I'm listenin' to Beginnings right now. The Allman Brothers are so great. Everything about them. They take common boring Blues patterns and make them exciting. Like Dickey Betts and the Pentatonic scale. Sooo good.
Betts is the King (crowned by guitar magazine) of the Pentatonic scale.
I thought I was the first to say that a few months ago. :(
Why'd Miik leave? He would have joined this convo.
classic rock owned my soul for a while, but i'm into metal now so most of what i listen to on headphones or on any cd player is metal but i still fall asleep every night to my local classic rock station, so i guess you could say my interest in music owns my sould, i'm obsessed!
Holy ****, DigitalDreamDoor has Bootsy Collins at #11 on their greatest bassists list.
They are officially cool |
Then again, they have crap lists for the best albums of the 70's and 80's, so maybe not.
I hate posting on R&M because you all let the threads get so stupidly long.
And I like classic rock. |
I hate posting on R&M because you all let the threads get so stupidly long.
And I like classic rock.
i also like classic rock! i have an allman brothers album but for some reason i never got passed the first song. im gonna give it another listen. i hear a lot of people compare them to skynard. i dont wanna make a 'whos better' thing, cuz badmoon always gets angry, but honestly, is allman brothers worth listening to over skynard? |
they are both worth listening to at different times for different reasons.
if you have the CD just sitting there you should definitely give it a spin. |
I have always thought that the Allman Brothers Band was better than Skynyrd.
The Allman Brothers play a more "Raw" form of Blues. While L.S. play a more "Funny" type.
LS is better than The Allman Brothers IMO.

well its a record...i dont own any cds. and my record player is downstairs. i heard good things about the song Whipping Post, which is on the record. if it wasnt almost my bedtime i would go listen. |
What album?
If "Whipping Post" is on it, it's either the debut self-titled album or "Beginnings". Or "Live at Fillmore East".
i will run down and see what album it is.
oh god my parents had a party last night and i have my whole record collection (about 600) in alphabetical order and all my parents friends threw them all around the basement.
and it doesnt have a title apparently, it just has all of them on the front, and if you open it up, they are all sitting naked in water. |
Is the picture on the front in black and white or in color?
i think it was in colour, dont make me go downstairs again.
If it's in color (and, for that matter, has "The Allman Brothers Band" on the cover), then it's the self-titled debut album.
If it's in black and white, it's Live at Fillmore East. |
Whipping post in on Beginings.
edit: or aparently live at filmore east, as well. |
