alls i have to say is i have a Dean edge 4string, which is more than perfect for a beginner bass, and the corvette i played at a nearby music store was the best bass i ever played since i started playing bass.

whats people's opinion on the ash corevette? i played one in a shop the other day and loved it. i'm just wondering what the differences are between the bubinga and the ash, accounting for the £200 difference in price. i heard bubinga is better quality wood, does this make the tone £200 better?

I believe the ash corvette's are better than the bubinga ones. They're a lot lighter. The tone is definantly not 200 pounds better. They both have different tones. Bubinga tends to be more dark and has more low end growl than ash does. Ash (to me) is an aggressive wood, but it growls differently to a bubinga corvette. Neither tone is better than the other, it comes down to personal preference. Id go the ash corvette. Better bang for your buck. |

Also i don't think they do a 6 string ash version (not sure tho). The weight can get a bit annoying sometimes but a wide padded strap sorts that out pretty well. |

Yeah. Warwick doesn't offer the Corvette 6 in ash. Shame really, id have one. |
hey guys, i'm finally getting a warwick. i just ordered it a few days ago and its coming in some time next week.
i just want to know more about waxing the body. is there any particular type of wax i need to get? i really need to know. thank you. :thumb: oh, btw, once i get it, can i join the mx warwick club? |
You will get some Warwick Bees Wax with your new bass.
|
You will get some Warwick Bees Wax with your new bass.
Quoted for truth. And that reminds me I need to get some more. And anyone with a Warwick can join the MX Warwick club! |
Warwick Corvette will be my next bass - I swear on this day in front of god. Anyway, I need a new one because my Peavey Milestone III is beginning to show its limitations.
|
Quoted for truth. And that reminds me I need to get some more.
you need to get some more? shet, where can i get some, just in case I run out? one more thing: sorry bout the n00b question but, how do you join the mx warwick club? thanks. |
You have to own a warwick then you you change your user title from War Silva or *MX Warwick Club*. But of course its up to you!
Its just naming rights really :) |
Yeah it's not a really serious thing or anything. As far as buying the wax goes, i'm not 100% sure. If you're in the UK i think GAK or Soundslive will do it. Not sure about the US but I would expect most big online shops to do it and maybe even your local shop depending on how big it is.
Edit: Stringsdirect do it if you're in the UK. If you're in the US then you should be able to get it direct from Warwick/Dana B. Goods. |
One thing to watch out for on these (or any other solid bubinga body bass), is that they are incredibly heavy. Easily the heaviest bass I've ever played. I owned one for a few months and had to buy a wider padded strap to distribute the weight more efficiently. Before buying the new strap, a two hour long practice would kill my shoulder. Just something to be aware of, they are definitely great basses, but the weight is murder.
Another thing to consider if any of you are looking for one of these. Models from 1998 thru present day are much different than the ones available from 1997 and before. Actually, the neck is what's different. The ones that were pre 98 had an all wenge neck, whereas the ones post 97 have an ovangkol neck with wenge fretboard (on fretted models). The other thing that changed was the neck profile. On the pre 98 models the neck was VERY slim, similar to a Geddy Lee jazz bass or Ibanez Soundgear. The newer models have a MUCH thicker neck, very similar to a P-Bass, but with a slightly deeper profile. Personal preferences will vary, but I much prefer the pre 98 models.
You think Bubinga is heavy? Try a Warwick Thumb BO... Ovankol is freakin' DENSE. But for tone like that, it's worth it. |
^ I think bubinga is heavy IMO.
|
I also think bubinga is heavy.

Have any of you guys tried the Warwick Buzzard?
|
Ive held one, and play it briefly unamped. Man was that thing big.
Typical warwick neck, just with a massive body. |

I take it you like the low B on the 'vette. I find mine to be very tight. |
Warwick - Corvette Standard
Overall 9.2/10 - It's one of the best basses out there yet I personally like the Fender Jazz Bass Fretless better for it's tone and strength.
Factory set-up 9/10 - Mine was shipped from Germany to Ventura (CA), Los Angeles (CA), Jacksonville (Fl), Deerfield Beach (FL), Boca Raton (FL), Miami Airport, Caracas (Venezuela). It was packed in a gigbag (which by the way is one of the best out there) "Thanks RockBag!" and it was perfectly in tune. The bridge was harmonized just the way I like it. I checked for scratches or dents and none were seen. The best thing i found about it is the exceptional tuning gears, i could tune to exactly 441 Hz if i wanted to with it. Playability 10/10 - I had never heard or played a Warwick except for a RockBass Corvette, i loved the tone so i asked myself "If this bass makes people cry it would be overkill to own an original one. And it is Nuff' Said. The bass is extremely slap friendly even though you can barely hear the G String while double thumping it, The neck is very thick and very heavy (so is the bass itself) I haven't seen a better constructed bass like this one. Electronics 8/10 - The bridge/neck pickups could have been better such as individual mastering and they could have made them double coiled instead of single coiled. I wouldn't mind changing the pickups because that's what the warwick tone is designed for. it's like putting ferrari wheels on an old chevette. (not that ferrari wheels exist) Tone 10/10 - I love it! The slap sound anywhere on the fretboard is extremely good except 15.ish - 24.ish. The growly tone really was a surprise. Hardware 8/10 -Everything is awesome except for the single pickup coiling and that one of the pickup screws gets loose once in a while. Others 7/10 - Don't EVER overwax it or you'll spend days with wax on your hands which consequently damage the strings. Don't EVER wax it near the pickups because it dulls the tone by damping the wiring. Sorry for spelling. And i'll put pics up soon, whenever a digital cam and my bass meet. |
My new Warwick Corvette 6 string bubinga is sitting at my dads house in Melbourne, ready for me to come and collect it. It's second hand but it didn't come with wax, and it looks as though (dad told me) it has a few little blemishes on the wood that might come good with some waxing. But nevertheless, I have a Warwick 6 String Corvette.

just got a new 'vette 2 weeks ago
having the time of my life with it :D (active 4 string) |
Others: Be aware that these instruments need to be waxed at least every two or three days during the first couple months you have them, and then once every two weeks or so afterwards. But for that wood, it's worth it. Also, my Corvette has a very distinctive figure to it that most bubinga does not. Just warning you guys, don't order one expecting it to come in like that^.
I've found that the lemon spray in an aerosaul can that's meant to shine wooden furniture is a great substitution for the wax. You might think i'm crazy for trying it, but i sprayed and polished a spot on the back of the body first to see if it would work, then i did the whole bass. The end result is stunning. My bass has a luster that it has never had before. And on the plus side, if you are still young with me and live with your parents, there is a high chance you already have this stuff in your linen closet or under your sink, and you don't have to go out and buy it. Check it out my fellow warwick owners. |
I just bought one on monday, and I can say that I have NO buyers remorse whatsoever. Sounds beautiful, plays beautiful, and looks beautiful. The rest of my band it drooling over it.
One question for all the Warwick owners, should I seriously be waxing it that often? |
I...haven't waxed my bass in months. Looks fine.
|
i didnt wax my thumb for a couple of months, and i noticed that the neck felt dry as hell, and it all felt wrong - been waxing it everyday or so now, and it plays so much better, not sure why though. It just feels better, looks better too :thumb:
|
I pick up my 5 string Hot Rod tomorrow morning!!
So damn excited!! |
Mabye I should invest in some wax and the likes.
|
If you sweat at all while you play it, waxing is a necessity. If you plant your thumb somewhere (pickup, side of neck, wherever), then you definitely have to wax there, or the wood will start to fade to a grey-brown color. It's easily back to normal with some heavy waxing, but it fades back much easier than it came in the first time.

I don't think you need to wax the neck, the oils from your hands are sufficient. Unless you have very dry skin. |

i have very dry skin (you really should see my hands, when they get bad, they are possibly the scummiest things on the face of the earth :thumb: ) |
The US version of the SNES looks all blocky and weird.
