I'm going to some punk show tonight. Should be fun.
What's up, dudes? |
Just browsing the web for a potential 2x12 candidate (I think I've decided on an Avatar B212 with the speakers changed to Eminence Kappalite 3012LF's instead of the 3012HO's that come in them). They're the most reasonably priced 2x12's that I can find, and they seem to get decent reviews.
|
I'd say what's your budget... but I don't know how much things cost in America :p A lot of high end gear costs more just because we have to get it imported in.
New bass day tomorrow ^_^ |
Sweet.
Now that I've got a bunch of money saved up I want to buy a badass amp. I'm still mostly leaning towards a Twin Reverb, but haven't made a final decision. I'm also thinking about a Traynor YCV-80. It's an all tube 2x12 combo. |

New bass day tomorrow ^_^
It's about $350. This is really just for a practice amp/small stage use. I just found this: http://www.lopoline.com/catalog/item/4491332/4505032.htm Which comes devoid of speakers (that I'd upgrade to the Eminence I want anyway, and I'd probably get rid of the 1/4" jacks and install some neutrik jacks) and will cost $343 after shipping. I can make it a work in progress and slowly add in the drivers and jacks as I get the money. Hmmm... What's your new bass? You gonna sell me that Shuker? |

New bass day tomorrow ^_^
Please tell me you're getting a 4 string :p |
lol. 4 strings...
|
Lol 6 strings which are hardly ever practical unless you're playing jazz...
|

I get a ton of use out of my 6 string in my band. |

Yeah, I would beg to differ too :p But it's this: With black hardware. And a birdseye maple fretboard. And side lights. And possibly a side mounted jack. I can't remember. |
How often do you really need to go to the 24th fret on the High C string? The answer...practically never.
|
It's positional stuff. And it changes where your notes are in relation to open strings.
|
It's also the number one cause of early onset spinal arthritis in bassists age 16-65.
|
if you're feeble :p
|
anyway, christ, i'm getting a 4, stfu :p
|
lmao I know, i'm just trolling you six stringers.
I actually have a Brice sixer, but I'm selling it as I never use it anymore. What brand is the P bass? And don't think I don't know why you're getting a P bass :P |
Yeah, you know exactly why, hahaha ^_^
It's a Shuker. It's basically the JJ Burnel signature model, but I wanted to change a couple of minor things, so it isn't a JJ signature model. |
See man, Glassjaw's bassist didn't need six strings to sound brutal :p
|
Lol 6 strings which are hardly ever practical unless you're playing jazz...
6 strings are most at home in wank-metal honestly. If you can't get by with four strings in jazz there's something wrong with you because four strings was all Mingus and Carter needed. |
Lol exactly my point. Like it's not like a case of why do you need six strings, it's like why can't you make do with four?
It's mostly a feel thing to me. 4'ers just feel the most like a bass. I'm in like a proggyish rockish band and tried taking my six string to practice and I found noooo neeed for it whatsoever. |
Exactly.
I had a much longer post than this, then realized I had not posted it. Rewrote it. Then realized I wasn't connected to the internet. **** writing it out again. |
Lmao it did post? wtf is going on here.
|
So boys, I'm going to ask a stupid, stupid question... but I can't be bothered to search it or know the specifics to searching it.
I may have mentioned my Jazz Bass before: ... shit. never mind about the pictures, it looks like I'd need an online link to post them from. Well anyways. let's pretend there's a 60th Anniversary Jazz on this post. Actually wait... here. OK, so anyways. last weekend, I decided it would be neat to pull the pickguard and give it a whirl naked for awhile. Well, I actually really dig it without the guard, even though the electronics for the neck pickup are exposed, à la Tim Commerford However, for some goofy reason there's this one hole in the body, right near the second horn. It's the first newer era Jazz I've seen with the pickguard off other than a few folks (like Tim) who dig modding, so is this a regular thing with Fender's bodies nowadays? Damn, I really wish I could put the pictures up. ah well. |

Thing is, this is my office computer, and the company blocks file sharing sites and programs. Unless you're admin or you have a reasonable excuse to get permission to use the program/site, you're up a creek with no paddle.
but I digress. My question stands. |
idk, nobody really truly NEEDS more strings. if people ask me what i need so many strings for, i tell them i don't really need them, i just like them. which is the truth, playing a 4 string feels weird to me, but playing my 7 feels normal. it's just what you're used to and what your preference is :)
|
The hole is something to do with the spraying of the body, and how they suspend it in the factory. Or something like that. Most of them have it now.
|
That hole is used for the CNC cutting machines.
As far as 6-strings are concerned, I never use the 24th fret (unless I'm already up there and want to quickly find the harmonic). However, most basses don't provide full access to the last frets, so if I want access to the 21st fret, getting a 24-fret bass is usually the way to go so that you have ample room. |
I play up to the 23rd fret on my C in one of our songs.
|
This is the nicest precision neck I've played. Absolute winner. Need to get it through some valves ^_^
