I rip all my cds in 128 kbps just for the sake of keeping the files at a reasonable size. I never noticed any faulty quality with 128kbps, although now I'm going to A/B some death metal song in 128kbps with one in 320kbps and see how much better it sounds.

After conducting that experiment I could hear the difference between the two bit rates but it wasn't drastic enough for me to want to convert all of my songs to 320kbps.

You wouldn't be able to convert them to 320 anyway unless you re-ripped/downloaded them.

Well, a converter would technically let you convert them, but yea, the information that was removed before is completely irreplaceable...so I wonder what the converter thinks it's doing...

you can't up-convert bitrates it isnt possible you cant add sound that wasn't there.

That was my point. But like I said, a converter will let you do it and act like it's doing something. Hence my question, what the hell does it think it's doing, because it can't do it, it's impossible.
