Starts off with a little intro on the sax, backed with a steady drum beat on the cymbals. The singing begins after around 10 seconds, with the lyrics aimed squarly at the bands hatred of the "bastards coppers". their despise is evident in the lyrics "jumped up pricks with CS gas/ we'll riot make them look like clowns". Their verbal assault continues throughout the song, pausing for a 10 second guitar intro before launcing into a repeat of the lyrics "f'uck the pigs".
The song then refuses to lose intensity, launching back into the simple chorus repeat "bastard coppers".

The song is simplistic, yet well written and well constructed, with shout along choruses and strong political lyrics that are consistant of filamenst songs.

Then the vocals kick in, I say vocals, they sound like a 13 year old trying to sound like the voice-over for a horror movie at high speed. The lyrics are unintelligble. They're probably just screaming "GENERIC! GENERIC!" There are some vocals, then some music that goes "DUHH-DUHDUH-DUHDUHHHHHH" just like every other song like this I've ever heard. This exercise in mediocrity is repeated a few times before, if you're still awake, the music changes at around 1:40. This is slightly better but the band obviously realised that this one riff is the only thing preventing them from castration by people who like good music and repeat it until you hate it as much as the rest of this steaming dog turd of awfulness masquerading as a song. The singer repeats something over this riff as if he's trying to remember something. He's probably saying "Note to self: Do not suck next time" and if hes not he should be. After this bit there's some more sh[U]it[/U] music but fear not, the end is in sight. With a long, drawn-out, boring outro to match the intro the song finishes. If you haven't slipped into a coma by this time you'll be weeping with joy that you never have to listen to this song again. Now right click, delete, yes, open recycle bin, empty recycle bin, yes. Now you are free to do something more enjoyable, like castrating yourself with a cocktail stick. 0.5/10

Black Market Baby - Downward Christian Soldier

This is a cool 80's punk band that Joe discovered and told me about recently. I just downloaded the album and I've only heard this song and two others (this being the first time hearing this one). It begins with a simple bass riff that you can hear played throughout the song. The vocals sound like a faster, more punk-sounding version of Naked Raygun's singer. The song is very catchy, at the beginning I was nodding my head along to the music and the chorus you wouldn't be surprised if you would find yourself singing along to the chorus "downward christian soldier!". There's a guitar solo after the first chorus, which is odd because solos are usually after the second chorus, which before you know it, you're already at. And around 1:40 they have another solo :o

And another right before the end! Good song from a not that special band but definitely needs more recognition. 8/10

Well i expected some Progues sounding music and I dont think i was entierly wrong, well they both sound Irish anyway. The song starts off with just some Violins (well im assuming there violins) and the a nice steady beat suddenly crashes in. So far so good, I even like the guys voice. But as the chorus comes in the Guitar takes a back seat to the Violin and it gets a bit folky for me, but the catchiness of the verse is back and this time with added Wah. After that there was a bridge which seemed to be gaining momentum and I thought it was leading at a heavy rocking final chorus but i was a bit let down when the Folky sound came back in, i thought they could have gone somewhere else with it. The end is just the vocalist nicely singing "Whatever happened to my green and plesant land". I dont think i'll keep this song in my playlist for long, but its in no way a bad song. I give it a 6/10.

Songs starts off with a basic oi guitar and drum sound. Vocals come in at 30 seconds, more of the usual for an oi song. The music has a good beat to it. Chrous comes in with the classic oi/footy chant, repeating the title of the song. Same guitar and drum line continues after the chrous no vocals. Vocals come back at 1:20. Another verse, then chrous. Guitar solo comes in right before the 2 minute mark, and it's a really good rock and roll guitar solo. After the solo the drums get a kind of military feel to them. Back to the verse. It sounds like boot stomps have joined the insturments. Song ends with the chant of the song title, and then a big Oi! Oi! A good song. 8/10

The opening sounds like something you'd hear from a cheesy hair metal power ballad or something. About 30 seconds in, the singing comes in with what sounds like a sort of southern accent, singing triumphantly about standing out, and standing proudly for our beautiful (white) nation against the enemy. 2:00 in, the distortion and drums kick in, the songs speeds up, and the lyrics go more into sweeping out the dust (with a big brush). The music isn't like most Skrewdriver songs I've heard (9-5, boots and braces, etc.), and overall it just isn't very good. Not the best attack in the fight against the ******s.

Now I don't particuarly like Tiger Army, but this is supposed to turn kids on to other music, so I'll stay as unbiased as I can.

The song starts off with a pretty fly descending bass line, then the rest of the band kicks in and it starts up properly. Nick 13 does this little riff right before he kicks in with the vocals, and the band backs him up with growls and roars(like Tigers, I suppose).

The song basiacally repeats itself a lot, and it's an alright psycho song, but nothing special. At the end, they have a little outro, which is basiacally Nick trying to solo and Rob...Peltier I believe was the bassist at that time, I don't think Geoff had signed on yet. Anyway, Rob and Fred Hell back him up while he solos, blah blah, it gets a 7.

The song carries on like this for a while and it starts to get a bit repetitive. At about 1:10 some background vocals and claps start to fade in which sounds really good then it fades out to the drums, claps and these background vocals before another strained scream and it goes back to the music again. Musically this song is good but I just couldn't get over the intensely annoying vocals. This song is proof, if indeed any proof is needed, that people with Down Syndrome shouldn't sing. 5/10

Starts with a ascending guitar, with bongo drums in the background. The vocals are spoken, instead of sung. Bill and Henry trade back parts. They are talking about commercials, raising oil prices, religion, among other things. The same music continues throughout most of the song. It seems like its more of a spoken word with music, then an actual song. It is a good rant, and it's funny how angry Bill gets at some things, Rollins as well. They get in an argument over size matters, then back into the same trading back and forth. Music changes a bit, with the bongos in background. Bill makes a joke at himself talking and not singing. Pretty good song, I enjoyed it. The other songs on his new album are quite good as well, a recomended download. 8/10.

It starts with Mojo singing loudly over quiet music. The lyrics are quite simple but still funny. After the first lines the music kicks in properly. Its catchy and the lyrics are still funny. Nobody else would rhyme 'urine' with 'shroud of turin.' The verses are just a couple of lines before the chorus; "I'm gonna UPS my heart to you" The music throughout is good and perfectly complements Mojo's strained vocals. This chorus-verse bit repeats a couple of times before it changes with a little bridge and a guitar solo with little phrases shouted over the top of it like "I'm a rock n roll man" After this there's a brief pause as the vocals start before it goes back to some more vocals but its not the same as before. The lyrics are still great featuring '57 midgets' and other such images before the chorus comes back. There's a long section of music after this with some nice background vocals and more yelps and slogans from Mojo before the song finishes. I really liked this song. Its really catchy and really funny. 9/10

This one will hit you. If it's not the waa waa guitar, it's the killer basslines. If it's not the killer basslines, it's the jungle drums in the background. If it's not the crazy jungle drums, it's the incredible socially relevant lyrics. This set came out a good 15 years before I was born, but I can still relate to the problems presented in "Pusherman". This songis a classic, ridiculously good. Hats off to the late, great Curtis Mayfield on this one. 9/10.

Starts out with a screamo style riff and the singer randomly screams. It is an alright riff the whole song, and the vox are screamo style. At the end it descends into a metal double bass drum outro which is typical of a screamo type of band.

Its start off with some Jamaican guy saying the name of the song before the song kicks in with some fairly standard trad ska. Its good but not stand-out. Around 0:25 some horns come in or rather, one horn which sounds fairly lonely playing the same call-and-response bit over and over againt while the singer randomly shouts the song title with little variation in the music. I really liked this bit. The horns, despite the repetition, worked well. Then, at about 1:15, there's an organ solo that goes on for a while with bloke shouting intermittently in the background again (Note to self: when putting together a ska band avoid people with tourettes). The organ solo is alright but preferred the section before it and it drags on for a while. Around 2:05 its back to the horns with a different solo this time before the song fades out quickly. This is a very standard trad ska song. If you ike the genre you'll like this song but if you're not a fan this won't convert you. 6/10

This song starts off with an eeiry sound guitar line that shows it self several more times throughout the song. The singers voice comes in with a raspy tone that seems like he has been through a bit. He is singing of what appears to be his experience in Vietnam and how his "liquor's gettin' warm." The music continues and has a constant eeiry feeling. Further into the song he tells of an LSD trip where he killed his own platoon. Bridge comes in a short time after this and continues with a similar line to the oening one. I really like the feel of this song. I like the guitar tone, it fits really well with it's echoing sound. I enjoyed this song quite a bit. 8/10

It begins with a really cool whiny guitar intro that's almost got a spooky vibe to it. 10 seconds in this is cut off dramatically by the drums, bass and vocals kicking in. I don't really like the vocals and the lyrics are so-so bt the music is great and the way it works with the vocals is really cool. The chorus just sounds like the verse so you don't know thats its the chorus until your second listen. At about 0:40 seconds a really cool section starts with "You can't forgive"being repeated over some cool music. After this it goes back into the verse and chorus again and it ends with the repetition of "I'm sorry." As I said before this song is pretty standard fare lyrically and vocally (although are some cool echoey bits) but the music really shines. The whiny, jarring guitar creates a real feeling of unease far more effectively than the lyrics and the bass and drums back it up well to create a great sounding song. 8/10

I have technically heard this song before, but not in at least a year, so I'm counting it as not hearing it, since it's been so long. Starts off with a violin part that's really cool, a real nice beginning to a song. The violin goes on until about 30 seconds in, and a guitar joins in. Vocals start in. They are really clear and easy to understand. After the first verse, at 1 minute the music picks up to a tango type beat, with a nice beat to it. Then to the chrous where its drums, guitar, violin, and tamberoin maybe. The lyrics are about being evil to people, and not wanting any pay but tears. The lyrics contrast with the music well. Back to the tango type verse, and then the chrous again. Still really good I like the lyrics. I should get some more Voltaire stuff. At 2:30 the lyrics go into a evil pledge of alliegeance. I like the lyrics "Beezlebob has never seen a solider like, not only does job but does it happily. Back to the tango verse thing, then chrous. Not boring at all, has a good flow to it. I could see myself waltz around to this music with a partner (preferably one as evil as this person). A 4 minutes, there is a bit of a musical breakdown, the lyrics get solomn, talking about being sad about being evil. Then after it, he switches around saying he was lying. Very good song, excellant lyrics and music. 10/10

There's a little skit at the start with some redneck guy talking about blood draining from someone's face before the music kicks in. Theres a distorted fairly standard riff over pianos and whilst neither of these are particularly special they sound quite odd together and it makes the song more interesting. The vocals come in and they're okay, again nothing special as the lyrics are too. The song continues in the same vein for quite a while with the guitars over the pianos with some guuitar solos. Its all fairly standard but still quite enjoyable. It basically carries on like this for the rest of the song. I enjoyed this song but, as Warren says at 1:37, "It ain't nothing special" 7/10

It begins with Jack black counting in "1.2.3.4.5.6.6.6." So you know its gotta be good.

The song is Jack talking about how Rock n Roll Is only a birth of Classical music And about 30 seconds in, Kyle Plays the first half of the Bach Bouree. WHile jack (as always) sings hilarious lyircs. The song Would've been a big hit if sung by someone else and with proper lyrics...But i love it this way. As im sure do all of you.

It has a Very catchy Bass Riff and some tasty fills from Kage.

All around it is just a beautiful Cliche' of Rock And Roll.

[B]The Transplants - Californian Babylon[/B]

I decided to try a Transplants song other than that one that's in every other commercial these days, so I could get a better taste of what they sound like. And still, I don't think they're very good.

Song starts with a reggae-esque drum opening, followed by the same piano line you're going to hear for the rest of the song. Tim Armstrong comes with one of his trademark failed attempts at singing like Joe Strummer. There's a brief part with some screaming, which sounds pretty cool, and then it's right back to the same annoying piano line and Tim advising us not express lack of understanding. Once you get to about 1:30, you've heard the entire song, but the song is somehow stretched out to a dull, repetitive 4:05.

AFI - Days of the Phoenix

I haven't heard this song in about a year, so I decided it'd be like reviewing a new song. Starts off with a dissonant guitar riff and simple drums. A drum fill and the bass kicks in. Guitar drops out and vocals start. The verse is pretty good, the guitar coming back in halfway through. Theres a prechorus where everything kind of drops off, then goes into the chorus. The chorus itself is pretty chatchy (as are most AFI choruses). another verse. another chorus. A melodic breakdown starts. Something about teenage death boys... it's kinda lame, actually. chorus again... ect... ect..

a decent song overall, but the bridge is kind of lame. (8/10)

ATM-Blank Blank Wants You Dead
It starts out with some dude saying stuff that is sorta inaudible for me. Then vox kick in, saying "Blank Blank wants you dead" which go throughout the whole song. Then 1/2 way through a xylophone kicks in which was random and cool. I liked the riffs and everything, but the vox were way louder than the instruments. Hey starting up you cant always get the best recordings. All in all I liked it.

I've never actually heard the Virus, althought I've heard Cheap Sex and though them really bad so I thought I'd actually check this out too. Starts off with a crescendo feedback, and a simple disotroted power chord riff. Someone shouts let's go, and it goes into a standard street punk type riff, with about 3 chords over and over again. Vocals come in and Mike Virus has the standard type street punk voice. Has a good beat to it, just like most street punk. The song is really generic, but that's what street punk is all about I think. Nothing really fantastic about the song, but nothing horrible about it. There is a small guitar solo but its drowned out by the repeating chant in the middle. Decent song, I probably won't check out more though. 6/10

I've never heard of this song, and I wish I had sooner. This song is great, since it has two of my favorite things: Rockabilly and Jello Biafra making fun of that fat b'astard Elvis. The lyrics are great, Jello's usual dark humor mixed with pseudo-politics, and Chumbawamba do a good job of supporting here. The song has the same music as Heartbreak Hotel, but so much better. This song rocks, even though it's live, and I recommend it for listening immediatly(10/10)

the songs starts off with some clean guitar and some ska backbeat. Soon enough this dude starts wailing and I can only understand a few words. After a guitar slide the tempo picks up, not alot though, and some horn is introuduced. The guy aint finished wailing though. And a chorus of 'Whoah Whoah' sounds comes in. Then back to the verse and more wailing, the the chorus and a very sudden stop. Ive never heard Agaisnt me! before while this song aint gonna make me got get an album it aint too bad

This song starts with an absolutely killer riff that sounds strangely familiar. The vocals kick in and the singer, Beki Bondage I think it is, is quite good. The vocals have a synthy-edge to them a bit like HR on the Bad Brains ROIR sessions. The music complements the vocals well. I particularly liked the drumming. This song is particularly revolutionary but it does what it does well. The chorus is the title (with background vocals) and some more lyrics interlinked. At about 2 minutes there an instrumental section with some cheesy hand-claps which goes back into another verse. The lyrics are fairly standard but they fit the song well. This is a good song but it does drag on for a while and Beki's voice grates after a while. 7/10
