Ah, a good classic rock sound?

A Zildjians, AA Sabians, and Paiste 2002s are great cymbals for that music. 2002s were specifically designed for classic rock, and were made famous by John Bonham, but are pretty **** expensive.

Massik Kretal 12-31-2004 10:51 PM

AA Dark Crash is that good? Like a nice soft crash but I also want a normal one. Stage crash what would this sound like?

ilikenoise 01-01-2005 06:51 AM
I have a 17" A Custom Crash. It's a versatile crash.. opens up beautifully, you dont have to smash it to get a good sound out of it. I prefer playing A Custom crash than A Custom Projection or Fast Crash.

Nice tone, nice shimmer, just the right amount of decay, doesnt drown out the sound of the drums.... it's simply one of the best crashes in the market. And sometimes here in Australia A Custom crashes are sold at about 40% off.. so that's a good thing coz i got all my A Custom crashes at that price.
Knows the score

The 17" A Custom is most versatile and still amazing crash out there.
2002s were specifically designed for classic rock, and were made famous by John Bonham, but are pretty **** expensive.
actually, they were designed for the time. because at the time, that variation of Rock wasnt "classic" Rock....it was Modern Rock.

SkaRabbit 01-01-2005 05:54 PM

looking for a crash. like someone earlier sed will cut through music and not rin on for ages afterwards.
£70 all i can afford though

Seafroggys 01-01-2005 06:09 PM
actually, they were designed for the time. because at the time, that variation of Rock wasnt "classic" Rock....it was Modern Rock.
Well yeah, that's what I meant. I put it into perspective.

bobby__johnny 01-02-2005 09:59 AM
2. AA Metal X and AAX Metal would be...the exact same thing. AA Metal X is like the AAX version of AA Metal, and the difference between AAX and AA has been mentioned by Bobby already. They are less versatile than pretty much any other Sabian cymbal, but they are still more versatile than Z Customs imo. They *are* the Sabian versions of Z Customs however.
that seems just a little confusing to me...so if your looking at loud *** Sabian Cymbals that are compareable to Z Customs, this is how i'd put it.

AAX Metal > AA Rock > AA Metal-X

then you can get into darker heavy cymbals such as Hand Hammered Rock, and HHX Power models.

boss 01-02-2005 12:42 PM

whats a good loud crash to end off a tom roll with, preferably the AAX line
i have about 170 CDN to spend

bobby__johnny 01-02-2005 12:51 PM

if your REALLY want an AAX, go with a 18" Stage Crash i'd say.

but look into the HHX....they would do the trick better i would think.

I'd Hit it 01-04-2005 01:23 PM

*Raises hand* My turn ^_^

I've got more or less 200$(Canadian) to spend on a new ride to replace my ZBT Plus. The ones I will be sure to try out are A ping ride, HH raw bell dry ride, maybe some HHX and even K/K custom. My only concern is will I have enuff $$ for a good ride with 200?

socialanxiety 01-04-2005 01:40 PM

Yeah, $200 is enough for a good ride, I'd go for the A ping personally, but what you should do is go to the shop, try out every ride for $200 and less, and buy the one that you think sounds the best. Make sure not to just tap the rides with a stick, but ask to have it put on a kit so you can check out how it sounds in context with the music.

I'd Hit it 01-04-2005 01:43 PM

yeah I know I'll be standing in their cymbal room for a good half hour before I choose anything. Going from one ride to another tapping only the bell usually gets a certain ride to catch my ear quickly.

Der Meister 01-04-2005 01:55 PM

don't go to the shop with a limit on your spending, if the one you want is out of your price range save up.

hyperdrummer 01-04-2005 04:28 PM

cymbals

im lookin for new hi hats, ride, and a crash, maybe a splash and i need help on what i should get. I'm on a 500$ budget and i was lookin at the zildjian a series, but i dont think thats in my price range. I'm also lookin for cymbal stands for them, if u can help me with that.

Plan B. 01-04-2005 04:50 PM

I figure I got my ride cymbal for a decent price - around $250 CDN. It's a 22" model in the K Custom line, so if you're into those types of rides I would suggest saving a up a little more than $200. A 20" A Custom Ping goes for around $210 here I believe.

sammysticks 01-05-2005 12:58 PM

hi guys i am looking for a top of the range hi-hat, i have £250 and am willing to spend all of it. i play mainly rock and like bright sounding hi-hats. any help is much appreciated.

thanks :thumb:

PowerStamp 01-05-2005 01:09 PM

I just bought an 18" PARAGON and a 17" AAXPlosion, and while both are great, they sound beautiful, I'm looking for what will be my 3rd crash, probably from the HH/HHX line...

I want something that's dark with not a lot of overtones, fairly quick decay.

llama123 01-05-2005 01:21 PM

^ 17" HHXplosion, or maybe an HHX Evolution 18" ^

Vespa 01-05-2005 01:56 PM

K dark crash- 17"

rollhockey77 01-05-2005 02:58 PM

I'm looking for something new (crash)

What are your guys opinion on say a 17' A Custom Projection Crash?
I like bright cymbals (like the z custom medium crash is awesome IMO).

any suggestions?

bobby__johnny 01-05-2005 03:01 PM

if you thnk the Z's sound awesome, than that A Custom Projection will melt your ears in tone.

rollhockey77 01-05-2005 04:10 PM

Aight thanks man. I'm gonna head out to guitar center and check em out.

Cant wait to spend xmas money on cymbal lol

Do you mean the AAX Dark crash?

There's one at my lessons, it's a very thin crash for sure - pretty broad dark shimmering sound. It's werid because it's in a brilliant finish, which I think would brighten it up, but it's really dark. Try it out for sure, you may or may not like it.

bobby__johnny 01-05-2005 09:04 PM

Brilliant Finishes Darken a bit actually.....but i would hold off and look at some HHX or Hand Hammered Models instead. this way you get your choice of weights....not just "thin"

slickrick1688 01-06-2005 05:37 PM

Im looking to make some sabian maxx stax our of some zildjian cymbals, what would i use if its possible to be made with zildjians?
