really like the music they make.

Zmev 06-11-2009 10:33 PM

No theyre essential and amazing.

McP3000 06-11-2009 10:37 PM

nah just the first two

I think Deloused was brilliant, but that each subsequent album was a massive regurgitation of a lot of the same ideas from a different angle. Plus his vocals have become less appealing to me personally.

Zmev 06-11-2009 10:47 PM

Clearly you don't understand The Mars Volta

Aaron 06-11-2009 11:23 PM

Clearly I prefer to listen to real fusion like Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Chick Corea Elektric Band, The Tony Williams Lifeline, Weather Report et al.

I think it's great that they're reviving fusion and getting people into jazz through rock, but toting them as being hugely experimental and influential is a bit much considering how small their impact is beyond reintroducing people to musical styles that were done thirty years ago.

Zmev 06-11-2009 11:27 PM

lol because i was so serious

Aaron 06-11-2009 11:29 PM

Well I just got trolled then, lol. But my point of view remains.

Iluvatar 06-13-2009 04:15 PM

if you really think tmv consider themselves fusion and are trying to revive any of that

lol

Aaron 06-14-2009 09:11 PM

Well the interviews I've read with both Theodore and Pridgen have indicated they do [I'm a drummer so I don't look into the guitar side as much].

Iluvatar 06-14-2009 09:24 PM

they are a rock group i dont hear any fusion

pretty sure omar and cedric are lol'ing at people calling them random genres all the time

Aaron 06-14-2009 09:30 PM

I hear fusion elements that are quite prominent. Happy to agree to disagree though.

Iluvatar 06-14-2009 09:40 PM

im just saying i dont think omar thinks he is making "fusion" music.

Aaron 06-14-2009 09:49 PM

Darkthrone think they're making metal, but it comes out punk now.

I don't get how there's a correlation between intention and output.

Iluvatar 06-14-2009 09:55 PM

that was never my point christian boy

Aaron 06-14-2009 10:15 PM

Then I'm thoroughly confused what we're talking about.

Iluvatar 06-14-2009 10:18 PM

Perhaps the answer lies in the octahedron

oathfbass 06-14-2009 10:30 PM

I hear fusion more in some of Omars solo works
