Yeah me too. I really doubt Floyd actually wrote it to coincide with Oz.

I feel the same way, it's nothing special.

This new thread tripped me out.
If anyone's interested in trying "Dark Side of the Rainbow", this site is helpful.
There are several theories on how to achieve the "effect", but all are pretty much the same. :thumb:
I think I'll pass, thanks.

So, I listened to Animals again today. That Album is awesome.

I'm positive they didn't.

I'm getting more into Animals recently, but I still don't see why everyone loves it so much.

I haven't been able to get into Animals lately, I've been listening to more Barrett era stuff.

Yeah, it was just a coincidence.

I feel sorry for the poor chap who decided to press play when the lion roars.

There's a dvd out called Dark Side of the Rainbow. It's The Wizard of Oz but the audio track is Dark Side. I saw it on eBay, along with Alice on the Wall.
Meh.

I used to only listen to it for Pigs (Three Different Ones)

robo2448 11-13-2005 02:49 PM

I didn't really love Animals that much until I heard a live bootleg of Pigs that was 20+ minutes long. Then Pigs became my favorite song and I started listening to Animals more and more and started really digging it. WYWH is probably my favorite, but Animals is right below that.

I've got a 20+ minute bootleg version of Pigs too. It's supposedly during this song that Waters spit into the fans face, triggering him to write The Wall.

He wrote a whole album on that one incident?

Yeah that's what I have. Amazing stuff. Thanks to Kingofdudes or whoever uploaded that song a while ago.

Spinal Pap 11-13-2005 03:21 PM
He wrote a whole album on that one incident?
Well, there were other things involved, but that's what really set him off to feel like there was a wall between him and his fans.

Isn't the wall about Nazism and stuff like that?

Spinal Pap 11-13-2005 03:31 PM
Isn't the wall about Nazism and stuff like that?
Not really. Med gives an in depth analysis of it in his FA he did on Floyd, you should go read it.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286205

It's a great write up.

DeusExMachina 11-13-2005 04:37 PM
He wrote a whole album on that one incident?
No. But that one incident was the catalyst that led him to question who he had become and all sorts of other stuff, which led to The Wall. So, you could say that without him spitting, the Wall would never happen. But, that's speculation of course.

YouGottaBeCrazy 11-13-2005 04:58 PM

I think I've decided that my favorite post-Waters Floyd song is "High Hopes." What about you guys?

DeusExMachina 11-13-2005 05:33 PM

Quite possibly High Hopes. But Marooned is also amazing. As is most of TDB.

YouGottaBeCrazy 11-13-2005 05:56 PM
Quite possibly High Hopes. But Marooned is also amazing. As is most of TDB.
Very true.

TDB > AMLOR

in my opinion, of course

standard 11-13-2005 06:13 PM

I agree. AMLOR has that typical 80's sound.. I like it, it's classic, but TDB > AMLOR by far.

I love Wearing The Inside Out, Lost For Words and Keep Talking the most probally.

I really like the whole album .. :P

Broken Arrow 11-13-2005 06:16 PM

I'm not that big of a fan of post-wall material.

Kingofdudes 11-13-2005 06:18 PM

AMLOR has its moments. Sorrow is a great song.

I agree that TDB is the better album though.

robo2448 11-13-2005 06:20 PM

AMLOR is very hit and miss. Sorrow, On the Turning Away, and Learning to Fly are incredible songs. Most of the others are pretty bad. Not too much in between.

Indeed. The Final Cut is probally Waters best work lyrically.

I would say that One slip and Terminal Frost are both pretty average songs. Not great and not horrible.

I hate "Yet another movie/round and round" with a passion.

I think people are way too unfair when it comes to this album. It isnt nearly as bad as people say it is. Same with The Final Cut.

A lot of people hate Yet Another Movie.. I like it. I don't like the industrial sound too much, but it is a good song.

I was like that for a while too. I started listening to TDB just recently, and it's pretty cool. As for AMOLR, I really only like one song on there. I've never listened to The Final Cut and I don't really plan on it.

standard 11-13-2005 06:53 PM

You need to listen to The Final Cut.

If you'll listen to TDB, why won't you listen to TFC? It's an exception album.

magicbus 11-13-2005 06:54 PM

I don't like the fact that Waters took over the band.

robo2448 11-13-2005 06:57 PM

I like The Final Cut. Good songwriting, but instrumentally it's definitely Floyd's weakest and essentially a Waters solo album.

YouGottaBeCrazy 11-13-2005 07:06 PM

I like The Final Cut. It's pretty good, IMO. However, I think Waters took over the band about the time of Animals. Or am I wrong with that?
I like The Final Cut. It's pretty good, IMO. However, I think Waters took over the band about the time of Animals. Or am I wrong with that?
He had 100% control of the lyrics, but David and Rick still contributed to the music at that point.

During the Final Cut, David had the odd guitar solo, and sang on one song. Roger brought in Michael Kamen(sp?) to replace him.

standard 11-13-2005 07:10 PM

Waters was very controlling during TFC.

On the song Two Suns In The Sunset, one of the parts Mason couldn't play well enough, or not enough emotion, whatever, so Waters had another guy do it.

Spinal Pap 11-13-2005 07:46 PM

I've been meaning to pick up The Final Cut but haven't gotten around to it. Is it similar to other Waters era Floyd?
I've been meaning to pick up The Final Cut but haven't gotten around to it. Is it similar to other Waters era Floyd?
Well, I like it. I don't know what you mean by Waters era Floyd, as he was with them for every studio album except for AMLOR and TDB.

Think Vera, Bring the boys back home, and Nobody Home.
Think Vera, Bring the boys back home, and Nobody Home.
Aside from Nobody Home, those are my least favorite songs on The Wall. :/
