lol im studying australian history for university and i can safely say that in the 30's australia was more racist than nazi germany. We just didnt have any other races here to wipe out at that time. Australia let 52 non white europeans emmigrate between 1909 and 1959. 52!

they weren't considered people. We had an actual act of government called the white australia policy which basically stated if you weren't white we didnt want you in our country. And they developed this test called the dictation test. So whenever an asian or a black or whoever got of the boat they'd give them this test in which they had to write down 50 words that were dictated to them, in any specified european language. So this chinese guy could be asked to write down 50 words in latvian or macedonian or something. Basically it was designed so that whoever took it failed it and they managed to keep out pretty much every asian black and indian. Except of course when they wanted them for cheap labour. but thats another story

Apart from the fact there is absolutely no culturally interesting places to visit, and the current pop culture here, and the people, and the insane competitiveness of getting into a good college, and the government it's quite the place indeed.

Every place has its downsides. I like it.

Yes, I'm not a big fan of California's weather, nor that it is where all the pop culture figures live with Hollywood and Los Angeles being here. I do like the fact that the University of California system is great and that Silicon Valley is here, but I think I want to move somewhere else after I'm done with college. The unending days of sunny skies with no clouds are enough to drive me insane.

Everyone in America is too concerned with its politics to enjoy their lives. The country as a whole would be a lot better if its main focus wasn't bitching about how shitty the government is and actually made in effort to enjoy their life.

Oh no, i'm not ignorant. I just don't care enough to whine over nothing. Is the U.S. government good right now, no, but it's not terrible and in complete chaos dangering the citizens.

I'm not saying you are, just merely pointing out that it is dangerous to allow a government too much free reign. Personally I don't give a **** who is in control, all politicians are idiots, but I do think that there is a certain degree of stupidity in some politicians today that makes them dangerous because they are so blinded by their ideology.

I think certain regions of the US should split into their own nations, honestly. There's too many differing opinions for things to run smoothly imo.

Well, you can't blame the size, since other large countries like Russia, Australia and Canada do alright. You can't blame the population, since you just have to look at China and India (though that's going through periods of instability). So I guess it comes down to the people, like you said Mappy.
