Cain, have you looked in the beginner questions section of the guitar forum tonight?
A guy wanted songs to impress people (read: women) and just like last summer, almost all of the posts were guys who have an extremely low opinion of non-musicians. I wonder why you, myself, and a handful of others are the only ones who seem to understand the difference between the perspective of a musician and non-musician.
Meh, they'll learn once they get their slaughtered reputations handed to them freshly cooked on a platter. Then they'll rebuild from scratch and do better. Sometimes these young folks need to learn by doing. I also think we do forget how often girls DO respond to such lowbrow suggestions as "play Dashboard Confessional." Let's face it, kids don't always want long, fulfilling relationships. The deeper I get into mine, truth be told, the more I feel they aren't ready for it. It's long, hard work for whatever enjoyment I derive from it. :-/ |
Only a real female can clear that matter up.
Hey Cain! |

Even back before I was a musician, I enjoyed hearing a couple peopel I knew play a few songs I liked on their guitars, but it was when they started blues improv that I was really impressed. The problem is that although the person is smart, people are stupid. Stupid people seem to assume everyone else in the world is even dumber than them. Ultimately, I don't know why I bother to do anything other than laugh at those people, though. I have my doubts whether or not they'll ever learn, and that's probably for the best. |
Yeah, they lobbied or something to have us stop making fun of them.
Last time I checked this was musicianforums, but whatever. Tonight really blew, I locked my myself out of my truck when I was at work. I didn't find out about until three hours after I got too work, and the enigne was still running. We had a massive rush, bigger then an average weekend rush, and had to work through it on a skeleton staff. Too top it all off, I am getting no poon tonight. |
It was disappointing if you compare it to the older ones (at least the ones with Peter Sellers), but I basically tried not to relate them.
I pretty much thought it'd be an entertaining thing to watch, which obviously wouldn't stand up to it's predecessor so there's little point even thinking about it (like Sgt Bilko), and I'm glad you, having seen it, seem to think the same. |
A disconcerting start to any day.
What's it on? |
It's going quite well. My Modern Philosophy module has been just brilliant (combination of high quality lecturer, subject matter and tutor), and Philosophy of Religion is getting better as time goes by, too.
I'm still kind of hoping the same thing will happen with Language, though. Hoping everybody was wrong. |
It doesn't have any particular thinkers on the course, actually. For example, last week we had a lecture/tutorial on Pascal's Wager, but it was just the Wager; we didn't have to read anything more than excerpts by Pascal himself. So it's just about the ideas, rather than the philosophers. It's full title is 'Philosophy of Religion: The God Question II" (carrying on from the required Intro to.. course from first year), so I suppose that makes sense.
I'm not sure if I'd prefer it to concentrate on a few particular guys or not. Most of my favourite modules I've done so far (Theoretical, Political and Modern Philosophy) have done that, but this Religion module has actually turned out to tie in quite well with the Epistemology that I did last year, and the Modern Philosophy (Leibniz) which I'm doing this year. So I don't know. Not sure what you mean by the traditional stuff, but you rarely talk about a specific religion. Language is notoriously the most torturous subject offered. I was basically warned about it by everyone who bothered to mention it. But it was a choice between that and continuing Logic, and since I hadn't much enjoyed logic (though ironically it turned out to be the thing I did best in last year) I though I'd try the alternative. So far though it's just pretty much been Logic, again :-/ |
Good morning.
I'm at college doing an essay I should have done 3 weeks ago :-\
Gah, I hate the feeling when you know you should have done the essay but can't be bothered. |
Theory teacher isn't here...posting in school. Woooo.
I think I managed to blow up the computer too... |
I have to go check out ANOTHER potential band for me to be in tonight. Its funny, cause i jammed with the bassist last summer. The only time i was over there, his friggin mom backed into my Mazda
i didnt charge em nuffin |
Gah, I hate the feeling when you know you should have done the essay but can't be bothered.
yup, only instead of essay put studying for a test or exams. I felt so guilty about this when I was at school. Now I feel guilty for the time I wasted and for the classes I didnt skip  |

I hate the feeling of having work you can't be bothered to do. At least when it hangs over your head you can decieve yourself into thinking it isn't that important. When you literally can't be bothered is when the guilt comes in. :(
On that note, I've been doing a lot more reading for my assignments. This week was "The Shipping News" by Annie Proulx, "War and Peace" by Tolstoy and "Don Juan" by Lord Byron. Good stuff. |
Good old Byron.
I always find I work better when I have no reason to. |
i just finished reading "the shining"
I love that book possibly one of my all time favorites |
jamming with a new prospective band. I guarentee if this turns out to be a bust, im DONE for at least 3 months

Good luck with that, man. |
Good luck with that, man.
haha thanks. I have yet to go to a "tryout" where they havent called me back. I guess the hard thing really is finding WHAT you want, and then figureing out how to get to that point where you can be happy |
Yeah, man, before I joined my band I was jamming with a few people and al anyone wanted to do was play metalcore or anything similar to what was popular. I just wanted to play metal that I loved, not anything that'd get me signed in a week because we could be the next big thing. When I joined Without a Trace, I was so damn excited, because the other guys were all about playin' old school metal, but their songs sounded a bit simple...but we've evolved a LOT. It takes patience, man. It's been half a year, but we've been playin' shows like crazy and recording an EP...it's crazy to see where we were when they first started out to where we're headed right now. Pretty cool stuff. Hopefully you'll find a band that you could play what you want and love doin' it.
|
those are some inspiring words bro, seriously. Yea i try to remain hopeful in this elusive search for a band that fits my needs, so to speak. After getting shot down (that was involuntary) so many times, its hard not to lose hope.
if these guys dont work out, ill probably just work my arse off to a point where I can try to start my own thing from scratch i guess |
Yeah I hear ya. Hopefully you'll get as lucky as me and you'll end up playing some big shows with some big bands (we're playin' with The Autumn Offering on March 31st)..:p
|
wow, not sure what that is, but it sounds impressive haha
|
I have fallen in love with Nevermore...
|
I think my band isn't going anywhere. The drummer and bassist still havent even come to practice. It's hard getting dedicated people.
|
I broke a string on my Ibanez :( This is my first Floyd Rose and I've never changed a string before... This is going to take some time.
|
I broke a string on my Ibanez :( This is my first Floyd Rose and I've never changed a string before... This is going to take some time.
Man, that sucks, I know how you feel there..I still can't change strings on a Floyd, I usually have a friend do it :p I'm lazy like that. |
Don't worry, it's not difficult. Tuning takes longer than anything on a Floyd Rose.
|
Yeah, I think I'll take it to the guitar shop tomorrow. They know what they're doing.
|
Aaaaaawwww, you can do it. It really isn't tough at all. I figured it out on my own the first time I broke one. Just clip off the ball end of the string, stick it into the string saddle, tighten down the block, and wind it like you would a normal guitar.
Eh, on second thought, that sounds pretty confusing... |
I have fallen in love with Nevermore...
yea, most arrive at this apiffany. Some just after others |
yea, most arrive at this apiffany. Some just after others
*Epiphany I'm starting to like them more and more, but not nearly as much as some people. |
nevermores alright but something about the singing ruins it
|
at first, it was all about loomis, and i didnt like the vocals. Now it seems if they would have chosen ANY one else, i wouldnt like it as much...
and yes, i cant spell. apparently EVERYONE isnt aware of that  |
nevermores alright but something about the singing ruins it
That's exactly how I feel about them too... I don't know, it's just a factor that doesn't really fit imo. NP: Ceremonial Oath - For I Have Sinned |
I hated Dane's voice at first, and still do in some places. It's an acquired taste, I guess.
Some songs he absolutely slays on...mainly their ballads, I think. Sentient 6, Who Decides, Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday, and the ilk. And why does everybody hate Enemies Of Reality? I love that album... |
...why does everybody hate Enemies Of Reality? I love that album...
Me too, it's a great album. I still haven't bought the new one yet though

Okay, after a week of barely touching my guitar, I desperately need to start playing hours a day again. Now I've been challenged to learn this Petrucci solo in a month.
|
The first Nevermore song I heard was Dreamong Neon Black..well one of the first. Great song.
I need to get into more Nevermore. |
