Can I tell you something? Even if you post in this thread to diss it, you're still posting in it. Thus, it will stay at the top of the forum, people will continue to see it, and therefore people will continue to post in it.
Just let it die a quiet death. It's the only way.
 i made this thread like a month ago! :D |
Red hot chili peppers = good music
|
Basically, for every person that says they're funk there will be a person that says that they aren't funk, so...
They are just good musicians who cut their teeth on funk by the master of funk,George Clinton. I'd say they are a rock band with elements of funk just due to their approach being more guitar and volume driven.Funk is more bass and drum driven with a deep pocket and that really isnt the case with The RHCP's.
You do realize that the first four albums are completely bass driven, right? |
You do realize that the first four albums are completely bass driven, right?
....so are all of Cachaito's albums. And Sly and Robbies albums........but that doesn't make them funk. Doh! Just bumped this dog of a thread back to the top.......sorry! |
styles:
flea= punk rock and funk hillel slovak = classic rock and funk john f = funk rock punk elcectronic (eg. devo) chad smith = rock
actually, chad smith is more of a jazz drummer. You don't notice him until you watch him live. Live at slane made me appreciate the whole band 100x more, great musicianship, and amazing jams. |

Doh! Just bumped this dog of a thread back to the top.......sorry!
Hmm... I searched my post for the part where I said that they were funk because they were bass driven but, I couldn't find it. |
Nah, these guys are "funk" like Primus is "funk". They have funk elements, but other than that they are a rock band.

STOP POSTING IN THIS THREAD. LET IT DIE. |
Sorry i have to post because....What??First off, I am i huge fan of the chili peppers and they are my favorite band by far. I dont understand how you can say they are pop-punk. I understand that there songs on by the way aren't like any of their previous albums in any way really but they are what I would call alternative rock, not pop-punk.
The thing is that you could probably give every single chilis album a different genre classification. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE SUCH A FUUKIN GREAT BAND. They have such a wide range of song styles and each end of the spectrum is fukin amazing. From the song Tear on By the Way to Blood Sugar Sex Magic to Power of Equality on Blood Sugar to frekin Brother's Cup on Freaky Styley they are all great song. As said before: long live the chilis |
let this thread die its old
I dont understand how you can say they are pop-punk.
That's BS, we're saying they're pop rock. There's a difference. Someone get this thread locked, please. |
Why do you guys scream for threads to be locked? I hate it when someone decides that all possible opinions have been offered up.
Tired of the thread? Don't open it anymore! Simple really. With that said, I would just add that Flea is in no danger of ever contacting sickle cell anemia. The boy just ain't all that funky. |
This is something I have always wanted to know, i love the red hot chili peppers but i don't know what genre they fall under, people say Funk, thus the reason im posting here others say Alt/Inde some Rock, Modern Rock Pop Punk. How do they fall under and what do they fall under?
This was probably said a lot, but as a hardcore peppers fan, I have to reply. When they first started out, they were a kind of hardcore funk style, for example, in Uplift Mofo Party Plan or The Red Hot Chili Peppers. In the late 80's they got a kind of punky sound into the mix, mostly in Mother's Milk. After Hillel's death, Kiedis went into a tail spin and started writing heavy lyrics. They were also going through a lot of guitarists until they found their current one, John Fruciante. When Kurt Cobain killed himself, or a while after, they released One Hot Minute, which is a very slow album with a few tribute songs in it, one obviously about Cobain. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was their last truely funky album, though it was slower funk and sometimes melancholy, and that's when the Chili Peppers died for me. Californication had a few nice tracks, but not near the same level of genius as their early albums. By The Way was the worst album ever released, in relation to how they were. I blame Hillel's death, it bummed them all out way too much. In my opinion though, their best album was Out In L.A. |
Bump.
