Woah! Woah! I gave in and downloaded the new Bronx album.
I loved them before, but now I'm completely enamoured. Best rock record of the year so far. Some songs are kinda QOTSA-ish, some are just balls out punk. There's even an almost-ballad. |

I can't stop listening to them...it's been that way for a while. I think I'm going to write a review on "The Throes" soon. |

Yea, that's the album I have. The album has a few weak spots, but when it is good it is GOOD. |
Well, I suggest getting "What the Toll Tells", it's fantastic.

The few songs that I've heard from them are mindblowing. This morning so far: Rocky Votolato - Makers - Been meaning to hear this for ages but only just got around to downloading it. So far it's good. |

Xiu Xiu owns your face.

Xiu Xiu is over rated to the extreme.
Xiu Xiu is over rated to the extreme.
I find Fabulous Muscles a very challenging listen to say the least. |
I've been digging Therapy? and Manic Street Preachers lately :)
|
In my experience, the correlation between a band's perceived overratedness and the quality of said band's live show is pretty strong. Band's who play awesome sets tend to get their recorded stuff played down. Except Interpol. Those guys are just overrated and horrible all around.
Was digging this Eccentric Soul: The Capsoul Label compilation thing yesterday, some pretty nice songs and one absolute knockout in Kool Blues' "I'm Gonna Keep On Loving You." I'll probably continue the diggage trend. |
Butthole Surfers
Frank Zappa - Freak Out |
Brian Eno - Another Green World
Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music For Airports Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Let Love In I've been digging Another Green World alot more recently. Which Eno album/collaboration shall I get next? Also been digging The Magnetic Fields. |
Which Eno album/collaboration shall I get next?
Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy). That's what I'm currently diggining, it may actually be better then Another Green World. |
At the Drive-in had arguablly one of the best live shows, but their recordings are pretty average. Anyways, I just find Xiu Xiu does the same thing over and over again, it gets boring. 1 King Crimson32 2 Radiohead 31 3 Peeping Tom 21 4 Thom Yorke 16 4 A Silver Mt. Elvis 405 is the band's name. They're a pop-punk band that got attention briefly in the mid-90s because the number in their name is the area code for Oklahoma City. Everyone thought they were Timothy McVeigh sympathizers and they never lived it down. Guitarist John Hymenthal later killed himself by drinking bleach. |

1 A Tribe Called Quest 16
2 Leonard Cohen 15 3 Dead Kennedys 13 3 Elvis Costello 13 5 Elliott Smith 12 6 The Doors 10 7 Minutemen 8 8 AFI 6 8 Madness 6 10 Electric Light Orchestra 5 Nothin' amazing, a lot of stuff carried on from last week. Anyway, I'm listening to Brian Eno's Ambient 1: Music For Airports today. Such a beautiful album. I find it incredible how something so seemingly repetitive and simple like 1/1 can be simulataneously emotionally stirring. Brian Eno is a musical genious. |
