yes, i do need two messenger services, and it blows because i prefer MSN so much to AIM. Reason i need two is because every single american i am friends with back in the states uses AIM, but conversley every single european friend i have made since being in germany uses MSN.

Silly americans, while we do somethings right, when it comes to instant messaging, they have it all wrong, AIM < MSN.
I live in England and I have also noticed that Europeans have MSN and Americans have AIM. MSN > AIM

Apocalyptic Raids 06-25-2005 06:13 AM

Trillian > all messenger programs.

You should check it out abortion, it lets you sign into AIM, MSN, ICQ and use IRC all at once.

It has MSN, AIM, ICQ and YIM on it and no one uses ICQ and only MX bassists use YIM

Bartender 06-25-2005 06:37 AM

Morning all.
Even though AH has done that on many occasions before. Everyone has, I know that. But for him to counteract it, and say "Guys, cut down on spam in here," when he has "spammed" just as much as anyone else, even in the last community thread, is kind of out of context.
Point out where he, or I, or anyone else asking you not to spam, has said "I've never spammed, so you shouldn't either" and I'll accept your point. The point is that we've cut down on unacceptable posting and spamming in this thread.
Already? That seems a ridiculously short length of time.
Well it's just been re-checked, and now it looks like it finishes on Wednesday, which is still a bit short :(

As for all the Family Guy/Simpsons/etc discussion, I love the Simpsons, and Family Guy, and Futurama. I don't really see the need to constantly compare them, but at the same time I'm getting more annoyed with people who keep dismissing the Simpsons as nothing compared to all the shows that followed them. All good shows, basically.

Dane Cook sucks.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-25-2005 06:40 AM

I was never a huge fan of Futurama. I like what I have seen of the Family Guy, although they only showed the first season, then took it off the air here in Australia.

Gaim is far superior to trillian in every way. I had trillian for a while because of my multiple messaging program needs, and once i made the switch to Gaim i never even thought about touching trillian again.

Well, at least you still got to do it. Did you have to do it in front of a class, or was it just you and a teacher?
Just me and the teacher. /late

Bartender 06-25-2005 07:39 AM

How did it go?

Riva 06-25-2005 07:44 AM

Just read all the post up until this point. Good stuff. Unfortunately, it wasted most of the time I had designated to being on here. :p
Just me and the teacher. /late
Ah, cool. I hate doing presentations in front of large audiences. Nervousness just comes by and swings a sledge at my kneecaps. :(
Just read all the post up until this point. Good stuff. Unfortunately, it wasted most of the time I had designated to being on here. :p
Yeah, I find that's happened to me quite a lot recently too. Suddenly realise I've been on nearly half an hour and all I've done so far is check Site, or something.

I've also just realised recently that I haven't bought any new albums for quite a while, now.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-25-2005 07:57 AM

RCA: I used to hate it. I don't mind so much anymore.

superpeer 06-25-2005 08:02 AM

It went alright, I think. It was weird, my translation was so weird, none of the sentences seemed to connect to eachother. But the professor was still like "Yes", "Yeah", "Hmm, yes, go on"...

So I think it was ok. I'm just glad they didn't make a problem out of the lateness.

Also, I hate oral exams, but not as much as oral presentations, that's a fact. Usually oral exams go better, for some reason, though.

RCA 06-25-2005 08:02 AM
RCA: I used to hate it. I don't mind so much anymore.
Yeah, it kinda gets better if you do them more through the year because you get comfortable with your audience. I still get nervous before them anyways.

superpeer 06-25-2005 08:04 AM

Well, I've been invited to a family meeting. Not my family, my girlfriend's, so I'm off. <-<

I always hated oral exams the most, too. I was always really good in them, though.

Enjoy meeting whatever family it is you're meeting.

gah german. after being in this country for a year i cant wait to get back to the US and not have to speak german for a while. English is better by far, because i understand it a lot more easily haha.

I really like German, and not just because it was one of my best subjects in school. I suppose I've never had to spend a year in Germany, though.

Riva 06-25-2005 08:36 AM

Well, I just uploaded three tracks for Alex's Voivod thread, so make sure you check them out. I'm sorry I didn't get to make it onto MSN, Bartender, but I really must be getting to bed. I only came on at this late hour to check my emails, etc. (I didn't have the oppurtunity today).

GurS 06-25-2005 08:37 AM

So, I have to make a decision:

I currently do Politics, Music, Drama and English Literature. I have three choices:

A) Drop one (which is what most people do, as the subjects get harder from here on in)
B) Drop one and do Economics for a year (which will help me get a deeper understanding of Politics, which is what I hope to do at university. However, it's meant to be very hard, and I don't know who much I'm gonna like the course)
C) Keep doing all four (which will be good for my university applications, as the unis I have my eye one are all pretty much top unis).

help?

NP: The Snakefish - The Groove Machine

NJMetalMeister 06-25-2005 08:38 AM

Well what happens is you get here, and you are all like gung ho must learn german for the first 2 months. Then once you start feeling confident enough to speak german all the time, it actually becomes much more difficult because what happens is the germans hear your accent is from an english speaking country and just have to show off their english to you. So it becomes frustrating to try and speak german and learn german because everyone is liek "oh youre an american, look at how good my english is!" (or in your case they would be like "Oh youre from the UK, look at how good my english is!")

Fun language when you can actually speak it and get your point across though

GurS 06-25-2005 08:42 AM

12ounces, could you do me favour? I've got this passage in German and I have no idea what it means

Do you thoroughly enjoy all the classes you named above? If not, I would drop the one and do economics so that you have a head start when you get into a university. If you do enjoy all of your classes - and you think you could handle it - do all four! It can always help NOT to drop a class and pick up another one, but the question really is, do you think you'd be ok doing that? Economics is no easy bit, from what I've heard.

NJMetalMeister 06-25-2005 08:43 AM

sure ill give it a go, i need to run to the supermarket real quick or else im not eating for the rest of the weekend hahaha (they are closed here on sundays), but you can post it here, or just IM it to me over MSN or AIM, either or is fine with me, ill be back half hour tops

My advice then, don't drop. :D I don't know about you, but if I were in your shoes, I would definately try to balance one more class than to drop music class. But thats just me.

Riva 06-25-2005 08:48 AM

Do all four. I have the choice of doing three or four subjects a semester. I do four science/engineering/maths subjects a semester, and suck it up when the going gets tough. Basically, your boss once you leave school won't say:
"Look Sam, I'm going to give you three tasks to do, but if you don't want to do the second one, just leave it be; it's okay. Can I get you more milk for your tea?"

Well I dropped one when I went from lower to upper sixth; I think pretty much everyone except the guys who were taking Further Maths just carried on with three instead of four, in my school. I don't know how tactical that was though; it was just the normal way.

HOHE LIEBE

(Ludwig Uhland)

In Liebesarmen ruht ihr trunken,
Des Lebens Frücte winken euch;
Ein Blick nur ist auf mich gesunken,
Doch bin ich vor euch allen reich

Das Glück der Erde miß ich gerne
Und blick, ein Märtyrer, hinan,
Denn uber mir, in goldner Ferne,
Hat sich der Himmel aufgetan

If you don't mind, could you also do these two?

SELIGER TOD

(Ludwig Uhland)

Gerstorben war ich
Vor Liebeswonne;
Begraben lag ich
In ihren Armen;
Erwecket ward ich
Von ihren Küssen;
Den Himmel sah ich
In ihren Augen

O LIEB, SO LANG DU LIEBEN KANNST

(Ferdinand Freiligrath)

O lieb, so lang du lieben kannst,
O lieb, so lang du lieben magst,
Die stunde kommt, die Stunde kommt,
Wo du an Gräben stehst und klagst.

Und sorge, daß dein Herze glüht
Und Liebe hegt und Liebe trägt,
So lang ihm noch ein andres Herz
In Liebe warm entgegenschlägt

Und wer dir seine Brust erschließt,
O tu ihm, was du kannst, zulieb
Und mach ihm jede Stunde froh
Und mach ihm keine Stunde trub!

Und hüte deine Zunge wohl:
Bald ist ein hartes Worst entflohn,
O Gott, es war nicht bös gemeint,
Der andre aber geht und weint.

O lieb, so lang du lieben kannst,
O lieb, so lang du lieben magst,
Die stunde kommt, die Stunde kommt,
Wo du an Gräben stehst und klagst.
