They actually had a gig in New York at Born Too Late festival. It was funny, a few months before the fest came up he announced Rain would be taking over, and considering the festival was planned like 8 months ahead of time I still thought Tom would sing it (considering the fact they haven't preformed in years, Tom could have at least gave all his dedicated fans the privilege of seein him preform one last time) but Rain actually had did vocals for the live festival.

A real shame.

What's up guys? I don't know how I haven't made it over to this thread before, I should feel right at home in here. Anyone digging some Mar De Grises from Chile? I actually just found them last night, and I've been listening like crazy. Quality!

rasputin 09-23-2009 08:50 AM

theyre all right - i listened to their taterdemalion express or whatever it was called a few times, but their later release was pretty boring

Blanka Flip 09-23-2009 09:09 AM

Are you referring to Draining the Waterheart? I think it's new? I don't know, but I've heard two songs from it, and think it's pretty brilliant!

Txus 09-23-2009 09:13 AM

i thnk both Mar de Grises releases are really damn solid, extremely good band.

As for OM I think they are really good but yeah people tend to jizz all over them because of Al.

Blanka Flip 09-23-2009 09:32 AM

OM, AI? Hook me up!

DanContogiannis 09-23-2009 10:57 AM

Any of you guys like Weedeater? Saw 'em opening for Down & Voivod last week, never listened to 'em before but they were great.

Countorus 09-23-2009 11:01 AM

theyre alright

Hell yeah, they are one of my favorite sludge bands.

Phototropic 09-23-2009 12:03 PM

chuffed 09-23-2009 12:04 PM

Txus 09-23-2009 12:04 PM

everybody should do themselves a favor and become across tundras fans

Blanka Flip 09-24-2009 12:23 AM

Sounds like a Discovery Channel show! Nevertheless, I'll check it out at some point.

Nepenthe 09-24-2009 12:25 AM

a show about discovering ****ing awesome sounds that form music

Bleekill 09-24-2009 07:52 AM

I remember listening to them a while ago, i need to rediscover them.

Txus 09-24-2009 10:59 AM

The Shrinebuilder promo leaked, I'm waiting for the real copy to give it a really good listen though. It's missing the last track.

Bleekill 09-24-2009 12:30 PM

Sweet also the new Doomriders leaked idk if that has been mentioned anywhere yet.

Txus 09-24-2009 12:40 PM

Yeah, all over the Metalcore thread. How did you like it? I think it's their best work yet.

Blanka Flip 09-24-2009 01:04 PM

I've read the new Katatonia is supposed to be their best yet. Mike from Opeth commented that they all got together to listen to the masters, and it chilled him to the bone. I'd expect pretty good things from those guys soon, especially while they're building on their last effort.

Nepenthe 09-24-2009 01:14 PM

there is no way any band, let alone katatonia themselves, could ever top dance of december souls

also, i just found out the guy from nadja can make enjoyable music. listening to his whisper room project right now.

Blanka Flip 09-24-2009 01:24 PM

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm still looking forward to it. They seem to have found a new stride they haven't had in a while.

Txus 09-24-2009 01:31 PM

I haven't been disappointed by Aidan Baker yet.

His album with Tim Hecker is perfect, seriously.

Nepenthe 09-24-2009 01:35 PM

idk most everything nadja puts out is underwhelming but this album shows alot of potential

Txus 09-24-2009 01:35 PM

Well I'm talking about Aidan Baker's album with Tim Hecker not Nadja. And most Baker's solo stuff is better than any Nadja imo.

Angmar 09-24-2009 03:20 PM

Can't get enough of While Heaven Wept lately, Of Empires Forlorn is great.

Bleekill 09-24-2009 04:35 PM

Yeah Darkness Comes alive is for sure their best work. Lions is so amazing.

Nostalgia 09-24-2009 11:58 PM

Get Chapter 1. Empires is good but it's more symphonic and not Tom's best vocal work - Chapter 1 is a summary of all their early material and perhaps is the best album in doom metal. Seriously, La Mort D'amour has some of the best lyrics, as does The Mourning. Both are my favorite songs.

Tyler 09-25-2009 12:00 AM

ive never heard while heaven wept but i just got some promo thing from them so i guess i'll check them out
