How many people here have actually listened to more than 8 or so songs?
Not enough.

I myself am a huge AC/DC fan, and I am quite literally sick of everyone raving about their top songs (i.e.: You Shook Me All Night Long, Back In Black, Highway To Hell, etc). I'm not trying to say these songs aren't good, but they don't compare to their other songs. A lot of people don't even know that there were two different singers, which is part of the problem in itself. People also believe that AC/DC is "repetitive" and that it "all sounds the same" but they probably haven't even bothered to listen to their other works, such as the Jailbreak '74 in which their blues influences are more apparent. Another album that is over looked is Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. If people listened to this album they would see that AC/DC has some different sounding songs, such as Ride On, which is (for those of you who haven't heard it) is a really easy going and mellow song, with well written lyrics.
Although some of their songs are not too complex, Angus Young has quite a bit of talent. They must have some talent if after all these years they are still doing what they love best, they're in their mid-40's and they are said to release a new album next year. What other bands have done this? And AC/DC has managed not to change their style and conform to the fads of the time. During the disco era, AC/DC was asked to create a disco song with some of the rock riffs/solos incorporated. The band was completely against the idea, and when they were asked for a demo of their disco track, Malcolm handed them a demo of Highway To Hell, which ended up being a hit, despite the fact that it had no influences of disco...at all. It's these kind of morals that have kept AC/DC holding strong for so many years. Unfortunately people know very little of AC/DC and judge them solely on their "common songs" which are sometimes a bit overplayed on the radio stations (at least where I am located). Hopefully people will continue to look back into AC/DC's roots, rather than merely listen to their surface hits.

AC/DC > You

JACKROXYOU 12-13-2004 09:42 PM

Just ask them if they've heard Mistress for Christmas or Big Balls

fairly only fans or album owners would know those

BludgeonySteve 12-13-2004 09:46 PM

Big Balls is so awesome :). Their one song without a guitar solo but it's one of their best. Bon Scott's the man.

DrFeelgood462 12-13-2004 10:20 PM

The balls held for pleasure are indeed the balls I like best.

rippa32 12-14-2004 02:15 AM

Is there any ac/dc fans out there who also play guitar? Even if you dont check the chords for High Voltage.

Andrew "angus young" White 12-14-2004 06:34 AM

The simple philosiphy of the young brothers is "why use two words, when one will do". This applies to there song writing. They dont try to cram as much as they can into a song. They write with the flow of the song and use what feels right

I always thought Brian Johnson did that one?

I sometimes can't even tell the difference between the two... :upset:

JACKROXYOU 12-14-2004 04:23 PM

nice avatar^^^

yea just remeber bonn scott used to play the recorder
heheh just kidding

before back in black= bonn scott
hehe...look at the name.

I dedicated my screen name to malcolm because he is more dedicated/ talented than angus. Angus admits that Malcolm is a better guitar player. He writes most off the riffs and solos and Angus just plays them.
'tis the truth  Malcolm's sooo much cooler and Angus gets a lot more credit. Im pretty sure Malcolm does the Highway To Hell riff and Thunderstruck, and Angus just does the solo. Do you know how hard it must be to do the thunderstruck riff for... about 5 mins? Thats crazy. I can play that riff on my keyboard and it tires me out after 30 seconds. Anyways I think ac dc is a kickass band, they make great riffs... their only downfall, I find, is that at the end of most of their songs (about 95% of them Id say) they always say the name of the song over and over again. Other then that, they rock my socks off

AC/DC is the best band ever!

rap+good charlotte=crap 12-14-2004 05:26 PM
This is so awsome to look at all these threads and all these ac/dc lovers defending rock n roll. I have one thing too say... people say they are repetitive and simple blah blah? Well once you have been in a band 30 years... gone through the death of your singer, had the 6th top selling album in the world and are still producing music then you can talk. But most people dont understand how hard it is to produce completley different songs spread out over atleast 20 albums...there are only so many frets on a guitar and drum beats and lyrics you can write... if you looked at most songs they would be similar because there are only so many chords ect. I beileve they are one of the best bands in the world, the talent is great, but mostly they love rock n roll and put on a good show. Over-raited? they are anything but.

"When we started, we didn't care about gettin on the radio and we didn't care what people said about us...We just went out and played rock music"
Angus Young

"Style, I didn't think we had any! I just plug in and hit the thing really hard. That's my style...or lack of one!"
Angus Young

AC/DC is just rock n roll...
So true. AC/DC only sounds like they do because over the years they tried to remain true to their sond and style. Is that reall such a bid deal?

Nope...that songs of Dirty Deeds there second cd (In America)

And AC/DC Rock! Cant wait for their new album.

TheSeeker625 12-14-2004 05:51 PM

AC/DC is a **** good band, and I honestly don't care if their songs all sound similar, because they all sound good. If your entire playlist or CD collection consists of one band or even one genre, it's definitely all going to sound similar. AC/DC are extremely good at what they do, which is making simple, blues based rock and roll, with o.k. lyrics, and a great guitarist who can solo quite well. Whch reminds me, I want a Gibson SG.

BludgeonySteve 12-14-2004 08:54 PM

Their songs don't sound simalar. People who say that their songs sound simalar have probably never heard them. It's the same style but they're much different sounding.

These people are the same ones who think brutal death metal bands are creative.

Malcolm did play all through thunderstruck. But the riff you are thinking of (the one that starts the song) is done by Angus. With one hand. for 5 minutes. and then he still manages to pull off a solo. So even though Malcolm is a great guitarist don't be so quick to knock Angus.

This thread has a lot of good input, i agree most with the statements that ACDC is not overrated, u've gotta be a godd*mn idiot to think they're overrated, or any big rock band, if they have the 6th best selling album of all time they have to be doing something right and so its no f*cking wonder that everyone loves them, same goes for Zeppelin and i'd have to say Green Day, so dont degrade the legends cuz they got there on talent and ambition unlike the sh!tty mall punk bands who people rave about today.

Oh yeah and ACDC rock :thumb:

rippa32 12-15-2004 07:33 PM

I just saw the Stiff Upper Lip DVD. I've gotta say even though there getting on in their years they can still rock as hard as ever. Except I noticed Angus wasnt as energetic as he used to be.

AC/DC are staying true to rock n roll, to the music they love and the music they believe in, people can go knocking their style all they want but even now after 30 years in the business they are still pumping out that sound, unlike the money hungry swines of james hetfield and lars ulrich. AC/DC might be getting on a bit but to stay together as a band as produce consistently good music that is the same is fantastic. They are supposedly releasing a new album which will possibly be entitled "Strap It On" in 2005, should be good, I would pay top dollar to see them perform. It is true that angus is losing a bit of his flare but he's 50, you can't be at the top living the rock n roll life and it's extremities forever, eventually it will take it's toll.

Yeah true. And all that drinking and smoking probably didn't help.

Marty 12-16-2004 02:46 AM

usually when acdc release a new album a world tour follows shortly after...i must see them live

ArcLite 12-16-2004 02:52 AM

I will do anything and pay anything to see them live...as said before there probably arn't going to be a lot more tours by them. Chances are winding down, I will see them. Just bought Powerage a couple weeks ago, loving it. It was pretty much the only one I didn't have. Downpayment Blues and Gimme a Bullet, great songs. Man, I love Ac/Dc.

shane_is_cool 12-16-2004 03:06 AM

ac/dc are an awsome band if there songs are catchy and good to listen to then
what are you all bitchin about, if they are not talented then how the hell can they release so many albums and still have so many fans, does it matter that there songs are easy to play, if it sounds good then thats the only thing that should matter, i dont think thay are repetitive and if you think they are then you try releasing 17 abums and see if you get repetitive :thumb:

Ulysses 12-16-2004 05:06 AM
usually when acdc release a new album a world tour follows shortly after...i must see them live
Yeah, they last toured in 2001, when i was just getting into them. Me and my mates have a pact that if they tour Australia we must see them. It will be an experience I don't think I'll forget as they are one of my favourite bands if not my favourite.

Andrew "angus young" White 12-16-2004 07:43 AM

I too will pay top dollar to see AC/DC on tour.
"Im pretty sure Malcolm does the Highway To Hell riff and Thunderstruck, and Angus just does the solo."
Yeh Angus does both the thunderstruck intro and the highway to hell intro. Its true that Malcom is the brains behind the legendary AC/DC

acdc_fan 12-16-2004 10:05 AM
acdc made me take up guitar :thumb:

i think angus used to be underrated but lately he's somehow picked up some attention. There are many new bands out there who try to play the AC/DC style but can't make it big. I guess AC/DC is one of the only bands where repetitiveness has actually worked.

I can say though, that their style of playing is often imitated but never duplicated.
Angus also inspired me to start learning guitar. ac/dc is my favorite band, i can listen to them for hours on end (ive done it many times) and never get tired of them.

ROCK ON ACDC!

acdc_fan 12-16-2004 10:10 AM
Can't stand his voice
Hey, no offense, this is just my personal opinion, but brian johnosn voice is one of a kind. alu hear now days is the same old voices. i think the voice of brian johnson is part of how they got so famous.

acdc_fan 12-16-2004 10:14 AM
AC/DC is the best band ever!!!!!!!!!!!! I love them to death!!!!!! Angus is amazing and Malcom kicks ***, and there probably one of the greatist live bands ever!!!
hey i agree,
acdc is without a dobut, the greatest rock band ever! i would do anything just to see them live. i wish i could hjave lived in the 80s just to be able to see them regularly.

ROCK ON ACDC!!!! :thumb:
How many people here have actually listened to more than 8 or so songs?
They have about 130 different songs (and probably some that I havn't found yet). Yes there are some songs that sound pretty much identical like Back Seat Confidential and Beating Around The Bush which have exactly the same intro riff. Dirty Eyes and Whole Lotta Rosie are really similar as well.
But other than 3 maybe 4 pairs thats it. That leaves about 120 other songs.

On another note, ACDC do have the best driving music hands down. The most obvious being Highway To Hell. It's great when your on a long journey.

ACDC rule!!
yea it kind of makes me mad how peeple only listen to thier big hits like back in black and highway to hell. they have hundreds of ohter songs like let there be rock and all those songs that peeple dont listen to regularly. but i think its cool taht peeple actually enjoy acdc.
