I dont see how one could argue the fact that at higher tempos and higher levels of drumming and intrument/vocal distortion, the amount of clarity is already reduced no matter how good a producer or his equipment is...Again, when compared with slow to mid-paced tempo songs.

stop that. Seriously, learn about what you're talking about. You're just spewing **** right now. |
So why dont you enlighten me since you have yet to do so.
I forgot you're an expert when it comes to this. Go ahead, the floor is yours. |
Higher bitrate = You hear more of the music and the sound is produced in a much fuller way. It's pretty much common sense. If you decide to not be dumb forever read through this a bit:

Exactly. But what he's trying to say is since there is so much more audio information, death metal tends to sound worse when compressed then something like rap, which has less audio information that can be removed during lossy compression. You two need to quit being dicks to each other. There's a way to discuss things intelligently. |
Im talking about the initial recording and then being compressed into a lower bitrate...wow.
to ghoul Im glad we're on the same page Val |
Be careful how you throw around the term bitrate, especially when talking about the initial recording. Bit Rate (or Bit Depth) is a completely different thing in digital recording.
Just FYI. |

Most hip hop needs a very good quality and bit rate to be good. I'm just a dick because he never has anything of quality to say.
Most hip hop needs a very good quality and bit rate to be good.
Any kind of music does. But I'm not going to fight that battle; I've already been flamed for that one here. I'm just saying that in the rap and death metal I have listened to, both squashed to hell, the death metal takes the brunt of it. That's just my experience, and I attributed it to those characteristics. But realistically, no music needs to be compressed that much (or at all; I'd rather ban mp3s altogether). MP3 was originally designed for Film audio, to be able to fit on the film with the visual. However, I'm going to get out of this now, because like I said, here I have no ally in the music quality battle. (Besides you, to a certain extent.) |
I'm listening to Winds Of Creation right now in 128 kbs.
It sounds just fine. Granted I prefer 192, but not all 128 rips sound bad. You may have had a heavily transcoded version BRA. |

You looked it up on wikipedia and then posted the link. The initial argument was due to miscommunication. We just thought the opposite of what the other meant. |

They teach you in recording school to keep in mind what format (and kinds of speakers) most kids are going to be listening to the music in, and also to mix it with that in mind. I don't think many engineers do, though. |

Josh, why can't we be lovers?
|
Meh, I never really notice in what bitrate the music i download is.
|
You'll notice it when it sounds like ****. Or if you're listening on good monitors.
Or if you spend 8 hours in class in a studio being told what to look/listen for and hearing it. |

Im pretty sure Val cleared that up and he knew what I was getting at as well, so you must be just as stupid. But I am happy that you've been here for so long. You even have over 5x the posts I do. I truely am in awe. |
a lot of metal, especially death, sounds bad at 128 kbps. especially if the drummer does a lot of cymbal work

I've been listening to Monstrosity's Millennium and I really like it except for the fact the vocals are a tad crappy

You should probably listen to some of their good albums.
