overall, theyre a good band imo
Do you all honestly think their going to replace Adam with a Drum Machine, and Jade is going to trade in his guitar for a laptop?
it would have to be one fancy laptop. :p |
Industrial doesn't necessarily replace the guitarists and drummers, it usually just incorporates a synth and more digital sounding effects. In some issue of Revolver, Davey said the new album would have more of an industrial sound. BTW, what do you guys think about Davey's new clothing line, Glitterboy?

OMG BUT TAHT mEANS IT IS tECHNo !!! |
What does everybody think of AFI? personally i think they're best thing thats happened to punk (if you would call them punk now) Davey's vocals mixed with the bands riffs and beats is just musical bliss.. what do you guys think?
They WERE a really good punk band. Don't really know what the hell happened. Maybe Davey found Satan. I've got Answer That And Stay Fashionable. It's a ****ing great album. Cerial Wars is probaly my favorite songs. File 13 off of Very Proud Of Ya was one of the songs that really got me in to punk. |
Answer that and stay fashionable is an outstanding album. Cereal Wars, I wanna be a high school football hero, I want a Mohawk, Brownie Bottom Sundae, are all outstanding songs.
|
Glitterboy eh?
Glitterboy... Their musicianship is superb. I prefer their old stuff to the new. StS was good, it just got really boring after awhile. |
I have the vinyl version of Answer that.... and i really like the track Key Lime Pie... But i'd have to say that Cereal Wars, Brownie Bottom Sundae. The Checkered Demon and Yurf Rendenmein are probably the best songs of the album. As for File 13 off Very proud of ya i think thats probably one of, if not the best song has ever done................
Has anyone else noticed a similarity between "The Checkered Demon" off Answer that...... and Mettalica's "Motorbreath" off Kill em' All? |
i really like them, i especially like the range of Davy's voice. it changes so quickly. i havnt got any of their albums but i intend to get one or two, can you reccomend any?
I like your avatar. I must steal it! |
I love afi. they are one of the most talented bands ive heard and continue to show major talent unlike most hardcore punk today or any punk for that reason. Jade is amazing and daveys vocal inspiration is David Bowie so you know theyre good.

Ya i know but i was referring to AFI as a 90's hardcore as it was called by many in the early days of punk. sorry i didnt mention that but theyre definitley not hardcore now. thanks for the correction.
|
I wish they (AFI) would go back to their early sound. It was so much better than the direction they are heading.
|
The thing about AFI is that the only thing that's really been said in this thread is old stuff=good and new stuff=crap
|
New stuff > old stuff
|
You are probaly the first one to say that in this thread! Any reason you like their new mainstream stuff better than their old punk stuff?
|
I kind of liked new stuff too.

Their newer stuff (Black Sails and on/When jade joined) has just been hardcore with a more melodic and experimental. There older stuff was too generic (not saying I don't like it) for my tastes. Also I'm big on bands experimenting/being not generic. |
Black Sails is quality. I still prefer the Art of Drowning though.
|
Pretty much ALL their releases are really good. I'm not so much a fan of what they did in Sing The Sorrow, however, It's by no means a bad album. It was just a big darker, slower and whatnot, which I'm not a huge fan of.

my friend's cousin is one of the guys in AFI...not sure who though

He's a good lier then. |
I liked AFI. Their early albums (such as Very proud of ya or Answer that and stay fashionable) are great punk albums, but as they got into a darker, more gothic aesthetic (talking about the time of Back sails in sunset and beyond) They lost some of their style, which was amazing, but their darker songs appeal more to me. The last album was good, at the time, right before Atreyu and such acts came abound, leaving AFI as another mediocre "-----core" band. But yeah. I like them. Art of drowning is an amazig album.

hate em. thank u come again
|
Just getting into them. I bought Sing the Sorrow today, and i think its pretty mad. I dont usually listen to punk, or hardcore (whatever they are) but I think this great.
