well heres a better one, anyone else notice that Pantera's Fucking Hostile sounds a lot like Metallica...even the solo sounds like it Metallica

Im not implying that they stole a song, but merely that its very Metallica-esq

also...live sh*t. it's post-cliff tallica, but they play a lot of the old stuff because it was in like 1992 and 1989.

They play the old stuff because thats what the majority of Metallica fans like. My friend went to their concert in Atlanta a few months ago and he said they only played like 1 or 2 new songs.

FlyingPaul_83 03-09-2005 06:37 PM

Which DVD is the bestto buy for me? ( i like there old **** more than their new ****)

Carlos Santana 03-09-2005 06:38 PM

ok earlier somone said that Jamyz had to do the solos on Kill'em All due to the recording studio limit or something...Is that true, not saying anything bad bout hetfields playing but im suprised if he did all the solos.

No i read this a long time ago. Like a year or so. I think i might've read it in a metallica timeline of their career..not sure though.

Joe 03-09-2005 08:10 PM

not possible. no way james did them.

did i miss something? is there a reason people spell his name "jamyz???"

Leper 03-09-2005 08:16 PM
not possible. no way james did them.

The solos?..or the bass? Because im like 90% sure that james did some solos on kill em all, and about 70% sure that he did some bass..

Really? With such a great bassist like cliff? I know he did guitar solos, but bass?

Joe 03-09-2005 08:23 PM

so which songs did he do?

16000th post

hatchedinalab89 03-09-2005 08:25 PM

Iv'e never hear of James playing any bass solos, and if I remember correctly, Cliff the bassist for Kill em all, and I'm sure theyd find a way to fit him into a studio, even if there were studio limits. Just curious, do they record all different instruments at different times? Like drums, then guitar, then bass, then vocals? something like that?

Carlos Santana 03-09-2005 08:27 PM

he can shred?

Joe 03-09-2005 08:31 PM

no james can't. he's not a bad soloist but he's not a shredder

willis2441 03-09-2005 10:27 PM

didnt lars and james do a drum battle on live **** and james wins?

6stringslinger 03-09-2005 11:01 PM

I read that Cliff was the most "technically advanced" member of the group and Cliff taught James a lot of theory. Kirk said that Cliff could play some guitar and was actually becoming a good guitar player.

I read this in a recent issue of Bass Player magazine(one with Cliff on cover)

hmmmmmm

6stringslinger 03-09-2005 11:14 PM

Some one earlier was asking if Metallica recorded all thier instruments at the same time or record them seperately.

On St.Anger Bob Rock recorded the whole band playing together like in a large studio or garage. Bob said he did'nt want to use anything real fancy, just a raw stripped down sound. You notice on St. Anger you can hear some guitar feedback, fingers rubbing on the guitar strings, snare sounds like a tin can ..........that is why it sounds different than all thier other albums.

Normally they record all the instruments seperately

James does one solo I know of on Kill 'Em All and that's the first solo on The Four Horsemen.

lars does rimshots, thats why it sounds like a can

thelittledrummerboy 03-09-2005 11:29 PM

It sounds crap, that what it is.

mprules 03-09-2005 11:30 PM

no i dont think so, he just basically has very little snare, i dont think lars could keep up with rimshots

willis2441 03-09-2005 11:36 PM
no i dont think so, he just basically has very little snare, i dont think lars could keep up with rimshots
trust me,he rimshots and he has a big snare

thelittledrummerboy 03-09-2005 11:51 PM

I heard alot of things that make that sound that aren't rimshots such as using two skins and strapping a piece of metal to the bottom of the drum to give it that hollow, metallic sound. but rimshots could be all it is. My friend said when he saw them in Sydney that the snare sounded like it always did.

James does some pretty cool **** on the Cunning Stunts DVD. If anyone has that listen to his improvs in Fade to Black and Leper Messiah(the first part of the 2 dvd)

6stringslinger 03-10-2005 12:42 AM

I bet James can do a lot more things on the guitar than most people think. I don't know if we will ever hear what he is completely capable of.

lecky 03-10-2005 12:49 AM

im sure he could play lead if he really wanted to, he doesnt appear to be as quick as kirk but from the little teasers u see here and there, james can really let it rip when he wants, not to mention their riffs arent very easy to sing and play. but he doesnt seem to struggle at any point of any song - peace

ThrashMaster27 03-10-2005 12:55 AM

I'm sure he could pull off a few solo's, but he doesn't. Why? who knows. Metallica aren't a band that share Lead duties like Slayer, Megadeth, Priest etc etc. Perhaps James isn't good at creating solos, cause I can't see any reason he doesn't do more.

mprules 03-10-2005 01:00 AM

also i think he said at one time that playing leads would get in the way of his "drinking"

lecky 03-10-2005 01:01 AM

yeah this is true, any solos that he does do are scripted, MoP, nothing else matters...... but then again kirk just plays slightly modified versions of the albums solo's... its one for the ages why james doesnt solo more. frankly im not fussed i think that their lay out works a charm. and it'd have to wouldnt it coz theyve come a fair way
