I think I want an HTC HD2. They look pretty good. I'm put off the iPhone by the wank battery life reports I'm getting from people.
I've experienced the same thing about their iPods, and the lack of replaceable battery is an even bigger turn-off. I'm looking into the Palm Pre myself, because it runs on a linux OS and has a familiar, comfortable Blackberry-style keyboard. |
My Zune had 3 and a half hours battery life by the time I got rid of it for an iPod Classic. The iPod is much easier to manage and lasts me about 3 days without needing to recharge, and I use it about 6 hours a day.
The Zune sounds better and goes louder though ^_^ |
I never run out of my battery life for my iPod. I charge it every night, but I've never had the battery die on me.
As for volume, I listen to music as quietly as possible with headphones because I fear for my hearing. |
It's worth being careful with headphones for sure. People spend a lot of time worrying about concert volume levels and rehearsals and things which is great but you've also got to look out for those speakers you're sneaking into your ears for far greater lengths of time.
|
People who put their iPods on full volume right in their ears are just asking to go deaf very young.
As a musician, I can't be so stupid with my hearing. |
Indeed.
Most of them aren't musicians though so it's less of an issue but if you care about preserving your hearing it's sensibility every day, earplugs every gig and rehearsal, otherwise, hearing damage. |
Even if I didn't play music I wouldn't be so careless. Blasting music in your ears is the equivalent of staring at the sun.
|
They are both bad ideas yes.

It's actually the isolated vibrations traveling directly to your eardrums that prove to be the biggest risk factor. Headphones are considerably better for your ears than earbuds. |

correct. earbuds are really bad for you. headphones are much better, listening to music blasting on a stereo is fine as well. its the frequencies that can fit "into" your ears that matter (10k+) - IE you can't really go deaf from live shows where the loudest frequencies are 200 and lower unless you're going like everyday with no earplugs i wear earplugs at work and people make fun of me but i also have a mohawk and they make fun of me for that too k when i give a **** what ya think homie ill let ya know |
i have lots of wax buildup in my ears. i got them cleaned a while ago and the nurse basically pulled out two footballs of wax. i have pics on my phone. it felt like giving birth. he said i have the record for largest earcrap ever pulled out in 1 piece.

Enjoy life more and man up. :thumb: |
beethoven symphonies sucked until he started going deaf
|
You are a ****ing idiot.
Hearing damage is irreversible, you really do need to be careful. It has nothing to do with how tough you think you are, and protecting my hearing has never diminished my enjoyment of a gig. If you want to go deaf though, that's fine, more power to you. |

I love his later stuff. The way everything just falls apart and gets really dissonant and stuff. |
Meh, I have my iPod on full volume all the time, but full volume on the iPod is the equivalent of about where I used to listen on my Zune (about two thirds volume), so I don't think it's really that loud. I wear plugs for gigs though.
|

You're silly. |

wtf? pics or lies. My doc calls them ear potatoes. I'm not even sure how they build up, but I'm kind of jealous that I don't have any. Something tells me that pulling them out would be such a relieving feeling. |
Yeah I've never had ear wax removed.
Except when it comes out on my earplugs, gotta wash those puppies. |
Yeah I've never had ear wax removed.

The drummer in my band just got some ear plugs made. He says that the difference is amazing from regular ones to these musician type ear plugs.
|
Yeah, fitted earplugs are the best. I am still saving for mine :(.
I'm weighing up new gig bag vs audiologist fitted plugs, I know it has to be earplugs but I really want a new gig bag. Well, I really want two new gig bags but that doesn't help any. |

Currently, it's $150 at the audiologist for a set of ear plugs. After socialized healthcare takes over, though, I'm hoping I can get it for cheaper. |
I think around here mine will run me $250-$400 but I need to make fresh investigations. One of the gig bags I want would set me back $300 and the other one I haven't even priced for import yet.

My friend got his ear plugs for $200.
Do they ever need to be replaced? |
My friend got his ear plugs for $200.
Do they ever need to be replaced?
I'm sure they do over time, but it's probably all dependent upon how well you take care of them and how often you use them. Also, since the ear mold is already on file from the first pair, subsequent pairs will likely be cheaper. |
Yeah, fitted plugs are so much better. The difference is unreal. I think it cost me like £160 or something, but totally worth it.
|
Man you guys are getting robbed. I paid like 110NZD for mine. Which came with two filters (-12 and -15). I got a special price cause of my school, but even then they're normally 150.
And all your guys currency's are worth more than my poor country's lol. |
Seeing as you pay more for a lot of other things, I think it evens out ;)
