i heard the samples of the songs from soadfans.com,, they are down now because so many people where streaming them i guess. from what i heard they are a little differant of a style, especially because of the fact that Daron is singing in every song. i dont remember most of the songs, but i know that i liked what i heard from "Question!" and "This Cocaine makes me feel like im on this song". "Old School Hollywood" is like some wierd techo-style song. kinda cool though.

Anyone have an idea if a leak will come out for this?
I'm not sure if anyone COULD know, but I thought it'd be worth a try. |
its funny how a lot of people seem to forget that steal this album was a bucnh of bsides from toxicity and earlier
Yeah but a lof of it was re-recorded it was really only johns drum tracks that was left from the toxicity session's. |
All the people who listen to an album before it's released...
For shame. Even I, one of the biggest SOAD freaks out there, can wait. |
I waited outside, in 30-degree (fahrenheit) weather, for three hours, to find that System of a Down tickets had sold out. ****ing a. If we had gotten there five minutes earlier (literally) I would've seen them four hours ago.

Anyone know a site that i can pre-order that accept paypal? I hate this cc crap. :(

Mesmerize is great, really hard to compare with the other albums. It's just different. As expected, Daron's vocals are far more predominant than in the past, and Serj's vocals aren't as good or aggressive as in the past, but it doesn't really seem to matter. It's a new sound for System, and IMO it sounds great. It should be popping up on the p2p programs soon enough. Right now my favorites are Lost in Hollywood(easily the most "normal" song of System's that i've heard, Daron almost sounds like Oasis' singer in it) Revenga, and Radio/Video.
|
STA! has one of my favorite SOAD songs on it...A.D.D.
I dunno what it is, its just a great song... |

Where did you get it from? |
The best nu metal band and the only nu metal band i can stand besides mudvayne.
|
The best nu metal band and the only nu metal band i can stand besides mudvayne.
I don't even like Mudvayne :/ The song Happy is good though. |
Man, this is really good stuff... I thought they lost it after hearing Holy Mountain :/
This might even be my new favorite SOAD album. Its in the same vein as the self titled CD, and I love the weirdness on this album too. Toxicity wasn't really that weird. NP-Violent Pornagraphy wtf? |
You guys are lucky.....the new album dosent come out in the US for a week :upset: ......i cant wait
|
I'm the only one who doesn't like their debut but likes Toxicity.
|
Toxicity wasnt a "weird" album but the self-titled was and thats what made it different from a lot of nu-metal bands
|
I'm the only one who doesn't like their debut but likes Toxicity.
Don't get me wrong, I still like Toxicity, but ST was SO much better, it was so different I loved it.
You guys are lucky.....the new album dosent come out in the US for a week :upset: ......i cant wait
Download the leak man, unless SOAD is kinda important to you, then I wouldn't because if you really wanna wait and all that stuff, then thats pretty good of you. But SOAD arent THAT important to me, so I went ahead and downloaded it :p |
I'm gonna buy it when it comes out anyway, this is a really good album, they're getting my money for it. I can't wait for Hypnotize already.
|
For anybody who has heard this album:
Can you please rate it? Is it better than any of their other albums? Which of their Cd's does it sound most like? Thanks |
I thought I'd like there new one, but the more I've heard songs from it, the less Ithink I'd want to buy it. I only have Toxicity, and I like it quite a bit, though I have heard many of the songs off other albums, especially Steal This Album. So to anyone who has Mezmerize:
Should I buy it?/Is it worth it? |
I'll leave reviewing the album to someone who is good at that kind of thing, i'm finding myself having trouble explaining it. All I know is, I love it. If Hypnotize is even nearly as good as Mesmerize, then the Mesmerize/Hypnotize will certainly be one of my favorite albums. If you're one of the hardcore "EVERYTHING BUT SOAD'S FIRST ALBUM SUCKS" guys, then you might not like this one either. Your loss. This album is much better than Toxicity IMO, which I thought was an 8 out of 10 anyway. Maybe it's just the "I've only heard the album 3 or 4 times and think it's completely awesome" thing, but i'd give this a 9.5 out of 10. My only complaint is track order, i'm not so sure it all flows that well. I guess that's what happens when you have 40 songs to choose from. All of these songs have personalities of their own. But yeah i'll shut up now. Guys, this is definitely worth checking out.
|
Didn't Mezmerize leak?
|
If I like Steal This Album, what's the next album I should pick up?
|
The Self Titled. STA! and the S/T are both way quirkier than Toxicity.
|
You guys are lucky.....the new album dosent come out in the US for a week :upset: ......i cant wait
When, exactly does it come out? |
May 18th. It may not be that exact date, but its the Tuesday closest to that date. :-/ (Monday if you're a Brit)
|
Thanks! [/too lazy to open up Google.]
|
No problem
/Too lazy to confirm the actual date :p |
Mezmerize is insane. I thought 'BYOB' was a sign of the direction SOAD were heading. I was wrong. This thing is fast and furious, a punk album done in heavy metal. 'Cigaro' is a quick burst of obscene politcal ranting , 'Radio/Video' is a combination of carnival music and reggae, and 'Old School Hollywood' is the only song I know about a celebrity baseball game. Plus, it has the best lyric of the CD, 'Tony Danza cuts in line!'. My new favourite SOAD album, although I have a feeling it'll get mixed reactions. It's probably not for everyone.
|
when does would it come out in new zealand?
|
Okay insomnia made me change my mind, I did write a review. I posted it over on the SOAD board so i'll re-post it here for any interested. Kinda long, as it's track by track.
I've listened to this nonstop for 2 days in a row, and now I think i'm ready to give a review that isn't blinded by the "I've only heard this 3 or 4 times but it all sounds so fresh and awesome" thing. Soldier Side - You get a little taste of what you're gonna hear on the album, some beautiful guitaring by Daron and beautiful harmonizing. BYOB - We've all heard it, thrashy with high-speed verses, badass groove riff with the R&B chorus. Revenga - I felt the same as some of the guys above at first, this one grew on me immensely though. I love the thrash sound of the song, and amazingly you can even dance to it. Much like the chorus riff on BYOB, Daron can bust out some groove riffs. I thought the bridge with just Daron singing could have been much better, the rest of this song I love. Cigaro - Hardest song on the album, it's alright. Has a personality just like many of the songs on this album. I think Daron is finally figuring his **** out with that, creating characters formed from ideas/points-of-view and expressing them as he sees appropriate, in this case in a silly manner. Radio/Video - One of my favorite on the album. Daron surprisingly isn't annoying singing lead, and sounds very good within the song. I've seen people calling parts of it carnival-esque and/or reggae, well I don't really know wtf it is. It could be Armenian-sounding music for all I know, but it sounds great. Great harmonizing, I love the ending. This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song - This is my least favorite on the album. I guess it's the weirdest lyrically. Serj just trying to be crazy(and succeeding as usual), and it just sounds like he's kinda half-assing it. It's still a good song, and I like the riff a lot. I miss Serj's aggression on this album. Violent Pornography - Cool guitar intro, like most of the songs on here. The chorus sounds like something my dad would say to me, but it's pretty true. There's a 2-part verse before each chorus, and the chorus is pretty cool too. Sounds like a typical SOAD harmonizing chorus, which is on pretty much every song on here(as opposed to just Chop Suey, Forest, and Aerials on Toxicity). Daron talks about a "non-stop disco" at the end, I have no idea what he's talking about. Question - Great song. Very beautiful guitar work in the intro and verses. Serj's voice sounds like it wants to slip into the chorus too early just as he's talking about slipping into a dream, sounds cool. IMO Serj's best effort on the album, he sounds great and the lyrics(I seriously doubt Daron wrote them) are top-notch. Sad Statue - Another badass thrashy riff and good drum work. Cool alternating 2-part verse, typical SOAD harmonizing chorus. This, Question, Cocaine, and Revenga are all pretty much similar to a few Toxicity songs, only much more complex and IMO much better. Old School Hollywood - This one has dumb lyrics, but it's inspired by Daron's experience with that MLB all-star break celebrity softball game. I think it's hilarious that it's talking about washed up celebrities and then having a whole new wave vibe to the song, like they're taking you back to the 80's back when those guys were cool. One of those "Sugar"-sounding riffs, simple and very catchy. I still laugh out loud when I hear the laser noise before the chorus. Just a fun, catchy, goofy song. Lost in Hollywood - I was like "WTF IS THIS" the first time I heard this track. Daron is singing lead and sounds like the Oasis singer or something with a fake semi-british accent. The softest, and perhaps best, song on the album. It's actually a normal song, the only unexpected thing that happens is that it's System of a Down, and nothing crazy happens. Which makes this track insane. Great harmonizing in the verses. And then you hear Daron saying things in his fake semi-British accent like "ALL YOU MAGGOTS SMOKING FAGS ON SANTA MONICA BOULEVARD, ALL YOU BITCHES PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR AND WAVE EM LIKE YOU JUST DON'T CARE." Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. Daron doesn't try to do too much with his voice, he knows he doesn't have the best voice out there. But he uses it beautifully throughout the whole album, and especially here. I love this song. IMO if Hypnotize is half as good as Mesmerize, that double album will be my favorite SOAD one ever. The Daron-led songs are surprisingly amazing, I feared he would sound like an annoying idiot with lame lyrics. He makes his lame lyrics work and it just adds personality to the songs where he's heavily involved. Mesmerize is more comparable to Toxicity than it is to the self-titled, and IMO is better in every way. More complex, much better put together, better vocals(though less aggressive and angry, which is fine by me). The people who are all "EVERYTHING BUT THE SELF-TITLED SUCKS" might not like this one, because it isn't nearly as brutal or aggressive or insane as that one. But honestly, Mesmerize has better songs. Daron's guitar work has taken a big step up IMO, I don't think he's playing complex stuff(not that i'd know), but his intros to many of the songs are gorgeous, and the heavy riffs aren't as "chugga chugga" and are more notey(just as he said they'd be) and succeed in making you headbang. This is probably SOAD's most accessible album, and some are going to hate it simply because of that. Their loss. Daron's songwriting could be hitting its peak on this album, as things couldn't be put together any better. I can't wait for Hypnotize, bring it on guys. And yes, i'm definitely buying this in a few weeks. |
