bj has a unique voice, anyway, it would sound wierd.
Yeah, he has a unique voice, which would be one of the main reasons i'd want to hear a cover. I've really come to find Green Day boring now, however much respect I have for them.

You know a band thread has died when you come on to find everyone simply saying the lead singer's name over and over in weird and wonderful ways...
YES! I'm an angry lazy teenager with no girlfriend songs!

Thats what got me hooked.
To be fair, he can't really sing about that stuff now that he has a wife. That wouldn't be genuine. It's one thing to keep playing those songs for the fans, it's another thing to keep writing about them. That would simply be trying to recycle the same material. They would continue to sell albums and they wouldn't try to do anything original. They would be selling out their ideals if they didn't try to move on.

Whether you like Warning or American Idiot, they are not mainstream sell out pop rock. Warning is more inspired by the Byrds and Kinks than anything that was popular at the time. And American Idiot actually tries to make an artistic statement--despite all the sappy ballads.

nag*with*a*gun 05-26-2006 12:59 PM

he could complain about his wife.. I know thier marriage isn't that perfect.

Oz Rembrandt 05-26-2006 01:29 PM

I fail to see an artistic statement in American Idiot. I see an album pulled together, just barely, and stuck with a "We hate George Bush" ethic to it, because its whats the popular thing these days.

As for Warning, well, I don't deny that its a good album, but the influences don't interest me. Those arn't bands that interest me, so the music appeals to me less.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be moving forward, I'm saying that thats what got me into them, but they've moved away from singing about things I can relate to anymore.

Bad Blood 05-26-2006 01:31 PM

I think AI is quite a solid album to be fair.

nag*with*a*gun 05-26-2006 01:37 PM

^agreed

not thier best, but solid

Oz Rembrandt 05-26-2006 01:43 PM

I don't, but its not because it rose to super-popularity, its probably more because of that very reason that it no longer lyrically appeals to me. I'm not a politically based person. Also, the music seems fairly simple. Maybe it was intended, but I miss Mike Dirn't hammer on work.

nag*with*a*gun 05-26-2006 01:47 PM

yeh they really didn't have that much bass on this.

im still a little thankfull to American Idiot because it got me into Green Day, and then I got Dookie, and I was like Whoa! They can do this?!

Oz Rembrandt 05-26-2006 01:50 PM

Haha, Nimrod got me into Green Day, and I bought their back logs from their on, and they just got better and better. Warning came out, and I was a little dissapointed, but I still loved the album.

Bad Blood 05-26-2006 01:51 PM

It didn't have very good bass because of Mike's wrist.
