Ozzy sounds good on that album, other than that his Sabbath singing was fairly crap. his solo stuff isn't too good, but i still like it.
i like the songs but i don't really like his voice.

but Ozzy plays harmonica on The Wizard. which, incidentally, is one of my favourite Ozzy-era Sabbath songs.

meh, Dio-era Sabbath >>>>>>>>> Ozzy-era Sabbath.

Bah, Bruce could play the harmonica if he wanted to

Josh 01-18-2006 03:17 PM
Bah, Bruce could play the harmonica if he wanted to
so could i :p. but Ozzy wasn't ALWAYS that bad. fair enough, he can't sing for shit now, but he was allright on the early Sabbath.

Joey_ 01-18-2006 03:24 PM

I still say Rob Halford is the best metal vocalist ever.

Josh 01-18-2006 03:26 PM
I still say Rob Halford is the best metal vocalist ever.
good, but not the best.

Bruce > Rob.

and according to the Polls a few weeks ago, Bruce is the best metal vocalist ever. he lost to competition by a few votes to Freddie Mercury.

I completely agree. Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillian are the only metal vocalists I can think of that can touch Bruce. I'd actually love to hear Maiden cover some Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio, or Deep Purple. I'd love to hear Bruce take Child in Time or Rainbow In the Dark for a spin.

the_uber_penguin 01-18-2006 06:04 PM

Hmm...I think I'm obsessed.

I plan to do Paschendale next.

Halford > Dickinson

Sorry guys.

rhcp pman 01-19-2006 12:39 AM

IMO Dickinson>Halford

Halford is awesome. But I prefer Dickinson. He simply has everything you could ever want. Many awesome voices and astounding technical ability.

blue3 01-19-2006 12:47 AM

They're both awesome.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-19-2006 02:46 AM

They are both godly, and should never be compared.

Priest are better though >_>

/me runs

Lord Abortion 01-19-2006 04:41 AM

/me stabs.

I love Priest, and Halford is awesome, but, there's just too many albums Priest have released of non-excellent quality.

They have some magnificent stuff, but not enough of a percentage of quality like maiden do.

Here here.

If you wanna post Rob > Bruce, post it in the Judas Priest thread.

But in these lands Bruce rules all.

crag 01-19-2006 10:07 AM

Bruce>Rob

Maiden>Priest

although i like both Halford and Priest

temporary 01-19-2006 02:18 PM

Ok, for the record: Bruce=Dio=Gillian>Rob>Ozzy.

Lord Abortion completely sums up my argument for Maiden vs Preist. Some of Preist's music is increadable, but I cannot listen to anything from British Steel without cringing in pain. I mean its like... Spinal Tap or something.

Josh 01-19-2006 03:02 PM
Dios a fag. Ozzy is the man :thumb:
Ozzy can't sing for shit any more, he was never awesome to start with, Dio's voice is much stronger and he's still great. i want to see him next time he tours.
Ok, for the record: Bruce=Dio=Gillian>Rob>Ozzy.
hmm, i'm not a massive Gillian fan, although he isn't bad. but Dio is definitely as good as Bruce, bar 2 facts: he's not in Maiden. and he can't fly planes.

Lord Abortion 01-19-2006 03:48 PM

Haha, right, Josh.

I really like British steel...but stuff like Defenders of the faith is just mediocre.

yeah i agree sabbath was better with dio and ill even admit too that dio is better than bruce, dio is like the voice of metal man.

Joey_ 01-19-2006 05:09 PM

Rob Halford has a way better range than Bruce Dickinson. He has his low range, mid range (which is totally unique, no other singer even comes close), and his all out scream, like Ressurection off his solo album with the same name. Rob Halford is the undisputed king of metal screams, and if you deny that your ****ing stupid.

I actuallly think that halford and dickinson are extremely similar, they both can get low growls and can both get high notes too

Joey_ 01-19-2006 05:17 PM

Im a huge Maiden fan, and Im also a huge priest fan. Maiden does better guitar work. Priest has better vocals. In my books, they're even. But ive seen both priest and Maiden live and Halford sounds way better.

Yeah but Priest doesn't have Nikko McBrain (better drummer), or steve harris (best bassist ever)

Joey_ 01-19-2006 05:23 PM

Priest has a better live show, Janick Gers prances around like a fag. Amazing guitarist, though.

podbassist 01-19-2006 05:25 PM

I disagree all of iron maiden "prance around" but not like fags. I liked Maiden better when i saw them in concert and it was only a month after i saw priest so its not like i forgot what they were like live

the_uber_penguin 01-19-2006 05:33 PM
I actuallly think that halford and dickinson are extremely similar, they both can get low growls and can both get high notes too
I didn't really like Bruce's low growls a lá NPFTD and FotD albums. They don't suit his voice IMO.

That said, I love what he does with the deep voice on FotD (song) at RiR, and on the start of HBTN.

Bruce definately has the range, but he's far from the best growler and he's not the best screamer I've heard either.

Bloody good singer though. I'm not a fan of growling or screaming.

Joey_ 01-19-2006 06:35 PM

Bruce sound the best on Powerslave.

clairvoyant 01-19-2006 08:03 PM
Bruce sound the best on Powerslave.
I also thought he sounded good on Somewhere In Time, but live from that tour...not so good.

Deth 01-19-2006 08:09 PM

Rob could pull of things that Bruce certainly can't. Not a knock on Brucey, just a compliment for Rob. He's so much more versitile, just listen to Painkiller and then Electric Eye or something. Bruce sings mostly in the same style.

Brucey & Rob > 99.9% of all other singers

ashman 01-19-2006 11:06 PM

Halford = Better Scream and growls

Bruce Bruce = Better 'normal' singer

That's what the conclusion was last time we had this.

Now, onto other Maiden related things...

I'm at that stage where I know every maiden song in known 'verse, I need the new album and I need it know!

rippa32 01-20-2006 03:24 AM

Last time I was in this thread I got recommended the Piece Of Mind album, so I actually bought it and do not regret it at all it is such an awesome album, so thanks. Also how often to Maiden go to Australia for their tours? Im a relatively new fan and would like to see them live, so is it possible for the next album?

Lord Abortion 01-20-2006 03:26 AM

Yeah, they'll tour there.
Halford has a better scream, but Bruce is better at everything else.

rippa32 01-20-2006 04:17 AM

They will? Awesome, are they working on a new album atm?

Josh 01-20-2006 04:57 AM
They will? Awesome, are they working on a new album atm?
i believe it should be ready and released by the summer, at least that was the news posted on maidenfans.com last year. then hopefully a tour starting in the Autumn.

the album's meant to be a concept along the lines of 7th son of the 7th son, which, incidentally, i've been listening to a fair bit lately. i love Only the good die young, especially the bass solo after the first guitar solo. well, more like a really cool independent bassline.
