Oh well. You never did it though BuddyBigsby. You should have done it. As for ride, i don't think he copied off of you or anything. No need to get hostile :p

Ok here's a question, if it hasn't already been asked.....

How far do you reckon Metallica would have gone if they stuck with Dave Mustaine as Lead Guitarist?

I'm not to sure myself, as Kill 'Em All was my fave album and Influenced rather heavily by his songwriting (YES I know it was only 4 songs) plus the early Megadeth stuff was top notch.

Roll up, Roll up
Kill 'em All was good, but , in my opinion, I say that Metallica really got their unique sound on Ride The Lightning (although, If i remember right, there are one or two Mustaine songs on it )
Anyway, I think Ride the Lightning is their best cd, love it.

Jason_Marrs 11-19-2003 07:28 AM

No offense to your comment Superpeer but I love And Justice for All. Every song on there is awesome. Blackened, And Justice for All, One, To Live is to Die. Thats my top four for the cd, but all the songs on it are great.

superpeer 11-19-2003 07:45 AM

Yeah, agreed, it's an amazing cd,
I just like Ride the lightning a tiny bit better

TigerArmy 11-19-2003 07:47 AM

Master of Puppets was nice....

Rob Trujillo looks like Donkey Kong playing bass.

Erm, bump, bump, bump.

Kirk's Puppet 11-19-2003 07:54 AM

^XD, Rob Trujillo rocks!!

I love to listen and play For Whom The Bell Tolls on guitar. I play lead too (Kirk's part!!) and whenever I hear the bells, I orgasm :P

Kirk Hammett is my favourite member of Metallica and my favourite musician!! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! :thumb:

And R.I.P. Michael Kamen :(

i second that. i jus found out and it nearly has me in tears. the man was a musical genious. weve lost a great one. Youll be missed :upset: :upset: :upset:

stonedtothebone 11-19-2003 11:17 AM

I think metallica made the wise chioce when they picked up kirk hammet. Metallica are nothing to what their music used to be.But they deserve credit for being the greatest metal band at that time. everything after black was crap, with a few exceptions. I think they should play orion live (I have never seen it) then call it quits

Ok here's the other question, what is metallica today had Cliff not been killed. Would the songs that made them famous ever been made? (by the songs that made them famous I meen when they became insanely popular around the black album period)

mister_riz 11-19-2003 11:51 AM

I dont think Metallica should call it quits, but I agree most of the post black album or even post justice stuff is not my thing even though I know people who like the later stuff better. Anyway whatever youre opinion is about there 90's 00's stuff no-one can deny theyre still trying new directions, I mean St Anger wasnt the best record ever (I thinks its better than ok, but obviously most people dont like it) but my point is (finally) not many bands are trying new things too much nowadays and as long as they keep the same attitude towards 'evolving', their greatest album could be their next.

Who knows.

Long live Metallica.

Killa_Bee 11-19-2003 12:10 PM
Long live Metallica.
I second that!

And R.I.P. Michael Kamen! The Symphony Orchestra DVD was excellent IMO, and its sad that the brains behind it has died :(

superpeer 11-19-2003 02:09 PM

Bump

BrOkEn SoUl 11-19-2003 02:14 PM

Recently in all these Metallica threads everyone keeps giving them a slagging about the(not so good) St Anger album and the recruitment of new bassist Rob Trujillo. Well yeah the St Anger album in comparison to all of the other Metallica albums was 'not so good' and there were no solo's but we did see the return of the double bass kits again so thats one thing to be happy about. But what the point is, all 'Metallica haters' or 'I only like em before the black album' etc......shut up,you have to remember what they did(Ride the Lightning, Puppets, Kill em all, Justice, etc) but everyone criticises them on what they're like now, I mean yeah they aren't as good as they were before but they'd kick ur *** any day. Bring back the solo's Kirk and stop repeating you're lyrics James.

Toozey 11-19-2003 02:14 PM

For uber fans only, here is the link to the first live performance of the Unnamed Feeling, its just MP3 right now so watch out for the MetOnTour video thats going to be posted soon, heres the link:

Question :

Is there a reason why James sings the word 'motorbreath' in a strange way? Or is it just a speaking disorder

Metallica Rule

Hey metallica rule, for me they are the greatest band ever, and they always will, even if their new stuff ain't quite so epic as songs like One (what a riff), Fade to Black (what a song), Dyers Eve (what a solo, finger ripping good) and **** like that but they can never be regarded as rubbish man, no way. maybe they changed coz they wanted to or maybe they changed because after the black album Bob rock wanted them to change who knows (well, metallica do probably) but they still ****ing rock, just listen to/see them live like i did at reading this year and they are absolutely brilliant live, with fire works and pyrotechnics and **** like that going of it was ****ing amazing, playing classics like for whoim the bell tolll and welcome home (sanitarium), they still got it. so if they were allowed to/wanted to make an album as good as their old stuff i think they could easily. i hope metallica release at least 1 new album and i hope they return more to their roots like kill 'em all and master of puppets. Because up untill and including the black album they were in the zone making the best song with heavy *** riffs and tight meaningfull lyrics; they were the golden days. that's not to say i don't like the metallica after the black album because their music is still much much better than most of the desposible happy horse **** that bring up the bile from the back of my throat. long live metallica, **** a 20 year carrer sure as hell aint something to turn your nose up at. long live real metal and down with nu-metal bollocks.

METALLICA RULE
dont forget it

thecondoom 11-19-2003 04:19 PM

hammet4prez 11-19-2003 07:31 PM

Master of Puppets and the Black Album are probably the best Metallica cds. One is probably one of the coolest metallica songs. That song might have one of the coolest bridges I've ever heard.

Cecillianne 11-19-2003 10:46 PM

i bump this so that no one would make a metallica thread.

Wow, this is seriously working, i think we've gone one day without a metallica thread!!!! YAY!!!

Kirk's Puppet 11-20-2003 05:55 AM

The Unnamed Feeling link is broken :( I love that song, a I also like St. Anger! :thumb:

Load and Reload are really good compared to other bands around at that time. But to Metallica's standard, hell no... But Fuel, Unforgiven 2 and a few others kick major ***!! :thumb: Thumbs up for the boys of Metallica!!

Hey, do you guys realise Rob is now thinner?

NenjuzRul 11-20-2003 07:41 AM

my dear god

i cant believe i have read through eight pages of this ****

there are about 5 or 6 posts from people that have actually listened to Metallica

why dont you people stop talking about music that you obviously know jack **** about, and start listening to some!!!

practically every metallica song pre "Load" is either good/or going to teach you something about good metal (atleast at an introductory level).

ps. playing **** from load, reload, st anger is ****ing piss easy to come up with. As a songwriter myself, i have come to the conclusion that Metallica has either become lazy, or has better things to do with it's time than to concentrate on music for large amounts of it's time. Please guys - who cares about having a family, playing good metal is what life is all about

stop posting rubbish here as well, and dont download metallica songs or lars and james will sure your asses, buy their cd's pussies

Kristian 11-20-2003 08:26 AM

I think Nothing Else Matters is the best song... And Welcome Home (Sanitarium)...

Kirk's Puppet 11-20-2003 08:48 AM

Yeah Nothing Else Matters is the best! But Sanitarium ain't a close second to me. Master of Puppets, ...bell tolls are the cool ones. One is pure asskicking too.

Nenjuzrul, I'm sorry but I do not know which side are you on. -. -"

Here's an idea...Go to hell! :thumb:

You obviously are too stupid to grasp the concept behind this thread.

Steve DeBerg 11-20-2003 10:11 AM

I have a question that undobtedly can be answered in here. I was just on a sight that explains lyrics and the only explonation for Fade to Black was that it was about losing the will to live (duh) but the dude said that It was written when the bands equipment was stolen. Is that true? Does anyone know the story?

superpeer 11-20-2003 10:18 AM

^
Don't know about that, but i've heard that were just interested in death at the time of recording, being adolescents.
It's hard to believe that the loss of their equipment would be the only reason to write a song like that

No they wont 'sure' our asses, they promote file sharing through Kazaa, Napster, etc.

And I think family is more important than playing metal mate, however much you love it;)

I don't think was the reason for writing the song. I've herd that story about the equipment before and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.

KingCrimsonFan 11-20-2003 01:39 PM

I know I'm a newbie and all but I'm surprised that no one has mentioned anything about the Call of Ktulu. I'm a guitar player and I thought it was quite a feat when I learned it. I just like the overall ambience and strenuous guitar parts and the monsterous bass line by Cliff. It is kinda repetitive but is high on my favorite Metallica songs.
