I'm onlu about 1,000 posts behind.
Do you really have such a big thing against clean vocals?

LordDargon 01-12-2005 01:39 PM

*1800 posts behind

Yes, yes I do.

munky_magik 01-12-2005 01:41 PM

Oh yea, My math isn't so good these days. I haven't done it for about 3 years.
I'm guessing that you used to like them, but just progressed away from them?

jpj 01-12-2005 01:43 PM

Power Metal is pretty much the only type of metal I can stand becasue they don't use harsh vocals. I like Haggard too, though at first the growling kinda got to me.

Yes indeedy. Now they remind me too much of radio-rock.

Rasta Rocker 01-12-2005 01:52 PM

Anyone else see those Jamster commercials? The ones for all the **** they'll send for your cell phone, ring tones, backgrounds, sound effects. Whos idea was that? All of their stuff is ****ty, it pisses me off how they try to pass their ****ty merchandise off as cool.

I much prefer them to growled vocals and the likes. I imagine that eventually I'll follow the same progression but I think it's still a while off.

LordDargon 01-12-2005 02:02 PM

 I don't even notice growls anymore. Today when I was listening to some NYDM (new york death metal) albums that I'd listened to many times before, it hit me how deep the growls were. Your standard moron wouldn't even notice the music for the growls.

Moron's right enough as the music is usually superb.

Iron Man 01-12-2005 02:08 PM

Kinda weird how so many people are turned off by growls. I remember the first time I heard a song with DM growls. I thought it was ****in' cool.

munky_magik 01-12-2005 02:10 PM

Each to their own I guess, some people just don't like that stuff.
Each to their own I guess, some people just don't like that stuff.
Yeah. After about 5 months, growls/shrieks don't phase me anymore. But I can see how people wouldn't like them. Especially non-metalheads.

(On a sort of related note, I'm so glad I found this site when I did, or else I'd probably still be listening to lame music.)

I think that after you get over the initial shock of hearing them, the more you listen to it the more likely you are to like it.
And these forums are a great gateway to new bands, which is one of the reasons why I love them.

Congrats on your 2000th post :thumb:

Agreed on the gateway thing. Soon after I started looking around the boards in July, I ordered Blackwater Park, and it sort of snowballed from there.

jpj 01-12-2005 02:27 PM

Same here, this site introduced to almost all of my favorite bands.

munky_magik 01-12-2005 02:30 PM

That's why keeping the forums in proper order is so important. If they just descended into anarchy then they would be no use at all and people wouldn't find out anything 'cept "lolz Kirckk Hamitte is The Rockorzerz lolzz!111111!"

Iron Man 01-12-2005 02:33 PM
"lolz Kirckk Hamitte is The Rockorzerz lolzz!111111!"
Funny thing is, that's exactly what I thought before I came here.
Funny thing is, that's exactly what I thought before I came here.
at least you don't think it anymore. I mean if you like Hammett then it's fair enough but proclaiming him the best guitarist in the world etc... is just fucking stupid.

LordDargon 01-12-2005 02:37 PM

I was already into good music when I came here, although I have these forums to thank for Lykathea Aflame!

I've heard so many good things about them. I need to find somewhere to pick up Elvenefris quick! :(

RiceMonster 01-12-2005 03:37 PM

Yep, I wouldn't be listening to so many of my favourite bands without this forum.

munky_magik 01-12-2005 04:01 PM

here's to MX :chug:

Arucard 01-12-2005 04:01 PM

Me neither. Judging by your user title, you've been playing some online games EVH. All of the 'good' players call themselves l33t when i played SOAF. Also alot of tango down, bish bish.

RiceMonster 01-12-2005 04:15 PM

Yep  It bugs the hell out of me. I can't even enjoy the game they bug me so much.

This forum is great for broadening your tastes.
For one, I'd never heard of Dream Theater before I came to MX

:chug:

Arucard 01-12-2005 04:21 PM

Me neither, or Arsis, or Bodom the list goes on.
What game you play EVH?

thommotitanium 01-12-2005 04:23 PM

i agree

RiceMonster 01-12-2005 04:28 PM
What game you play EVH?
I played Diablo 2, with the expansion pack for a while, then I quit because I got sick of all the "l33t" players. I've also played Counter Strike at my freinds, and he plays another game... the name won't come to me at the moment. He talks about the games a lot.

Edit: Runescape was the game I'm thinking of.

Rasta Rocker 01-12-2005 04:30 PM

Counter Strike rules, I love that game...but don't mix me with a compute nerd! There isn't really a problem with people doing all the l337 H4X0RZZZ LOL stuff...I would reccomend buying it...it's a fun thing to do when you're grounded or something

Burdcheese 01-12-2005 04:31 PM

1337 players are the scourge of internet gaming.
They completely take the fun out of it for the more casual gamer like myself.
