Oms Flight of the Eagle and Bhimas Theme are absolutely immense, theres a breakdown in the former that is absolutely out of this world.

On the stoner (rock) side of things Fu Manchu are bringing a new album out soon, liked the earlier stuff but they've got a bit wierd with recent releases.

i've got pilgrimage and god is good, which om album should i get next?

Ventriloquist 09-18-2009 09:49 AM

Conference of the Birds or Variations on a Theme. They both sound like Pilgrimage anyway.
i've got pilgrimage and god is good, which om album should i get next?
conference of the birds for sure

variations on a theme is good but it's definitely their weakest album

Tyler 09-18-2009 10:28 PM

Conference of the Birds is okay. I don't see the appeal to Om at all.

rasputin 09-18-2009 10:30 PM

yeah i remember reading some of your comments in that review. they're not for everybody i guess. i can see how they'd be boring.

Countorus 09-18-2009 10:30 PM

om appeals to my soul

Tyler 09-18-2009 10:31 PM

I'm sure I said something stupid. I do need to give them another chance, I just remember everyone slobbering over At Giza in particular and then when I played it, I don't know, it just didn't hit me like it apparently did everyone else.

Nepenthe 09-18-2009 10:32 PM

om are fairly good but very overrated

id have to really be in the mood for them to actually listen to them, and i dont think ive ever been in that mood and i probably never will be. but its pretty good music.

rasputin 09-18-2009 10:34 PM

have you heard pilgrimage or the new one? i actually prefer pilgrimage over conference.

Tyler 09-18-2009 10:35 PM

nah that's alls i have

will look further eventually

rasputin 09-18-2009 10:37 PM

yah pilgrimage is sorta different to conference, a lot more focused and perhaps more 'solemn'. it's got bass.

Jondur 09-23-2009 02:44 AM

Feel like I've neglected you guys. how's things?

Anyone going to the Dutch Doom Day? I only ask because I'll be there, thumping tubs for Unsilence on Saturday 24th October.

Nostalgia 09-23-2009 02:45 AM

hey dude, whatta you think of the WHW lineup change? Pretty disappointing, huh?

Jondur 09-23-2009 03:13 AM

Is this Tom no longer singing?

It's funny really, because he's a great, great singer but doesn't seem to like singing! Firstly he pulled out of doing Solstice and now WHW. This is pure speculation on my part but I wonder whether it stems from a gig they did in Belgium in 2003. Basically, Tom had some issues (I'm guessing women issues) and got steaming drunk, and I mean properly hammered, and had (unsurprisingly) a terrible gig. I don't think he managed to sing a full line himself - Frank from Mourning Beloveth/Old Season got up and did most of the gig for him.

I don't think they've played live since - but I may be wrong.

All the same I think it's a great shame. the new guy is a great singer but Tom's voice is part of WHW for me.
