VANILLA MUFFINS - Sugar Oi! C'me On

The song starts with a very happy huh, I suppose it's a guitar effect but sounds like some keyboard or synth trying to imitate a horn. That riff is very cool and then starts the lyrics, good oi style. The song repeats Sugar Oi! C'me On a lot during it and the music is always the same with that riff appearing some times. By the end of the song sometimes becomes always. So yeah, the song is repetitive, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad song. In fact I enjoy it. The catchyness of the refrain is something you can't deny and the same about the riff. The other vocals are very nice too so it's a nice song overall with the bad point that it can be boring after listening to it several times, but I'll give it an 8/10

My recommendations:

Satanic Surfers - Hero of Our Time
The song opens with a really fast short intro section that almost sounds like How To Clean Everything era Propagandhi. The music pauses for a second and it sounds like its going to blast into the first verse but instead the music goes all jolly and ska-like. The vocals kick in and the lyrics are quite funny and simple. There are some really cheesy background vocals that are cool as well. Then there's a short instrumental section with a really nice bassline. It pauses a couple of times making you think its going to go fast again before it actually does. There's more vocals, it is very Propagandhi-esque in parts with one section at the end inparticular reminding me of 'Head, Chest Or Foot' although the lyrics aren't political at all. It repeats a verse a couple of times with the singer repeating the title of the song before it fades out with a little guitar bit. I enjoyed this song. Its got quite an unconventional structure which is pretty cool and the music, vocals and lyrics all fit together really well. 8/10

NY ******s - Just Like Dresden '45

Doo da doo da da dooo, the distortion on the guitar sounds like Templar distortion. This song is fast, and all the way through, it doesn't really slow down. Ahhhh we're gonna crash!!! Punk punk solo for like 30 seconds!! The solo is still going on no wait it stopped, vocals are back. This song is pretty catchy "g-g-g-gimme release!!" I think. Very energetic song, yes very. The Spanish like to say muy instead of very. Muy energetico. Let's see who can I compare this to. Probably some New York punk band back in the 70's or what have you, but I don't listen to many of those early early American punk bands. So figure it out yourself you bastard. 9/10

Maybe I'm just weird, but the music reminds me of a Subhumans song, playing on the upbeats and whatnot the way they do (I'm horrible at describing these things, so I'm sorry). I haven't heard too much Circle Jerks, but this sounds different from their usual songs. Typical Circle Jerks lyrics (which is cool), and the music is a little more complex than their usual 30 second bits. They even snuck a quick guitar solo in there. Very cool, I recommend it to anyone who's new to the Circle Jerks.

Pop punk: offspring-a million miles away

The guitar starts this song off. It kind of sounds like a metallica riff, but more offspring like. After that the bass and drums come in and the guitar plays 4 different chords. Then the guitar palm mutes as Dexter starts singing. The chorus is a typical offspring one. There’s also a solo, pretty simple one, but it passes good to the song. In all a good song. 7,5/10

I don't think this is a live track (despite the fact there are crowd sounds at the start) and the music it begins with a gong (that's right, a gong) before the song really gets going. It starts with a slow section with a nice little riff and some vocals. The vocals are quite cool, strained and spooky, similar to some Godless Wicked Creeps stuff. After about 30 seconds the guys voice signals a change and the song goes up a gear. Or three. It gets fast quick and there's a really cool little solo bit before the vocals kick in. The music is really good as it manages to remain different with loads of cool little fills and mini-solos in the verses. The chorus is the same lyrics as the slow section ad contrasts well and almost sounds pop-punky. There are a couple of verses and choruses before an instrumental section that is pure psychobilly. It's pretty awesome and it even throughs a few Oi!'s in (Oi!-billy, how cool is that?) before some more choruses then another instrumental with a pretty cool solo before the song finishes. I really like this song. Everything about it fits together well. I'll definitely be downloading more Mad Sin. 10/10

I haven't heard a lot from Chuck besides his hits. The song starts off with the basic Chuck riff, but distorited diffewrently. Goes into to a verse with Chuck singing and the basic rock n roll blues type car in the background. The lyrics are telling a story of a troublesome brown eyed handsome man. Back to the beginning riff, with some changes on the end. A sort of mini solo. Now a piano solo with the guitar playing a basic, yet soloisc riff. Then another guitar riff. Back to the verse. The guitar changes slightly I think. Has a really good groove to it, like all rock n roll should. After the verse another riff, similar to the last but diffderent and this fades ou. Pretty good song, but some of his hits are a bit better. 8/10

This starts with some woodwind instrument playing a tune I know but the name of which escapes me. It's one of those incredibly annoying 'Seaside-Holiday-Camp-Everyone-Get-Up-And-Do-The-Actions' songs. This continues for a while with some drums and handclaps coming in intermittently. At about 0:400 the music changes to some more music that sounds familiar with some horns and drunken-sounding singing. The horns are pretty cool. Then it goes back into the intensely annoying section again, this time speeded up, then back to the drunken bit which is again speeded up. This song just repeats the these two sections over and over speeding up each time until the end. This song was pretty bad. The horns were pretty cool but really it was nothing but a novelty song. 4/10

****, first off, these guys are really good, if you like against me, or TBiaPB i would highly recomend these guys, i had my doubts but its really really good stuff

the song starts off imediatly with a pounding beat, then violin and vocals come in, the singer seems kind of jittery, like someone was doing the king kong chest beat while he was singing kind of, the chorus is cool, theres not much to say about this song except that its truely amazing

now, when downloading/purchasing this song/album, or ever contemplating buying it, throw away ANY assumtions of them that you might have, as with any band, but dont let stupid things like 'i dont like folk-punk/anarcho music'

these guys are truely amazing and the only way to understand me is to get one of their songs

This song starts out with a really nifty little guitar intro before the drums kick in and the song starts to speed up. The song stays the same for the most part except for a little breakdown part near the end.The song is very sing along-able, although since they don't really produce very well, it's sometimes hard to pick out the lyrics. It's a strong Folk/Punk song (My favorite genre) done by one of the best bands in the genre. It's basically like a sped up version of A Johnny Cash song with higher vocals. Very good tune here.

I have this album, but I always skipped over this track because I used to totally hate country the last time I listened to this. Now that Ive listened to some ok country such as Cash, I found it enjoyable.
It starts out with a relly cool country style riff that would seem out of a Quentin Tarantino movie, the first verse gives me the sense of a desert night (as ghey as that sounds), and it goes into a good solo about one minute into the song, and the next verse starts. Nick 13 mentions praying to god which I thought was rare for a psychobilly, anyway the same solo goes into it again at about 2:45 into the song and the last verse starts. It ends with another cool solo.
I ended up fu'cking loving this song. A new Tiger Army fav.

Nekromantix-Haunted Cathouse

From the Nekro’s “Return of the Loving Dead” CD; they have a Tiger Army like sound, except a lot more bada'ss. It of course has the vintage rockabilly guitar; witch begins with a nice slow mellow riff. The verse carries the easygoing feel, and goes into a melodic chorus. The lyrics are the traditional horror rock brand. I don’t know what a haunted cathouse is but it sounds awesome. Just when it starts to get repetitive, the drum and stand up bass trail off, leaving just the vocals and guitar. And then out of nowhere it gets fast and relentless, proceeding to pack in some unexpected guitar effects. It’s like a ghost story told with cow punk instrumentals that fades into a little Bad Brains sounding singing and guitar.

Tiger Army - Atomic

The song begins with the drum line that seems to be used at the beginning of about a million other punk/psycho songs. Then comes a guitar riff, and after a few seconds, out of nowhere the vocals come in and everything completely changes key, and that really bothered me. There's also some extra singing during the chorus that annoys me, because there's some sort of vocal effect they added that makes it sound too out of place. However, the lyrics are really cool. They're about roaming the Southern California streets at night, and it has a really cool feel to it. Still, I wouldn't recommend this to someone just trying out Tiger Army. I'd suggest anything from their self-titled album.

It hurts me, but: 5/10

Big D-Myself
Well, last time I tried big D I didn't really like them, but that was a while ago and I figure "Why not?". So here goes. Starts off with a coolish, horn intro, with too loud drums. And bad guitar tone, two things that piss me off. Verse is pretty cool, I like the singers voice and the backing vocals are good. I wish the bass was louder, because you can only really notice it in the breakdown right now after the (chorus?). Back comes the palm muted guitar and same horn line as the whole song. I guess that this is the song. Again, I really like the vocals, but the bad mixing, and repetitive horn lines turn me off this song. The outro type bridge is pretty cool, and then the chorus takes it home. All in all not a terrible song, but not very good at all. 5.5/10 It reminded me of why I don't listen to these guys.

This song starts out with a drawling horn line, followed by a guitar line accompanied shortly by bass and a few scream/grunt like back up vocals. It then brakes into the verse. I really like the bass line in the verse but the guitar and vocals are only alright. Before the chorus comes in the horns go again. I really like the horn parts in this song, I only wish there were more horns. The song does another verse/chorus then a slow bridge with some cool slow horn lines and some very raspy vocals. Then right back to the chorus. After the chorus is the outro with some more cool drawling horns and guitars. Overall this song is good. I'm not too big on the vocals and I wish there were more horns but overall a good song. I will try to find more by these guys.

Gatsby's American Dream - Cut the Strings
This is a pretty powerful melodic pop-punk type deal, which starts out with a sort of ambient guitar riff, and the song gradually builds and builds, and at about 3:00 ish it peaks, and comes back down rather quickly. I think this was a good song, and with a little more work they could've added a lot more and built the song up to something even more climactic, and it wouldn't have gotten boring despite being so long. The singing is pretty poppy, and the singer gets mad props for having talent that we don't see much of in this genre. The lyrics are kind of abstract, but really well written anyway.

I really didnt know what to think of this song. Im still not sure if it was a joke or if it was serious. I got some other songs to see if they were any better, but most of them were even more ridiculous. Judging the titles of other songs, Im guessing they're a "funny band", but this song was just goofy. The vocals somewhat resembled Tiny Tim.... There was kinda a neat sounding guitar effect thing, but it just added more to the child-like sound of the song. I guess the song was a bit catchy, but not really in a good way. I'll give it a 3/10, ween is a pretty cool name and the song was easy to listen to, but it was just silly.

Slow intro with echoing guitar. A little creepy but sounds ok. Theres the drums. Its startin to sound a bit better. Bass is a little plain jane just following along but its good. Ah.. Theres the punk in it. Sounds pretty good but kinda unoriginal. Moving on.. repeats alot, i guess that what makes it 5 minutes! Little solo in there sounds interesting but coulda been better. Just under a minute and a half this song is to the point, but repitive. After a brief opening with a flurry of drums, it gets funky, and the grizzled vocals come in, the guitar is somewhat boring, leaving the drums and bass to carry this song. Interesting lyrics, kind of beating a dead horse, but its not over the top. Good rifts, poorly composed, its short however... 6.5/10

There's a short blast of staccato guitar before the music kicks in fully. Its sounds like typical Epitaph/Fat Wreck punk but there's a pretty cool little solo as well. The vocals kick in and the music fades out except for the drums and kicking in after every line. The guy's voice is pretty standard. The music kicks back iin and the chorus has some OOOOHHHOOOOHHs in the background. The lyrics are okay. This song continues in the same vein. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse. This song is okay but it's not stand-out. I like dthe guitar in parts but overall it was just too standard. 5/10

This is a pretty laid-back reggae song. It begins and maintains with an acoustic ska guitar riff and a nice soothing bass line. It keeps a slow tempo throughout, without speeding up or adding distortion or anything of that matter. The verses don’t sound too different in comparison to the chorus. The vocals sound somewhat reminiscent to Brad Nowells. There’s really nothing much more to be said about it. It’s a simple song, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

When someone has posted a review, you call dibs. You have 2 hours with your dibs. If you fail to meet this 2 hours, or you know you aren't going to be able to make the the dibs, DELETE YOUR DIBS POST. If you use your 2 hours wisely, then write your review. You must pick a song that you have no heard before. Your review must be decent, now 3-5 liner crappy things. Once you do your reivew, recommend some more songs. If you think the songs will be hard to find, offer a link or a way for the person to get it from you (soulseek, gmail, aim, etc.) After you have finished and posted your review, go back and delete your dibs post. This keeps the thread clean and makes the Who's Posted list more accurate as to how many reviews are.

DO NOT MAKE OFF TOPIC POSTS. It is easier on myself and the mods that you do not make posts that aren't reviews, because they will be getting deleted anyway.

Be sure to to check out the Reviewed list: http://www.musicgypsy.com/misc/flsongs.htm

That is all, enjoy your Forced Listening.

Social Distortion/ Highway 101 (Alt. Rock)

This is an ok social d song but doesnt compare to there older stuff. It is a good slow rock song. It starts out with just the drums and then starts with a distored harmonic sounding guitar then begins. not a very good intro for a slow rock song. I just don really like this song i would rate it

aus rotten- secret police secret army

This song is typical Aus-Rotten. For those that are unaware, this means driving guitar and drums, screamed vocals, and political content. However, this song is pretty weak compared to most of the tracks on their great debut album "The System Works for Them." Poor production and the vocals are not nearly as polished as on other songs. I would recommend this song to Aus-Rotten completists only. For an introduction to the band, check out their 1st LP.

This is quite possibly the bounciest song I have ever heard. Bouncing guitar, drums, bass, I think I heard a xylophone?? It starts with a very cheery guitar melody and feminine male vocals. Then the bounce comes in and doesn’t really let up until the chorus, which was a welcome change. I admit I kind of liked the chorus, but it’s only really great in comparison. At parts it breaks down to just muffled bass and drums, and then ends with this. I found it virtually impossible to rock out too. Id really only appreciate it as background music during a movie featuring some sort of romantic montage. 4/10

Nekromantix-I'm A Hell Cat
this is a good song, theres a like a two note guitar intro to the song, then everthing else comes in. the vocals start, and theres a guitar break, with just the bass and the drums (lots of tom action) playing. this happens at the begininng of every new verse. the chorus is cool, theres a lot of "hey hey heys" in there, then after a few verse-chorus alternations it shifts and then theres a cool higher pitched guitar solo deal at about 2:00 min then it goes to another chorus round. overall a cool song

Crass - White Punks on Hope

I chose this song because I know it makes fun of The Clash and oddly enough Crass and Clash are defiently my favorite Punk bands. The song starts with Steve Ignorant trashing talking The Clash. "They said that we we're trash, well the name's Crass not Clash". After that the drums kick in and the real song begins. Now I do like this song but I've heard better from Crass. The song slows down somewhat and the intro is over. The song is about punX and how its dying. There is a little instrumental part in the song that makes it alot better. If not for that I would probly skip the song whenever I listen to the album, or just listen to the intro. The song ends with a nice little drum roll. 6/10 I enjoyed it and listen to it whenever I put in the record.

Billy Bragg- Waiting For The Great Leap Fowards

I've never listened to Billy Bragg, even though I've heard a lot of good things.

How could I have missed out on such awesome music?

OK, so it starts with a very nice acoustic guitar progression, followed by a classic piano sound. The piano stops shortly and Bragg starts singing. The piano comes in between verses. Afer a while, a drum is heard; hitting the high-hat and rim. Then a bass and heavier guitar. After another chorus backround vocals sing-a-long "waiting for the great leap foward." I think the backround vocals could be better though, but I really shouldn't complain. The song fades out with these backround vocals but along with some woahs and billy singing, maybe even yelling.

These are incredible lyrics, and I expected no less. It's of singing politics and playing music while waiting for "The Great Leap Foward." Here's a sample of my favorite part as of the moment:

Mixing Pop and Politics he asks me what the use is
I offer him embarrassment and my usual excuses
While looking down the corridor
Out to where the van is waiting
I'm looking for the Great Leap Forwards

However, at the beginning, he sings of sad stories across the world. Some of which I don't understand because I'm an uneducated idiot. But from what I do understand, they're very good. Here's another favorite line: "Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying Over luxury's disappointment."

8.5/10, but I'm sure I'll like it more and more as the time goes by.

Defiance, Ohio- Response To Griot

Sounds pretty good, though it's not really my style. It's the first time I've heard of this band.

Well it starts with bam-bababa-bam bam-bababa-bam bam-bababababa-bam (very clear) on the snare drum and on the violin and on the acoustic guitar. This sounds good because of the two singers who yell something on the same rhytm --> (to the drifters! in hopes that our paths cross again. to the homesick! home is when we do meet again.)
After they've done this twice there's a acoustic guitar playing very cheery music with a few crashes of the drums and then there's a heavy bass-sound. And then the two singers sing again (our histories, our futures, our foundations, are hope. it's a way to never forget. I'll say goodbye. and hope to never mean it. our love and our hope. no nation or state can contain it.) And the violin also plays again, still with the guitar, drums and the bass.
After this the singing and after a while also the music stops. Then on a few dead notes of the guitar, and short violin notes the singers sing/speak: "if you call me up drunk, at four in the morning, no matter the timezones or state lines away. i'll be on buslines or burning up phone cards. just like i lived eight blocks away."
Then again the second part of the song.

I like the song, but I think if I hear it more often I'll get very bored of it, so I give it a 7/10.

MDC - John Wayne was a nazi

this song was pretty good i think.

the lyrics are generally about john wayne killing indians and how he was a nazi and stuff. the lyrics were pretty good and the singer was easy to understand.

the music was the best part of this song. the beging starts off with this short intro on the guitar that is pretty cool. the beging isnt very fast but after the first verse it starts to speed up and eventually ends up pretty fast. it was hard to listen to this song with out moving to the beat.

overall i would give this song a 7/10

Recomendations:

Donkey Punch!- Oops My Bad

Nice drums for the intro. Trumpet very demanding as well. Very catchy. Along with the guitar. Oh s'hit gay vocals. Thats not very good but I can tell this a joke song. Oops my bad huh? Well it goes on to have s'hitty vocals about some guy being a dumbass to his girlfriend saying oops my bad. I wouldnt suggest checking it out unless you like blink 182 and say lol. I give this song a 5/10 only because of the good trumpet. It would have a way higher rating if the guy singing wasnt such a huge dousche. Also because it talks about STD's and thats the only funny part. The rest is just lol business. Sorry about the crappy review but theres not much to be said about this song.

Pennywise- You'll Never Make It

This is a great song coming from pennywise definently one of there better songs. It starts with just the bass and drums the bass is playing a cool line and the drums are playing a really fast beat. Then the guitar starts and the song begins. as being a bass player this song has some cool bass. Overal This was a pretty good song i rate it a 9/10

Operation Ivy-The Crowd

This is by far the greatest and best Op Ivy song ever recorded. As soon as you here that lone energetic drumbeat build up, you know you’re in for a treat. Soon the guitar and bass line come in with the driving drums. The bass has the nice turned up and sloppy operation ivy trademark sound. The vocals are sung very well with fitting moderately angry lyrics. The chorus is composed of “oooooh, just another crowd”, repeated. It ends with a subtle solo and a refrain of the chorus. We need a gathering instead. Freaking awesome song, listen to it. 9/10

The Independents - God Called in Sick Today

This cover really does AFI no justice, but I won't be a douche about it.

The music is pretty good, it doesn't stick entirely to the original but if they sounded exactly like it, it would make the cover pointless, right? I also noticed they added a synthesizer, which is a cool and original touch. My main problem with this was the singing. It sounds like it would be great for other music, but it doesn't fit this particular song, because he doesn't have a vocal range even comparable to Davey Havok's. In the chorus they used the background singing from the original version, which I think helped the song. Great job with the music, but the singing really takes away from it. Still, if they're that influenced by AFI then their own music has to be worth a try, so I plan to hear more. They're even playing here soon, so I'll probably go to that.

5.5/10

Jello and Nomeansno

Starts out with a good riff and te cymbals crashing. Then the vox start. The actual lyrics have a similar style to DK in which there's some kind of conspiracy type of thing. Then a little less than half way a good lick starts and Jello sings. Then it ends the same way it began, only with Jello singing. I thought it was pretty good. Ill definately check out some more stuff.

Pressure Point - Cut Throat

Starts with a little guitar work over a ska bassline and standard guitar background (upstroke, rake, upstroke, rake). Lots of reverb (some delay maybe?) on the guitar. Vocals start. Guitar solo type thing stops. Cool vocals, not very skaish though. Gets to the chorus, and some Jamacin sounding guy says some stuff. Then it goes back to the guitar solo type thing with lots of reverb. Vocals start as guitar stops again. Jamacin guy again. Guitar, etc. It basically repeats a lot.
