When has Devin ever played Nu-metal?
Again, I said for lack of better term. Basically, playing something more then a trem picked Drop C part.

You live in a town called Moose Jaw. Sounds like an awesome place...

Did you see me? I had the Tool shirt on, with all the spirals and stuff.
Not that I remember. Where were you? I was on the rail about midway between Mikael and Peter with a plain black shirt on. Semi-long hair, standing next to a big dude with short hair.

Shadows 03-05-2006 07:21 PM

Why does everyone hate Harvest? :(

What? I love Harvest.

I was between Mikael and Peter too, right on the rail but not right in the beginning. Eventually I got onto the rail a little before Opeth started. Was the guy you were with about 6'3" and wasn't standing up straight the whole time?

Also there was a chick trying to go through my pockets and some guy behind me said the same thing except he almost got into a fight over it.

So do I, but I usually mention that and everyone says they hate it.

Because people are stupid and they don't realize that an Opeth song without growling is actually good.
Because people are stupid and they don't realize that an Opeth song without growling is actually good.
That's a terrible mentality. All of my favorite Opeth songs happen to be some of their softer moments. Damnation is probably my favorite album.

I've never heard of anyone not liking an Opeth song because it doesn't have growling. If anything, people dislike Opeth songs because they do have growling.

Shadows 03-05-2006 07:39 PM

I ♥ Hope Leaves.

Well I know some retard metal heads at my school who are all like "Metal pwns! Trivium roolz!"...and they said just that. I looked at them in disgust and then told them to kill themselves.

I tell you, some metal fans can be really retarded.
I ♥ Hope Leaves.
As do I. The opening guitar part and lyrics are phenomenal.

Damnation is the secks.

Harvest is awesome, one of my favorite Opeth tracks.

Almost all damnation is lyrically soothing. I thought it wasn't very complex at the beginning, but further listens made me realize it's a fantastically written album. So is Harvest. And Face of Melinda. And Benighted. And pretty much everything soft they do.

You've been talking to the wrong people, ShadowsFallen. :p

Shadows 03-05-2006 07:50 PM

I know, non-Opeth lovers are fools!

And I'm craving the new Fragments of Unbecoming album so bad. :(

Thor 03-05-2006 07:50 PM

In terms of the most soothing Opeth songs, methinks that the best ones are "In My Time of Need" and "To Bid You Farewell". I always look to those tracks whenever I'm down or just need to relax.

 yea they are!!!

Yeah, Sterling Black Icon is going to kick ass man, a friend just sent me the title track and it owns. :)

Yeah, I still only have the two songs released, but they're so good. I've been listening to Skywards a lot to fill the void.

I kind of realized recently that I have a deep love affair with Orchid. It's very strange. when I first bought it a couple years ago I could listen to a few minutes of In Mist She Was Standing, and that was it. Everything else bored me. but now...every second is amazing. The acoustic stuff is especially surreal sounding.

How could people not love Opeth? Are they so insecure they can't bear to be subjected to people so much more talented than themselves!!??

Those fools!!!!!!

It's impossible not to. The band has something for every type of music fan. I've showed the band to many of my friends and most of them are not metal fans in any way. Since I'm a band geek (and most of my friends are too), they know to respect the band for their high level of musical proficiency.

This really hot girl I know is now a really big Opeth fan thanks to me. I showed her "Hope Leaves" and "Bleak" and she's been asking me for copies of their CDs ever since. :)

Toaster 03-05-2006 07:57 PM

Recently Opeth have been called very overrated and untr00. People say that there are similar bands that are far better, but I have yet to hear a band top Opeth at what they do.

The only reason that people say that Opeth are untr00 is because they've recently gained a high level of popularity and exposure. As soon as something becomes well known in the metal scene most idiots start to say that it isn't cool anymore, even though the band still continues to pump out some of the world's greatest albums at the moment.

100% Agreed.

I just don't understand how, for example, on people on Metal Archives will just hate Opeth, criticize them to the utmost. It's okay to dislike a band or whatever, but there are just some things you can't deny. Opeth write a mean song, Mikael's voice is insane, they're competent musicians.. what's not to like?

Oh my god, I couldn't believe the stupidity I saw on the metal archive forums. Do they always refer to metalcore as mallcore?

Shadows 03-05-2006 08:21 PM

I've come to realize that the reviewers on metal archives are ****ing idiots. I don't listen to a word they say anymore. I only contribute my own reviews to adjust the average rating for an album to what I think it should be.

Exactly. I'm the same way. :)

OMG FLYNN, FRAGMENTS OF UNBECOMING OWN SO HARD.

I'm listening to their newly released song and it's SOOOO good.
