Beltsville was easier in comparison, and I only played like a minute or so on Avenge The Dead. Which just proves sometimes they're insane and sometimes they're sort of insane.

I'm never going to do Subtle Dagger, mainly because the scale run near the end right before the palm muting is impossible. I have no idea how Teppei does it.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-01-2005 10:57 PM

He has 6 fingers.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-02-2005 12:04 AM

The Arcade Fire is playing on Conan Obrien in a few minutes, just thought I'd let you guys know.

Yeah, the starting in the middle of the song was confusing. Tappei is amazing though and I dont think anyone can play his stuff. His talent was much more evident on Illusion of Safety though.

****. :upset:

Hmmm - I can't get anywhere near Thrice levels of playing... I struggle with 'Deadbolt'... :(

In my defence, I'm a 'jack of all trades, master of none' - I play lots of instruments, but none to a particularly specialist level.

UnDeRoAtHfAn777 02-02-2005 10:01 PM

Yay, you guys are talking about thrice!!! I'd rep you but I have like -220 points lol

Teppei is amazing but Dustin Kensrue is pretty underrated. He is an awsome lyricist too.

I could whip together "Deadbolt" in something like twenty minutes tops. That's one of the easiest songs they do.

Nightvision 02-02-2005 11:20 PM

yeah, that's the problem...

SubtleDagger 02-02-2005 11:22 PM

The only thing I could see someone struggling with is the intro. All left hand, man, you gotta train your fret hand timing.

Nightvision 02-02-2005 11:25 PM

That is indeed the trouble. For some reason, my picking hand (right) is much faster than my fretting hand.
Of course, you don't pick the intro, so it doesn't matter. Guess I just need to practice hammerons more.... man that makes me sound like a guitar n00b. :upset:

Nonono, you DO pick it. But the picking is not important. It's synching up your fretting fingers with the pick strokes.

Nightvision 02-02-2005 11:52 PM

ah.... now if my left hand could just keep up with my right, I'd be ok. Looks like it may be back to the old practice room for me.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2005 06:29 AM

Well, you also have to know the fretboard on your guitar. That makes finding the right notes a lot easier when you want to play faster songs :).

theredwonder 02-03-2005 06:46 AM

My fretboard is covered in a black layer of my dead skin. Anyone know what's best for cleaning acoustic fretboards?

(this should probably be in GF but it's some good stimuli)

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2005 02:43 PM

A cloth maybe? You could probably pick up cleaner or oil made especially for guitars. I dont know though.

here's how i got good at syncing my hands together

the classic 1234 pattern

just go on the frets 1234 up each string

Next time you change your strings, take a towel, and whipe it down... I'm a Nazi with keeping my guitar clean, I whipe smudges off every night and if there is anything under the fretboard, I take the strings off, and then clean it, and then I put them back in (that really helps with my lack of feeling the need to tune it).

Practice the song slowly at first until you have it completely perfect, then try faster.

Wow, would it be spam if I were to say, this thread has died?

So, I have to do 8 pieces in 20 days for my college portfolio. Any medium, any size, I just need 8 of them. Suggestions/advice?

All I've been painting with lately is acrylic. I frigging hate acrylic on it's own, but if you throw a lot of water and paper towels in, you can get insane stuff going.

before i can give any insight on this topic, i have to ask if there are any mediums that you prefer, or find easier to work with?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-06-2005 08:34 AM

Hmmm... pen and ink, charcoal, pencil, oil paints, pastels, sculpture. I've been doing impasto lately and that is loads of fun cause you don't even have to clean out brushes, just wipe of the painting knife :).

Subtle, acrylics are evil, I always lose my attention on one part of the painting and go to another, then by the time I get back, the other part is dry and I cant blend. Evil I tell you.

You have to paint on canvas, if you do you can usually get some really hardcore paper towels and wipe that shit out with enough water.

from your note on arlyics, i find it amusing, i'm not into the whole reality of things, so if you keep an abstract based mind, then there is nothing that has to be put in its proper place.. for the love of my immagination..
For the topic of having 8 items to create in 20 days, i think you may have left yourself a little short on time, but my suggestion if you can't come up with topics is to possibly use current events to come up with inspiration..and for the mediums to choose( in your time frame) 3/8 would have to be in a medium that you know how to work well and with haste...good luck on this dilema.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-06-2005 08:22 PM

Thanks guys. Oh today I picked up The Arcade Fire - Funeral and Bright Eyes - Digital Ash. Both very nice CDs. Conor is losing his touch, but he's going towards a more folk sound that is really unique to him. The Arcade Fire remains awesome. Anyone else have those? I know everyone here likes I'm Wide Awake more, and that's going to be my next purchase, but what are your opinions on those CDs?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-07-2005 09:17 PM

Wow, okay. So after listening to Digital Ash a lot, it's really good. I Believe In Symmetry rings of his old sound infused with his new folk focus. Gold Mine Gutted is also amazing. All the songs on it are excellent (except for maybe Time Code).

Still need to pick up Wide Awake though.

sparkylp2002 02-07-2005 10:05 PM

I was thinking of going out and buying an Interpol cd. However i dont know which one to get. So would you guess recommend "Turn on the Bright Lights" or "Antics" first? or should i not buy them at all?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-07-2005 10:08 PM

Turn On the Bright Lights, most definitely. Antics is pretty good, but I'd see if you could burn it before you spend money on it.

sparkylp2002 02-07-2005 10:09 PM

Thanks APS, ill probaly buy Turn on the bright lights tomarrow, hopefully.

theredwonder 02-08-2005 06:30 AM

'Turn on the Bright Lights' is a much better album. But i think 'Antics' may be slightly more accessable since he changed the vocals quite a lot.
