i think "best frontman" means the person who is most likely to lead a band towards success, who would turn any band into a great one instantly. if thats the case, id have to go with mr. jimmy page. (on second thought, dont forget jimi hendrix)
but if you mean just the coolest frontman who is as charismatic as he is talented, then id have to go with jim morrison. people are still obsessed and intruiged by him 30 years after his death. personal favorites: morrison, hendrix, page, staley, cobain, mercury, bon scott, too many to name one. |
I would say Hendrix, and Alice Cooper.
Dave mustaine
Roger Daltrey
Eric Clapton (both with Cream and Derek and the Dominoes) Ozzy Osbourne Bon Scott Ted Nugent (hes just crazy)
I love Clapton, but Bruce was really the frontman of Cream. |
jim morrison, roger daltrey, chris cornell, zack de la rocha, robert plant, axl rose
I agree with you apart from axl rose and chris cornell i would add dave grolh to the list because he is such a great performer and has so much stage energy |
VINCE NEIL hes so **** great its unbelieveable. Also i like that Lemmy guy.
Bon Scott,
Axl Rose Michael Hutchence Freddie Mercury Layne Staley Zack De La Rocha Bruce Dickinson Chris Cornell Theres a couple more but im too tired too think of them. icant believe i almost forgot Eddie Vedder or Jim Morrison |
Has anybody mentioned Ronnie James Dio.
I have.
Between Plant and Mercury I guess...
Maynard James Keenan
ya Alexi Lahio rules he is a great guitarist and vocalist
Maynard James Keenan
This guy knows what he's talking about. |
Without a shadow of a doubt its gotta be Bruce Dickinson :D Hes one of the few frontmen thats been around for so long and hasnt lost it
He has such a powerful voice live His crowd intraction is fantastic-I have never seen another frontman to quite live up to Bruces standards. With Bruce its not an act-you can see that he genuinely loves what he does-Youve got this short guy with an immense voice who is constantly hopping around the stage, jumping over monitors and leaning as close as he can to the crowd constantly trying to get them going(youd know what I mean if youve ever seen em live or heard Running Free from Live After Death or Drifter from Beast Over Hammersmith) He has far more energy than bands half his age and I also find his stage comments bloody hilarious(he does a rant in Live After Death about how ST Coleridge smoked pot and that Queen Elizabeth took it for her period pains and you see Bruce rubbing his stomach and making faces while talking bout this  ) And lets not forget "Scream for me....." |
im gonna go with clapton(cream, derek and the dominoes, blind faith) and hendrix(jimi hendrix experience, band of gypsys), who werent mentioned too much, and jerry garcia(grateful dead), who i dont recall seeing at all
Angus Young- Spinning around on the ground while in a solo, shaking his head back a forth a million times a song, or crowd surfing.
Jimi Hendrix- moved so gracefully with his music. |
Zach de la Rocha, Maynard, and Cedric
I gotta go with James Hetfield
it also seems nobody remebers Gene Simmons
Maynard James Keenan, Geddy Lee and Tony Sanders. The last two just because they play bass insanely well and sing at the same time. Their singing however leaves much to be desired.
Its seems that lots of ye have just named the singer of yer favourite bands and have no substancial reason as to why they are any good :)

Clapton, in most of his band projects, was not a frontman. He may have been the best member in some cases, but his style isn't really that of a great frontman. He hardly sang in Cream or Blind Faith, and he wasn't like Angus Young with crazy dancing. He stood still a played his part. Great player, but he's not a frontman in my eyes. Cream was more under the influence of Bruce, anyway. |
Bon Scott of AC/DC, forever loved and remembered
Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, the godfather of heavy metal, warrior and leader, he is ROCK N' ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I have to say, there are a few that demand my attention (in absolutely no order at all):
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) Maynard James Keenan (Tool/A Perfect Circle) Freddie Mercury (Queen) Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) and finally Thom Yorke (Radiohead) How could anyone forget Thom Yorke? The man is a God! |
Iggy Pop or Jim Morrison
Definatly James Hetfield
Not only is he an excellent singer who can scream and growl with the best of 'em, but he can really sing, (Fade to Black, Nothing else Matters), AND he is probably the best rhythm guitarist in metal. Hetfield is most of the rhythm in the band. Last, he writes almost all the songs, the only member contributing as much as him possibly being cliff. |
maynard james keenan. and i think mikael akerfeldt is an awesome frontman. plenty more but im not gonna mention them.
Plant, Chris Cornell Is Definatley One Of The Best Of All Time And So Is David Lee Roth
johnny rotten even though i dont like too much the band and the best frontman for me BRUCE from iron maiden
and mynrad sorry i forggot TOOL ROCKS!
