Night Frank.

I believe we are doing Trooper first, then either ATSS or Blood Brothers.

Do we even have a Bassist?

ashman 09-24-2005 11:37 AM

Ok then, that's the plan. I've already done the Trooper, I just need to work my magic on it (and redo the solo, it was really bad :upset: ).

no it won't, just mic your amp

EDIT: does anyone have any objections to me tweaking H's solo in the Trooper slightly?

Deth 09-24-2005 01:33 PM

I can try recording tomorrow. I'm going out today, so there.

crag 09-24-2005 01:44 PM

Deth 09-24-2005 01:46 PM

mat i record with you? :p

the_uber_penguin 09-24-2005 03:33 PM

So: for the Iron Maiden (MXaiden...???) tribute band we have:

Bruce: me
Nicko: Chris
Janick:Andy
Adiran:Crag
Dave:Ash
Steve: Creepin.
Eddy: Frank

I'll start learning the Trooper, and get Chris to record drums for it while you guys argue over solos.

Meanwhile, can you all post your e-mail (so I can send parts to you) and the town you live in (to see if we live close enough to anywhere to actually attempt a gig :) )

Oh, and they postponed the DotR DVD again

It's now out October 24th in the UK.

(EDIT: What is ATSS...I looked and thought but can't work out which song it is. The closest I can get is All The Small Things, but that's by the wrong band!)

the_uber_penguin 09-24-2005 05:03 PM

I'll try and get the drums recorded sometime this week. I don't think Chris has learnt the drums for the Trooper, but I have told him we ought to cover it in our other band (Suicidal Ducklings - punk rock outfit)...he vetoed it though...it's not punk enough.

andyhainey 09-24-2005 05:05 PM

i wanna know how to actually record, i was gonna do it at ma friends house, coz he knew how, but he's away this week so.....can you tell me how to do it uber?

the_uber_penguin 09-24-2005 05:25 PM

Depends what you've got. The way I'd do it would be plug a microphone into the microphone jack on your computer, then put it in front of your amp with the effects set up right. That way you can hear it the way the computer does.

As for software, use Audacity: here and this plug-in.
Once you get the drum track, open Audacity, go

Project -> Import Audio

and select the drum track from the hard drive.

Then make sure you've set up properly and press the red circle near the top and play your part. If you make a mistake you can stop it and delete the track easily. If you find going to one part difficult (i.e. the solo) record everything apart from it, then use the same method to get the solo.

When you've finished, find the solo button on each track, and select your parts with it. This is so you only send your part back, and not a mixed version of everything...it means I fiddle around with levels saving you lot the bother.

When you press the green triangle you should only hear the parts you've recorded. Then select:

File -> Export as MP3

The first time it does this it will come up with an error message. You just need to find the file in the second download (lame_enc.dll) in the box that should come up and it will work fine.

You'll then have an mp3 of your part. E-mail it back to me and I'll mix it in with the drums.
