I'm with you there, BOnzO. I too am 17, and while I'm a big fan of new rock as well, I love classic rock. This is probably largely due to my upbringing. I listen to lots of my Dad's CDs. Some of my favourite bands include:
The Beatles
The Eagles
Led Zeppelin
Herman's Hermitts (more pop but yeah..)
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Deep Purple
Billy Joel

And two of my very very very favourites that hardly anyone I know has heard of are:
Supertramp
Badfinger

It would be great to see a classic rock revival.

King David 03-20-2004 08:55 AM

Classic rock is the greatest, it really got me into music. My favorite classic rock bands are:
Pink Floyd
AC/DC
Bad Company
Boston
Cream
Van Halen
YES

Gotta love it!!:thumb:

EDIT: i suck at reading my posts before i post:upset:

PinkFloyd 03-20-2004 10:10 AM
well i think the best band ever was the Beatles. they had more good songs than any other band i've ever listened to. plus all the songs sounded different. no two beatles songs sounded the same. and while their songs were maybe not on the same level as say Baba O'Reily, Won't Get Fooled Again, or Stairway, they still outdo the other bands by sheer number of good songs. i would love to see another band with the kind of talent they had. maybe that's what the music industry needs to get off this rap crap...
Listen to much Floyd lately?

hendrixdude17 03-20-2004 10:14 AM

it's all about jimi.

B0nz0 03-20-2004 11:22 AM
Listen to much Floyd lately?
but floyd isn't starting a new popular revival of psychadelia. i wasn't even aware they had new stuff, and if they do, it's not bringing the industry as a whole back to the quality of the classic rock. they aren't getting any radio play, and thus aren't getting new fans. while they are probably bucking the formulas, as they did when they started, the odds of them coming out with another Dark Side, and exploding onto the mainstream of contemperary music is not likely...especially without roger waters

FrailandBedazzled1979 03-20-2004 03:25 PM

^^

isnt Sammy back with VH now?

Zppln 03-20-2004 06:32 PM

Revival, yeah it is... Last year I got made fun of for liking Led Zeppelin, now everyone in my grade (well, about half actually) likes them.

Oh, and the rest of my band finally agreed to do a Zeppelin cover and a Hendrix cover

 me too. Everybody said that they were "old fart's music" (keeping in mind that this is grade 9  ) I played some Zeppelin for them and now everybody suddenly turns into huge Zeppelin and other classic rock fans. Yeah i'm pleased with the change.

I'd go to that show if you played some hendrix and Zeppelin.

Yeah, they're in lockup in a studio right now :(

deftoned 03-20-2004 06:52 PM

Noone's mentioned Grand Funk Railroad yet? haha

Badmoon 03-20-2004 09:53 PM

^ I don't care to much for Grand Funk. It is not like I hate them, but I don't like them. I do realizes that they did sort of pioneer the way hard rock sounds and is played, and for that (Though I'm not really into hard rock) I respect them.
WAR
I saw them live, my friend was opening for them. They were fantastic.

I used to be all Classic Rock all the time, but now I'm getting into some new stuff. My heart still is with the classics though.

B0nz0 03-20-2004 09:57 PM

wow i'm really glad this thread took off so well. i was worried i would just get flamed at first... anyways u gotta love "american band" by grand funk. anyone mention Electric Light Orchestra yet? they kinda picked up where the beatles left off...i'm hooked on them right now. o and what do u guys think of some of those other 80's bands like ZZ Top and AC/DC?

StreetlightRock 03-20-2004 09:57 PM

Gar! this kicks ***, i was at a party just last night, and they were playing stuff like jimi, sex pistols, Iron Maiden, Led Zep... its like the first time, it so rocks, 'cause like me and the other guitarists in the school have been playing all this classic rock, so the everyone is moving away from ***** punk and rap and stuff.

DVG.

nice. i think teens are generally becoming more open to classic rock, cuz they realize how bad rap and most modern music is, and the record companies can no longer make it all look cool... i hope at least

deftoned 03-20-2004 10:19 PM

AC/DC are the shiznit, ZZ Top are good, but to a way lesser extent. Has anyone mentioned the Yardbirds or Aerosmith?

deftoned 03-20-2004 10:22 PM

Nah, most kids still like R&B and whatever over here. It doesn't bother me, I can semi-tolerate it, 'cos me and my mates listen to our music, but when I'm at a party it's usually ****. But the last party I was at, there was like Television, the Who, Clash, Sex Pistols. It was well bitchin'!

B0nz0 03-20-2004 10:28 PM

u guys gotta check out the new Yardbirds album Birdland. OMG IT IS LIKE AN ORGASM. not a bad song on it. plus they get tons of amazing guitarists on it. they do all the old favorites with new arrangements and guitarists like slash, jeff beck, skunk baxter, joe satriani, etc. o man it is amazing. plus the new material kicks ***.

BludgeonySteve 03-21-2004 01:12 PM
AC/DC are the shiznit, ZZ Top are good, but to a way lesser extent. Has anyone mentioned the Yardbirds or Aerosmith?
Oh right ZZ top. They rock, and I forgot about them. I'm so very sorry :(
AC/DC are the shiznit, ZZ Top are good, but to a way lesser extent. Has anyone mentioned the Yardbirds or Aerosmith?
yardbirds are a little to "old old rock" for my likings lol, but i listen to Aerosmith religiously. espically the "get your wings" album.

BludgeonySteve 03-21-2004 02:14 PM

How could they be too old rock? Good music is good music no matter how long ago it was made.

That's something that a person in the pop-punk forum would say.

"omg leik sum41 is soo old, i dont leik dem no more"

FrailandBedazzled1979 03-21-2004 02:39 PM

you have it all wrong. i dont like the sound of the yardbirds, or of many rock bands from the mid-late 60's. enjoy cream, hendrix, iron butterfly, etc... but some groups are a little to bland from that time period for what i like.

FrailandBedazzled1979 03-21-2004 02:40 PM
Yeah, they're in lockup in a studio right now :(
not another studio album! lol, for unlawful carnal knowledge and 5150 were both great, but balance and ou812 are hard to sit through, lets not even talk about VH3. i just want to see them on tour :)

Badmoon 03-21-2004 02:41 PM

^ I disagree. The 60's, in my opinion, was the greatest time period for music. I don't think I have to post the bands as examples, because I already posted them on some of my other posts on this thread.

FrailandBedazzled1979 03-21-2004 02:50 PM

see, thats a good opinion from you. i know others who enjoy the stones and the who more than 70s rock (which i feel was rocks prime) bands like rush, zeppelin, boston, etc...but the sound of the 70's, the amazing timeless songs to me are just the peak of rock music...the 60's paved the way for what the 70's brought but the 70's had a better number of rock acts, even if alot of them started in 1969...their best works and their sound is what describes the 1970's.

VoodooChild 03-21-2004 03:01 PM

It's good to see that you guys mentioned a lot of nice bands. Also I agree with Badmoon (my lover) that the 60's were THE years for music. Anyway, anyone listens to Blue Cheer. They are a pretty raw blues-rock band, I like them a lot. They are a bit like Zepp but more raw. They also came before Zepp and influenced them a lot.

Griffin_Page 03-21-2004 03:51 PM

I love Yes, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Rush, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynryd, Alice Cooper, The Yardbirds, and the like.

Classic rock the best form of rock, where tone still existed. Bonzo's drum sound? Perfect. Songs written by these bands? Perfect.

FrailandBedazzled1979 03-21-2004 04:57 PM

^^^

it must have been great growing up in that time period. where every band that came out was amazing, bands wrote albums instead of hit singles, and everyone was into rock for all the right reasons (which IMO the right reason is because its a lifestyle) rather than a trendy phase.

Badmoon 03-21-2004 05:51 PM

I just find the 70's cheasy as hell. Like the music was pointless it was all about useless feelings and thoughts.

But what I think doesn't make it true.
