I think it would fit in better with Undertow, due to the dark shadow it casts, and Undertow, being a dark album,(stfu Moses) it would fit right in. :)
|
Yeah, you know....
|
Yeah, you know....
Agreed. |
Oh, he sucked you into his Lateralus=darkness theory too, Kage? Weren't you the guy telling me that even though the music may not sound dark and angsty, Wilson's lyrics make Porcupine Tree's songs very forboding and dark? :fistshake:
oh, and btw, those 2 posts made me laugh, just because it kind of shows the really community of this thread. :) |
First time we talked about it Kage was the one to agree with me.
|
First time we talked about it Kage was the one to agree with me.
Yep, yep yep. I always thought that about Lateralus. And, yes to the PT thing as well. |
Yeah, I think I remember that, now that you mention it. I knew there was one person who thought the same, but I wasn't sure who. Meh, I guess you're probably right from a musical standpoint, but that's only half of the beauty of Tool. For the most part, Lateralus is supposed to be an album of inspiration. You know how Tool always chooses the song that best encompasses the entire album, and they name that song after the album?(or vice versa, not sure) If you consider that fact, and then consider what the song Lateralus is about, ("Spiral out, Keep going" great words of inspiration) I think it then becomes apparent that the album was almost supposed to create an almost uplifting feeling.
|
I agree with you in that aspect. Lyrically, I know what you mean, and the instrumentals as well can be quite uplifting. But to me it's dark in a different sort of way. Like, this atmosphere that runs underneat all the songs on the album add an almost ominous tone to it, which almost builds up until the final climax of the title track. That's kind of the way I see the album, anyway.
Oh, and Reflection is about as haunting as you can get. :p |
I beg to differ....
One word Rachmaninoff |
I beg to differ....
One word Rachmaninoff
One word owned. :upset: |
I use to think Lateralus was really dark to, but now looking back.. I don't think its as dark as I once thought.... Maybe because I haven't heard the cd in 5 months?
|
Are you still holding out for the new album?
|
I beg to differ....
One word Rachmaninoff
Well, of course, because he was a classical composer, and correct me if I'm mistaken, but the lyrical aspect is nonexistent there. I think that we're arguing the same side, but somehow coming out with opposite opinions. |
I find Schism to be extremely beautiful song, in lyrics especially.
"The poetry that comes from the squaring off between, And the circling is worth it. Finding beauty in the dissonance. " That is quite possibly my favorite lyric of all time. Also, I agree with Jake, the albulm over all is very inspiring, to me atleast. |
Are you still holding out for the new album?
Yes. :( |
Well, of course, because he was a classical composer, and correct me if I'm mistaken, but the lyrical aspect is nonexistent there. I think that we're arguing the same side, but somehow coming out with opposite opinions.
Shhhh...... Schism would have been alot better if I didn't hear it on the radio so many times. It's too epic. |
I'd recon to consider it my least favorite song on Lateralus. Not because I've heard it on the radio so much(I'm a Tool n00b, therefore I didn't ever hear it when it was at it's peak of popular single-ness) but I think it's because it *gasp* drags on too long. I saying this is basically considered a sin to Tool fans, but it really does. That boring section has it's own rights to coolness though; Has anyone noticed how the pick scrapes pan from right to left when wearing headphones?
|
I think the end is a bit of a misfire on Schism, because it builds to this huge climax, and the resolution is a bit unnecessary in my opinion.
|
Yeah, I've noticed that panning effect.
Schism was a weird choice for a single. I think the title track or Parabola would have been way better choices. Maybe even The Grudge. If you listen to Schism in the right mindset it's just insane. |
Really? the climax is probably my favorite part... I love that like... 3rd last riff thats really heavy sounding...
|
I'm not saying it's my favorite song, but the lyrics in the song are just amazing. However, were I to pick a least favorite track on Lateralus, it would probably be The Grudge. Even if the last part is quite awesome, I don't really like much else.
|
Wasn't Parabola a single? There was a video for it.
Meh, I'm not too concerned about Tool's mainstream releases. I'm too tr00 for that. Otherside- /slaps  |
I can't believe you said that. The Grudge is flawless, and incredible. One of my favorite songs ever. The whole band displays their talent here... Maynards scream.. Dannys solo... Justins melodies... and Adams weird effects.

I don't care about Tool showing off their talents, that's not what it's about for me. I just don't like the feel of most of the song. |
Really? the climax is probably my favorite part... I love that like... 3rd last riff thats really heavy sounding...
Right, like I said, the climax is amazing. It's what's after the climax that drags a little for me. |
Those wierd effects would be Adam's Virus synthesizer. Quite the little tool.
rofl |

I do... it flows perfectly IMO. |
I bet The Grudge is amazing live.
**** that reminds me, I have to find that Radio City Hall DVD from them. |
It is... just watch Oklahoma.
|
Funny you should mention that Moses. I asked FollowtheReaper to upload a Tool bootleg, and hopefully he'll do it soon.
I think I mentioned this, but perhaps you didn't see it. I think The Grudge is on there. It's audio, just so you don't get your hopes up. :p |
Yeah I remember you saying that. Audio sucks :upset:.
|
stfu DSL boy!
:upset: I remember i downloaded one of Jom's 8 second mx video posts. Took me 2 hours. |
Why don't you get DSL Jake? To expensive?
|
Hey it's not my fault my step dad is a computer programmer with full benefiets.
|
I'm uploading a video of The Grudge live in New York, so then you can see it all. Pretty cool stuff. I'll post it when it's finished.
|
I uploaded that a long time ago when I uploaded all the Tool visual I had.
|
Oh, right. I got several videos from that bonanza.
NP: Chopin - Ballade in G minor ;) |

Glad that did someone some good. Ben already had all the videos I uploaded. |
So do you not want/need it then?
