I'm 99% sure that Kirk not James played the leads on KEA.

Does anyone know how these guys play the solos so fast like on One and the solo after the slow one on Master of Puppets?

I know that but is there a special way they play them or is it just regular picking? |

Alternate picking is how I would do it. |

Kirk's sh*t is FAST |
Kirk's sh*t is FAST :amaze:
I don't think it is anywhere near as fast as everyone says it is. NP:Of wolf and man |
Kirk's sh*t is FAST
IMO, people like Marty Friedman and Jason Becker are sh*t fast. Much faster then Kirk. NP: Testament-Into The Pit |

no, go listen to some real guitar players. |
no, go listen to some real guitar players.
I wouldn't go that far |
i would, kirk is overhyped, sloppy and monotonous.
i would, kirk is overhyped, sloppy and monotonous.
It's true that he's overhyped. |

I don't agree with one point you said there |
Don't really need to be so hard on him.
It's obvious he hasn't heard much, if any Megadeth (And from that Marty Friedman), and I highly doubt he would have the fogiest idea who Jason Becker is. You could instead, go about it in a different way and just recommend he listens to some Jason Becker or Marty Friedman (Maybe via Cacophony), and then listen to Kirk again and judge who has the speed. |

NP: Testament-Into The Pit
Rusty Cooley is much faster than them. He sounds like a damn computer game :-/ |

I used to think Kirk was the fastest, but then I just went discovering more music and guitarists. EDIT: I will check out Rusty Cooley |
Yesterday was my 20th birthday. I went to buy SKOM, but couldn't find a pirate version (which is cheap), so I bought a Yngwie DVD.
Shi, I'm getting old :upset: |
You're only a fraction older then me though.
But how fast does time go by now, I could have sworn yesterday was 2002 :x I haven't got around to watching the second disc yet. I really just wanna see the rest of the Mustaine interview. |

---- I want to see that too. Too bad my list (of things to buy) is MEGAbig. Yeah, time does run very fast. I remember the first time I saw/heard 'tallica on TV in 1998. And being at school back then I had no money to buy CDs or even cassetes. So I spent many nights in my friends room copying from his tapes. Ah, good old days :p |
My list of thing to buy is HUGE too :upset:

well bad start noob. anyone that plays guitar would be a guitar player now wouldn't they? who do you like that's so special? |
I agree that Kirk isn't the fastest solo-ist out there, but i definitely wouldn't call him a sloppy guitar player. Anyone who's seen him in concert would agree that his skills are quite sound.
|
I dont think Kirk gets the credit he really deserves. Sure he is over-rated to an extent, but i think thats mainly because of the fanboys only know of him because he's with Metallica. After i watch Live Sh*t B&P and he played that monsterous solo before he went into Little Wing, i gained a lot more respect from him.
Cooley is probably the fastest guitarist i have ever heard aside from Baitio, but i really cant stand stuff like that because there doesnt seem to be any real emotion in it. Its just kinda like "I can play THIS fast!...Oh yeah? I can play FASTER!" The best instrumentalist's cd i have ever bought is Satch's Strange Beautiful Music Satch owns all |
Uh, who cares who's faster? A guitarist can be faster, but writes crappy music. Kirk isn't that fast, but I like the solos he writes. And he's not sloppy at all. His live performance solos are pretty much identical to the studio ones. What do you guys think about james? He's kinda better than kirk imo.
Satch owns all
Uh, definetely not all. |

James' solos are much more interesting in my opinion. Case in point: Orion. |

His solo's in concert are different from the albums...if you've seen them before you'd know that he improvises a lot. As does the rest of the band |
But the guy said kirk is overhyped, sloppy and monotonous.
|
what solo does james play in orion? are you talking about the pretty part?
|

I have like 15 of their live performances. I have all of those mp3 songs as well, and trust me, they sound pretty much the same. Plus his timing is almost always good. |
i think its the part after the little bass solo isnt it?
|
the bass figure by itself before the 3 part harmony or the actual bass solo after kirks and the key change in the middle?
|
it actually says in the little booklet in the cd i think
|
I'm pretty sure he did all 3 solos. They just don't sound like Kirk to me...
|
doesnt james also play the solo in nothing else matters?
|
doesnt james also play the solo in nothing else matters?
Yes he does. It's pretty short though. :( |
James's solos always seem more creative and original. I guess when you've written as many solos as kirk they start to get a little redundant.
/not bashing kirk. |
