Do guitarists even have chops? :p

For me, ideally, I'd do it Ayreon style, and pull in a load of guest musicians.

I can't do one band, so I'm doing 2, one heavier metal band, and one progressive band.

Band #1
Vocals: Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
Lead Guitar: Michael Amott (Arch Enemy)
Rhythm Guitar: Jon Schafer (Iced Earth)
Bass: Steve DiGorgio (Death)
Drums: Martin Lopez (Opeth)

Band #2
Vocals: Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Guitar #1: John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Guitar #2: Alex Lifeson (Rush)
Bass: Justin Chancellor (Tool)
Drums: Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)

First band is more straight up Melodic-ish Death, with the second being more progressive, with a large range of influences to draw from.
