Spunk - En Aldeles Forferdelig Sykdom
Catherine Wheel - Chrome I'm really enjoying the Catherine Wheel album, I can see a small shoegaze/alt faze coming on. Some greatly melodic and powerful works to be found here. It's a nice change of pace from the electronic/jazz/avante-garde things I've been listening to recently. Those other releases are great as well, but it's nice having something that doesn't require my undivided attention. |
Rehearsing My Choir by The Fiery Furnaces.
It's odd, but I like it. The ramblings of the grandmother somehow appeal to me. |
JR Ewing - Maelstrom
What the hell happened to this band. Des Ark - Loose Lips Sink Ships Surprisingly good female-fronted duo. They're less rocky than Sleater-Kinney but not as sappy-sounding as Rilo Kiley. The girl's a nifty guitarist and singer to boot(reminds me of Maura Davis<3). |
Minus the Bear- Menos el Oso
This is a great band. My favorite song on this album is "Hooray" for its great chorus and amazing melodies throughout. There's even a neat guitar solo in here during one of the refrains of the chorus. Otherwise it's also very danceable and evokes a "great night out" atmosphere. |
I've been listening to Vespertine this morning. I think I will listen to Paul's Boutique in a minute.
Son, that is a weird-ass combination
Aceyalone & RJD2 - Magnificent City I mentioned it a while back but I'm still on it. It's a really fantastic album, one that I'd imagine will stay on my favorites for the rest of the year, mainly for the first two songs. But it's strong all the way through. It comes out Feb. 7th, don't forget. I'm sure it leaked by now.
Found it on slsk. Can you post the track list so I can verify it? |

A fun one though. :chug: |
A fun one though. :chug:
I'll have to try that one out.

I've been listening to some grind type stuff. Daughters and The Locust mainly.

Got a mix of some alt/indie stuff and listened to it. Pissed Jeans is a pretty good sleazey noise-rock band that I'm sure Tangy is familiar with. The other songs were pretty much unremarkable or too stupid (Wolf Parade's vocals are terrible).
|
I just got the first four Talking Heads albums on DualDisc in the mail.:D
Are those the Rhino re-releases - in that big boxed set, but available individually, I think - or something else entirely? |
Been listening to Kevin Gilbert's The Shaming of the True today. Concept album about the music industry. Fairly prog-rock influenced. The good sort of prog, though.

All For U Fire Cornbread, Eddie and Me Mooore Supahero Highlights Disconnected Caged Bird Solomon Jones A Sunday Mystery Junior Heaven Here and Now A Beautiful Mine I can upload the thing when I go to Uni later if you got bum tracks. Slsk doesn't seem to be working for me. |
That would be much appreciated. The user from whom I'm trying to get the album seems to be problematic. I have a lot of Acey/FF/Project Blowed records you might want in return.
|
You wouldn't happen to have his first solo one, do you? If not, that's cool. Let me know your email and I can send you a link once I'm over there.
|
People usually count which is his first solo album differently, but I have both All Balls Don't Bounce and A Book Of Human Language, if either of those is the one you mean.
jon@madvillain.com is my email address. How cool is that? |

Those are them. |
my user title and location are from the Minus the Bear song "Hooray," which has seriously been blowing my mind lately. in fact, the avatar kinda makes sense within the context of the song too :)

You should be getting an email at your very cool indeed address. If anyone else is interested, let me know and I can link you. Oh yeah, and right now I've been listening to White Light/white Heat, thinking about whether or not I should write a review for it. I don't really want to write something for an album that's already been done, though. |
Those are them.
I really need to get those, then. The production's always been pretty much my only problem with early Talking Heads albums. Rhino seem to do some good reissues (based on these, and Elvis Costello). |
In the Country - This Was the Pace Of My Heart Beat
Shining - Sweet Shanghi Devil Parker & Lily - The Low Lows <--- Awesomeness Habib Kotie - Baro <-- Im loving this Jon, thanks so much for it and most important of all Secede - Tryshasla ^ Best cd I've ever come across in a long, long time. Ambience at it's finest |
Back Off Cupids - s/t
John Reis' (of Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes fame) mostly instrumental solo work. It has more varied styles than his band stuff, and easier on the ears. Some fans might like it more, some won't. Despite not hearing Rick Froberg yelling with his familiar riffing, it's a grower. |
I'm totally digging Ted Leo this morning. The problem is I've got The Tyranny of Distance and I always get bored before I finish listening to it. :(
|
That's what I'm talking about.
Their other cd Here Comes Winter is just as good. I feel as if I was watching My Bloody Valentine on stage and someone suddenly pressed the slow motion. I cant wait to see them live. |
Cat Power - The Greatest
Mountains - Mountains Catherine Wheel - Chrome |

I'm somewhat familiar, as in I know/like 3 songs of theirs. |
I've been really into Jeff Buckley lately. A friend sent me a load of his stuff, now I have two of his albums.
