Same.
Someone said something about how Jason looked very out of place with Metallica, I totally disagree with that.
Claypool tryed out for Metallica the same time as Newsted did. Claypool is an awesome bassist, but he would be totally out of place in Metallica. Primus is a great band for Claypool.

I'mhungryForASandwich 03-05-2005 10:49 PM
Not that I'm bashing Rob, but his performance leaves me cold and his image just makes Metallica seem like an everyday trucker band (don't ask me to explain, i have no clue why  ).
Jason was out of place with metallica too, though, and in my opinion claypool is the better bassist...So it surprises me that he wasn't picked over jason, but your right, claypool did fit very well in primus

Jason only felt out of place because the other band members did not give him enough credit/creativity etc. He wasn't out of place becaues he wasn't the right man for the job (IMO).

6stringslinger 03-05-2005 11:18 PM

What is Jason doing now, I know he is not with Echobrain or Ozzy, he must be still playing with Voivod. I read in an old interview that James shot down alot of Jason's ideas because his(Jason's) riffs sounded like Black Sabbath.

lecky 03-05-2005 11:34 PM

yeah jason is still playing with voivod. i love rob as metallica's bassist, i mean seriously the guy is so hard not to love, watch him play battery its incredible how nuts he goes and how fast he can pluck, also he has the most powerful power stance of any guitarist ive seen. jason was a good bass player i liked all of his little interlude things he did live, however i dont think he was creative enough on stage, he just follows the guitars

vashts80 03-05-2005 11:37 PM

The reason why he followed the guitars was because most of the riffs were wrote that way, IIRC.

As far as the whole bassist issue goes, and I've said this before, I believe that Rob is the most skilled of their three, but Jason had the most stage presence. I have started taking a liking to the crabwalk, though. It's teh pawnage.

Hey everyone my name is Mike. I made a new forum for classic rock from the 60's 70's and 80's only. There are not that many members, but after a little bit, I am sure it will get going good. Please join and start some threads. Thank you!

I think jason was plenty creative enough. Rob just looks weird IMO with metallica.

6stringslinger 03-05-2005 11:41 PM

I wonder if Jason will have regrets about leaving Metallica, I dont think he would go crawling back and I would say the decision is final, I doubt they would take him back.

they are not going to kick out rob for jason.

Though, I would perfer Jason.

PepsiMetal 03-05-2005 11:59 PM

Does Robert ever use a pick? All the vids I've seen including one on SKOM he used no pick. What do you guys think if metallica found a female bassist like the one that did seek and destroy on SKOM. Wouldn't that be cool or what?

i dunno, i dont usually like girls in bands for some reason.

6stringslinger 03-06-2005 12:13 AM

No, I don't think Rob uses a pick.

FlyingPaul_83 03-06-2005 12:55 AM

Rob is super good at fast plucking, i think thats cooler than playing with a pick
Rob is super good at fast plucking, i think thats cooler than playing with a pick
Newsted was an awesome pick bassist though. You have to give him that.

Chu 03-06-2005 01:13 AM

Didn't Newsted want to get back into Metallica?

I thought the girl that did Seek & Destroy ****en rocked, she could be the bassist for my (Uncreated) band anyday!

sg_sacrifice 03-06-2005 01:13 AM
But you totally miss my point. James writes all the riffs except the solos. Kirk just plays the lead riffs that James writes.
Actually, James doesnt write all the riffs, kirk wrote the main riff in enter sandman

vashts80 03-06-2005 01:13 AM

Rob actually does use a pick sometimes, according to a few interviews I read, but it's fingers 99.9% of the time.

Edit: sg_sacrifiice: Okay, James writes 99.8% of the riffs. Happy? He still writes a hell of a lot more than Kirk ever did/does.

ya, i know, im just puttin it out there, and ya james does seem a lot better than kirk, i still love kirks classic solos

sg_sacrifice 03-06-2005 01:23 AM

so is metallica for sure gonna release another album?

Huber 03-06-2005 01:31 AM

I'd say for sure.

6stringslinger 03-06-2005 02:24 AM

The Metallica website says they are now in the studio. To get to the part of the website where it says this you have to have a password or be in the Metclub or whatever.

I think they might be in the studio for a while, i heard rumors about an album this summer, I kind of doubt that......but I have been wrong once or twice in my life

I'mhungryForASandwich 03-06-2005 02:24 AM
so is metallica for sure gonna release another album?
I expect they will be realeasing albums even after all the original members are dead.

Chu 03-06-2005 04:45 AM
Actually, James doesnt write all the riffs, kirk wrote the main riff in enter sandman
And that's such a good song :p

lecky 03-06-2005 05:34 AM

im sorry but i dont find pick bassists to be nearly as skillful as pluckers, i mean any half decent guitarist can play bass with a pick, its the plucking where its at. rob and cliff are/were both better than jason IMO (although again i love jasons interludes)... still i dunno im gunna have to say i love them all and what theyve done for metallica, and i can leave it at that

Pisungen 03-06-2005 06:06 AM

But no matter what you say, there's only one real bassist for metallica, Cliff Burton, no matter how good he is, he was one of the original four (assuming that metallica wasn't a real band until "KEA")

Six Foot Revolver 03-06-2005 06:38 AM
But no matter what you say, there's only one real bassist for metallica, Cliff Burton, no matter how good he is, he was one of the original four (assuming that metallica wasn't a real band until "KEA")
No. They have all done there part for Metallica and are/were all real bassists for metallica

lecky 03-06-2005 07:04 AM

thankyou mxican thats what i was tryin to say

Pisungen 03-06-2005 08:56 AM
No. They have all done there part for Metallica and are/were all real bassists for metallica
Ofc they've all done something for metallica, but what I'm saying is that they'll never get a bassist that have been trough the same stuff as the other James, Lars and Kirk has... They've started their career together, and no-one will be able to get in and be like one of the others... see my point? A bassist isn't all about skill...

shadow_stalker 03-06-2005 09:01 AM
I went to a party last night and watched Cliif Em All, Cliff was brilliant.
I really want that, but i can never find it
But no matter what you say, there's only one real bassist for metallica, Cliff Burton, no matter how good he is, he was one of the original four (assuming that metallica wasn't a real band until "KEA")
Cliff wasnt the origional metallica bassist, just like Kirk wasnt the origional guitarist.

Pisungen 03-06-2005 09:04 AM
Cliff wasnt the origional metallica bassist, just like Kirk wasnt the origional guitarist.
That's why i wrote assuming that it all started on KEA...................

Pisungen 03-06-2005 09:05 AM

Btw. anyone got the answer on why they offen play tune ½ step down live?

shadow_stalker 03-06-2005 09:09 AM
You have to get it online, I've never seen it in a shop.
I hate ordering online, unless it is off amazon, i will wait till someone i know has it then steal it off them

Thor 03-06-2005 09:12 AM

Who was the original bassist then?

Pisungen 03-06-2005 09:12 AM
You have to get it online, I've never seen it in a shop.
It's not even buyable in denmark! :(

Pisungen 03-06-2005 09:14 AM
Who was the original bassist then?
I beleive it was Ron McGovney... Or was it DeeDee?

shadow_stalker 03-06-2005 09:17 AM
I beleive it was Ron McGovney... Or was it DeeDee?
