Stfu you little ****. The Misfits brought nothing new to the punk scene except a slightly darker tone. Instead of talking about rebellion and the topics of great punk rock bands like The Sex Pistols, The Addicts, Clash, and Old Bad Religion music, they talked about blood, zombies, and killing. In my opinion, they shouldn't even be classified as Punk Rock, considering Punk Rock started off as music to get away from the mainstream, talking about rebellion and fighting the system. Not about zombies, blood, and killing people.
Huh. That post made me think... about how it used to be acceptable for music to just be fun. I was always taught to believe that you didn't have to be an angry political activist to play punk. I thought the genre was started as a statement that you didn't need to have a major label or years of schooling in a conservatory to make good music. |
AntiFlagSetsFire is obviously an idiot.
|
can we close this thread, its a waste of space and its not going anywhere...we are even bringing in pop punk kids
example: Oz Rembrant |
I think we've garnered some pretty good conversation in this thread.
|
anyone know the difference between static age and legacy of brutality? besides a few more tracks? or are they completely different recordings?
|
Graves is just a big danzig copy off. He probably is more tanlented than most of these people in this thread thinks but he didn't belong in the misfits, and yes jerry only is sorta on ashole for stubbornly trying to keep the misfits alive, but i like him better than graves. at least he's not a copy off. They still played a pretty dam good show w/ jerry, dez, and marky. I think they should just give it up because theyre not really "the misfits" anymore. Theyre like a whole punk band reunion tour thing. i wish danzig would go back to the misfits :(

Stop. How is Graves copying Danzig? |

...or just change their name to The Black Ramfits. Anyways, I think The Misfits are legenedary for a reason. They had fun with their music. I don't why fans and fiends harsh so much on the big 96' line-up change, the "original" Misfits went through 10 different band line-ups before the called it quits in 83'. Just ask Diane DiPiaza, Jimmy Battle, Manny, Franché Coma, Mr. Jim, Rick Riley, Bobby Steele, Joey Image, Arthur Googy, Todd Swalla, and Brian Damage (all "original" Misfits). Glenn Danzig is not an easy man to work with. ....I had more to say but I just lost it. |

You are quite the fool. Just because they wanted to do somthing different makes them poesers or somthing? You just make yourself sound so stupid... |
In no way did Graves copy Danzig.

You could have done that without making a complete ass of yourself. "RAR! Punk is about sticking it to The Man, not zombies!! GRRROOOOAAOWWWOOAOAOAOAOARRRR!!!" Just shut up before you embarass yourself any further. |
Does anyone else think that Samhain are better than the Misfits?
|
i like them both for the same reasons. Especially because i can dance around and sing all murder, all guts, all fun.
Antiflagsetsfire, you're an arse. Even the most political of the proto-punk bands (The MC5, maybe you've heard of them?) were only about chaning society through "drugs, rock and roll and f'ucking in the streets", to quote their manager. The first band to really bring politics into the whole thing was the Clash, doing their rock against racism thing. Before that, punk was just about kicking it to ****ty prog-rock hippies and having a good time making fast, fun music. All of my songs are about blood, zombies and killing. I write that kind of song because I don't give 3 fu'cks about the government and I'm not going to pretend I do just to conform to your ideas of what's "punk". I like to hear songs about zombies, blood and killing, I like to write songs about zombies, blood and killing and I like to play songs about zombies, blood and killing. So f'uck you very much. |
does anyone else like "The Shining" by the Misfits? It's been stuck in my head for days and the words keep re-arranging themselves.
|
I don't really mean to screw up the flow of the topic, but this is the best place to post it.
What Misfits album should I buy? I have Walk Among Us (And American Psycho, but 1 Graves album is enough for me). |
get the box set. it comes in a coffin. I bought the "Die Die My Darling" 12" single today.
|
If you get the box set, you better have a nice paycheck coming that week. It's a real kick in the nards when you see the price.
|
true. I'm not really an albums cat, which one would you recommend pike?
|
word
--------------------- don't bother reading
I am a huge Misfits fan, they are pretty much my favorite band. And by misfits I mean during the old danzig times. Even though I hate how Only is just using the Misfits name to get himself some more money, but I still go to see him in concert. Its a decent show and they play mostly all of the old greats and a few of the decent new songs. As well as some black flag, *and Ramones when I saw them, while Marky was the drummer* Danzigs solo stuff isnt that good, hes only made like 3 good songs off like what 5 albums? But I am still going to see him in concert in October when hes with Doyle for a Misfits set at MSG. -------------------------------------------------- Bull**** all of the above don't bother reading. Anyways, this is to the maker of this topic, forget static age even though you probably bought it already. Go get walk amoung us, it is there best cd by far. Static age is good, it does have Last Caress. 1. Walk Amoung Us 2. Legacy of Brutatality * dont bother getting if you have static age, its pretty much the same album with a few differnt tracks, Where Eagles Dare, who killed Marilyn. 3. Earth A.D. if your into metal get it 4. Static Age- Its a cd with mostly great singles. 5. Evilive- a live cd that is pretty much hilarious. |
Hmmm, I couldn't pick a favourite...
true. I'm not really an albums cat, which one would you recommend pike?
My three favorites woudl have to be Walk Among Us, Static Age, and American Psycho, in no particular order. Harper Only: Danzig's doing a gig with Doyle? I'm really pissed now that I won't get to see that. I have to ask though, does this mean Doyle's going to be getting back into performing soon? As I said earlier, I believe he went on hiatus because he and his wife had their first child so he wanted to spend time with his family. |
I think he's in his late 40's. I read somewhere that when he made his first recording with the band, he was like 17 or 18. Wouldn't be too much of a stretch. When the Misfits started out, they were a bunch of young guys who could barely play their instruments at all.
|
Small wonder he based his stagename after Boris Karloff's most famous role.
Reminds me a little of that one Punks & Nerds comic. BRAD: Jesus, dude! What are you, like a million feet tall? BRUCEMAN: A million feet tall of AWESOOOMMMMEEE!! |
Doyle is huge. What a beastly, yet sexy fellow.
|
Found the comic I was thinking of.
Doyle also makes a really cool zombie, as per the Scream! music video. |
The Scream! music video was awesome.
|
Hahaha, that comic is hilarious.

im not saying he is but i think thats how jerry only kind of wanted him to be. im sure graves has better solo material and what not he just didnt belong in the misfits neither any of the lineup. But i think the newest line up (jerry, dez, robo) is a better lineup then graves and dr. chud. All in all, Danzig should be the only one being frontman in the misfits |

The only similarity I can see is the classic rock influences, and the ease of which they both can switch from clean and dirty vocals. |
