My fav solo is probably in the unforgiven. Or possible the end one of "one"

@Superpeer, I have that video - its great! Well worth the d/l on this 56k modem
A friend of mine put the song on in class for some English assignment and everyone was laughing and calling it the neverending song, gah, blasphemy
Anyone who even thinks of saying a bad word about "One" has some serious problems! Its like one of the best songs ever IMO!

JillyBo 11-18-2003 02:05 PM

Who are you to warn me?

I agree with you on that one. I, personaly, think One is one of the most perfectly composed pieces of music I have ever heard.

I second that, but imo sanitarium is more "perfect" in my opinion. The little bits of solos come in EXACTLY at the right moment, and the actual verse is so simple (like one) but then again, so perfect. Also, when it goes all heavy, before the chorus, its perfect, and i love hearing hetfield scream "Dammit, we will win!!." I feel like that was the best time to come in.

Kaden 11-18-2003 02:22 PM

The only Metallica songs I've ever heard are, in this order:

Enter Sandman
St. Anger

I've been thinking about getting Master of Puppets.

Killa_Bee 11-18-2003 02:23 PM

Get it! Its excellent! Simple as that

RockerGav 11-18-2003 02:24 PM

Personally, I don't like One all that much myself.

The intro is beautiful, perfect, but the rest of the song lacks something for me. I couldn't have said it better about Sanitarium, the lyrics are so good.

And IMO Orion is one hell of a composition.

Ramsey 11-18-2003 02:24 PM

HAHHA^ Are you serious? Wow kaden. I have to admit, your missing out. They really do have some good songs. I'll suggest a few greats:

Sanitarium
Nothing else Matters
Master Of puppets
Ride The Lightning
One
Fade to black
Seek and Destroy

That should get you started.:thumb: dled them :thumb:

Realy you think Sanitarium is better? I havn't listened to it in a while, I'll have to go back and hear it again.

RockerGav 11-18-2003 02:30 PM

hmmmm I wonder who introduced him to that? :p

Nah, its my favourite Metallica song by a long shot.

Ramsey 11-18-2003 02:30 PM

Well, i think that metallica spent alot of time on the song...imo...one is good...my only beef about sanitarium in that the MAIN solo is sorta sloppy. It feels like the whole song was very well impelmented but the solo didn't do it for me like one. I guess thats why one is so popular. Ones solo is very nice. lol. But imo sanitarium as a whole blows one away.

I see now I will have to go back and hear it again.

Killa_Bee 11-18-2003 02:37 PM

Sanitarium is a great song definantly! I hope they play it live in Earls Court on the 19th Dec :D! Also, Ride the Lightening is probably my favourite album, what with Creeping Death and For Whom The Bell tolls! Then is a tie between MOP and the Black Album

iliketoplaydrums10111 11-18-2003 02:41 PM

j/k

we all gonna die! 11-18-2003 03:03 PM

james hetfield wears womens trousers
metallica rule!

BrownSugar 11-18-2003 03:07 PM

I wear womens trousers. For the same reason James does as well: you can't find stretch back jeans anymore.

Ride The Lightning is probably my favourite album, pretty much for Creeping Death alone. That is one amazing song, and it fucking rules when they play it live.

Well, if you consider the lack of BASS on that album then you might be right about it being one of the most perfectly composed pieces of music. And, also the lack of production on percussion made the kick drum a little dense sounding. But, yes one of Metallica's finest songs is One. My personal favorite is Orion. I am going to have a video made of me playing Orion with my band so that when I die, my children or loved ones or whoever will be there can see what I love to do and what made me do what I loved to do. It would be the most undying tribute I could offer the Gods of what I know as music. (Gods: J. Hetfield, C. Burton, K. Hammett, L. Ulrich, J. Newsted.)

filth_fan_666 11-18-2003 03:46 PM

metallica recieved a lot of sh*t for St. Anger but i liked it. yeah the recording quality sucked a** and the lyrics were crap but they stayed true to what they stand for. METAL!!!!!!!

mulletsrule 11-18-2003 04:02 PM

Right I'm letting loose about Metallica now.
This is the last time I'm saying this EVER:
Despite me having a Metallica email address I actually hate Metallica now. St. Anger really sucked monkey nuts and now because of it Metallica are kings of the 'metal' world. Jesus christ, if you're gonna sell out, you can at least make some half decent stuff. There is not one song in St. Anger that I like. Even the albums right before St. Anger such as Garage Inc, S&M, Reload all had a few decent songs in them. The only 2 albums I liked by Metallica are Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning. The reason for Metallica's sell out is unknown, but everything started going wrong when Cliff Died (RIP). Either way, I have lose even more respect for Metallica every time I see one of their videos or merchandise from St. Anger. Why oh why did one of the best bands ever have to go downhill?

Ahhhh, that felt better, this thread was a great idea. To be completely honest I was going to make a thread like this about a week ago, but because I only registered in October I thought everyone would spam me.

iliketoplaydrums10111 11-18-2003 05:53 PM

bump*trying to keep it alive*:p

^^ you basically read my mind, because st. anger almost ruined there reputation, but i dont HATE them that much

Ride's idea my ass. I came up with this idea in the "metallica" thread, and recommended that one be the official.

Mustaine27 11-18-2003 08:59 PM

Ok here's a question, if it hasn't already been asked.....

How far do you reckon Metallica would have gone if they stuck with Dave Mustaine as Lead Guitarist?

I'm not to sure myself, as Kill 'Em All was my fave album and Influenced rather heavily by his songwriting (YES I know it was only 4 songs) plus the early Megadeth stuff was top notch.

Roll up, Roll up
