Yeah, I would have went to the Shepherd's Bush show (where they filmed the DVD) but I had just got back from holidaying last year and didn't know about it.
And the DVD has just made me want to see them even more. :upset: |
I love Opeth, although I only own Deliverence and ****ation.
|
Actually, I just looked on Blabbermouth.net:
''Sweden's OPETH are officially free agents as a result of having been dropped by BMG/Zomba after their previous label, Music For Nations, was folded into parent company Zomba Records Group (the world's largest independent music group). The band are looking through new offers at the moment.'' That was Friday's news. I wonder who will sign them. I'd say Century Media are probably favourites, but maybe Nuclear Blast could get them. I just hope they sort out a deal soon.
They should go to Metal Blade. They aren't a bad label at all. |
Metal Blade aren't bad, not at all, but century media will give opeth more creative freedom than metalblade who are under the stronghold of the RIAA, and although metal blade pretty much does let their bands do what they want, they may try to shape opeth into something more mareketable because someone higher up said they must.
|
Yes. I don't know whats going to happen, hopefully it will be a wise decision. I don't think they want them to sound different, that's the money maker. Being original. New Album is so far away :upset: I just deleted over 4000 songs from my WMP im pissed! Stupid Spybot...Now...to get them back...
|
It really does depend heavily on the label they are on. Century Media delt with opeth in the past, and im sure would be very glad to pick them up again. Nuclear blast is okay, but they really wouldn't fit on that label very well. They really couldn't do anything smaller than those two though, it just wouldn't work.
|
Yes I agree, But I don't see them going to Nuclear Blast, I can Definately see them going to Century Media though. Great Label :thumb:
|
I edited the title, for those who wondered.
|
The title for what?
|
What title did you edit? I didn't like the name of this thread anyways when I made it...I wasn't thinking...Blonde moment.
|
Blonde moment? Don't tell me that's you in your avatar! :p
|
Unfortunately, yes. I have 2 Pictures of Myself on my CPU, this one and the one on my Profile from my 1996 Graduation in Phoenix.
|
which opeth album shall i add to my bday list? people talk highly
|
Flynn: :amaze: You serious? I kinda expected you to be a . . . . guy, I guess. Don't see many Opeth-loving girls round here at all.
fukkus: Get Blackwater Park if you haven't heard them before, or Morningrise if so. |
Orchid[UK]
Morningrise My Arms, Your Hearse Still Life This music grows on you like vines. I wasn't that impressed when I first heard Opeth, but I couldn't get it out of my head! IMO they rule the music scene :thumb: Once inside i heard the whispers in the parlour the killing faces grin Aware of my final...demise And I Cried When she had lied Her obsession died It had died When Can I take you from this place? When is a word but a sigh? When is death our lone beholder? When do we walk the final steps? When can we scream instead of whisper? When is the new beginning and the end of this sad madrigal...? |
Black Sabbath.....they created the genre, if it weren't for them there would be no opeth, because all the bands that inspired opeth would not exsist in their entity either
How can you even put the 2 in the same sentence? Black Sabbath is good don't get me wrong but, Opeth are from Sweden, plus they sound nothing like Black Sabbath. Their influences were: Katatonia Asphyx Emporer At The Gates Ethnocide Death Metal. |
Katatonia are a great band, I've just been getting into them. Very mellow.
|
Viva... is a good LP. Lets play Lyrical Pursuit!
What song is this from? And what band? I have gone away. The bed is cold and empty. Trees bend their boughs toward the earth. And nighttime birds float as black faces. It was the hand reaching out through the mirror. |
I love opeth. I have no albums but 'To bid you farewell' is simply the most beautiful song i have ever heard.
Blck rose immortal hasn't grown on me yet but im sure it will... |
Definately. That's my fav Opeth song. Black Rose Immortal.
|
So flynn what album do you reccomend me for a first opeth album?
|
My Arms, Your Hearse. It's got everything you need to start out your Opeth Journey. IMO that is. Credence is very Soft and eerie, and April Ethereal has great Double Kick. Karma has a good interlude and When is the best song on that LP making the Story complete.
|
I'd say Blackwater Park ..but thats jst my oppinion
|
ya i would blackwater park one of my fav opeth albums there simply an awesome band
|
Blackwater Park is a great recording. Bleak is one of my top 5 Opeth songs dude to it's complexity. When the bass comes in at around 7 minutes or so it give's me Shivers. I wished they would have played Bleak live. Come to think of it, I think Bleak and Black Rose Immortal have never been played live...I wonder why?
Run away, run away. Just one second, and I was left with nothing. Her fragrance still pulsating through damp air. That day came to an end. And she had lost in me, her Credence |
I hear that they are getting the old Drummer back...Anyone hear that?
|
What happened to Lopez then?
|
I don't know. I hear they are getting their old drummer from the Orchid/Mornigrise era. You hear that too?
|
I hear that they are getting the old Drummer back...Anyone hear that?
Nope, where did you hear that? By teh way, is that you in your avatar? |
I did not hear that at all. And although their first drummer was good, he is no Lopez, that guy is a brilliant drummer. I would be very interested to see where he goes if he is no longer in Opeth.
|
To answer your question yes. I have had a lot of commotion about it. People seem to hate me :upset: A friend told me that their old drummer, God forgive me I can't remember his name, wait, Anders Nordin. yes. He is coming back with Opeth. I can't wait for New Album!!!! YIPPIE! :thumb:
It was me, peering through the looking-glass. Beyond the embrace of Christ. Like the secret face within the tapestry. Like a bird of prey over the crest. And she was swathed in sorrow, as if born within its mask. Her candlelight snuffed, the icon smiled. Emptiness followed by her wake. I could clasp her in undying love. Within ghostlike rapture the final word was mine. She faced me in awe. ´twas a token of ebony colour. |
The mad riffs in The Leper Affinity have been stuck in my head ever since I bought Blackwater Park a couple days ago. I can't get over how awesome it is. Right now it's my favorite song from the album, by far.
|
Black Rose Immortal has been stuck in my head for months now...It's just one of those things.

I believe the move to get the new drummer is to replace Lopez until he recovers...remember, they had to cancel gigs in South America and (I believe) the Israel/Jordan gigs because of his mental health. I'm sure its just a fill in until he regains his mental health...I think Lopez is a very talented musician probably the 2nd most underrated (I believe Peter doesn't get the credit he deserves) in the band.
To me, the best album to start with is Blackwater Park (that's what I started with) Breaks you in great with The Drapery Falls and Harvest (especially Harvest). The way I see it, its their masterpiece...a perfect album, flawless. The others are phenominal, but Blackwater stands out as their pinnacle. By the way, does anyone else think Steven Wilson should stop producing their albums? As much as I love the guy and his music and what he did for the band...I think they should get someone else (hopefully Swano again) that can take them in a new direction. Anyone agree? |

Dan Swanö doesnt produce any bands hes not in anymore, he doesn't have the time for it. he just works in a guitar shop all day listening to journey pretty much.

Thanks...though Swano could come out of retirement. Since Opeth's label went under (about time, the assholes didn't allow him to sing on Crimson II, in my opinion, when Mike screams God in Crimson I, the best scream ever!) he can now collaborate with Mike. The thing that bothers me is that, this is especially evident in the DVD, that, since Mike is SUCH a huge fan of PT, that any idea that Steven has, Mike just says "okay" to...this can hinder what Mike is truly capable of. No knocks to Steven, I love his backround vocals on the soft part of "Master's Apprentice", but they need another creative force to push Opeth to another level in regards to their music. BTW, is that really you in the avatar, if so...you are incredibly hot! :thumb: |
Holy shlt! I love you! ;) Isn't Opeth too deep to forget? Seriously. I want To Bid You Farewell to be played at my funeral. I love opeth because of Morningrise! I bought Orchid like 2 years ago at a place called Dreams in Ames Iowa. When I first listened to it I was like "WtF is this Garbage!?!?" But...in the amazing turn of events, It grew on me, grew on me like Vines! I can't explain it. I really don't want to bore you with my thoughts about Opeth. I think people are sick of me talking about them
BTW, yes that's my Senoir Pic from 1996. Thank you for the compliment! It is a mere destiny I thought, a threshold I had crossed before. The rain was waving goodbye, and when the night came the forest folded its branches around me. Something passed by, and I went into a dream. She laughing and weeping at once: "take me away". I don't know how or why, I´ll never know When. - April Ethereal |

 - April Ethereal
I agree...To Bid You Farewell is probably the best soft song they have ever done (i'm trying to learn how to play it on my bass, but its gonna take me a while) I love the line "I stand motionless in the parade of falling rain" MAN! That is good writing! :) I had the same reaction, I was like "WTF is this ****?" when my friend convinced me to buy Blackwater Park like 3 years ago. I was driving home from work and I listened to Bleak and just went "HOLY ****"...I was in love. One thing I love about them is that they are a perfect blend of death metal and prog rock...hard and soft. I can't quite explain what their songs mean to me, any fan can say the same thing. They have just beautiful music, to hard to explain. My all time favorite Opeth song is still "The Drapery Falls"...god, I just can't fathom the beauty of that song...amazing amazing amazing. I also like thier instrumentals...the best, IMO is Patterns in the Ivy and Silhouette. But especially Patterns, pure beauty. |
Yes I love To Bid You Farewell. You play bass huh? That is a hard song to play Bass wise. It isn't power chord bs ya know? On the opening verse the bass goes even with the guitar then the next verse it goes a couple frets below. **** I can't explain this on the keyboard. I play Guitar for 11 year, I know what you are thinking. Yes Bleak is a Beautiful song, especially when the bass comes in after the trebbel picking solo around 6:40. Actually it is Exactly 6:40. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
The best Porcupine Tree song is Heartattack In A Layby. I like Trains also. Good song. You ever heard of Anathema? They are one of my favorite bands. Definately in my Top 5. |
