The Greatest = Cat Power

el doctor, No Direction is brilliant isn't it? I got it for christmas, it's such a great watch.
I love the part where Joan Baez recalls a conversation where Dylan was saying how all these people are going to debate over his lyrics and have all these theories as to what he means when in the end, he doesn't really even know what he means.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 08:50 PM

Exactly. He's so mysterious about his writing, even though you can tell he's defined what he's written in his mind.

BillCosby 01-12-2006 09:04 PM

I can't stop listening to Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 09:14 PM

It's a good album, no shame in it.

Well_Respected_Man 01-12-2006 09:32 PM

Blackalicious - Nia
Black Eyes - 7 Inch of Ruffian Records
The Microphones - The Glow Pt.2

Glitterati 01-12-2006 10:01 PM
All this talk of Cat Power has made me put on Moon Pix, and I'm digging it a lot again.

I also enjoyed me some Ellington this evening.
I need to find me some Ellington.

YDload 01-12-2006 10:02 PM

Dinosaur Jr.- some greatest hits album i found on someone's iTunes library. i think it's called "Ear-Bleeding Country." great collection of songs, makes me wonder what awesome ones they've almost invariably left off.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 10:10 PM

I reckon it will take until you're 30 to discover most of the seminal indie bands.
I reckon it will take until you're 30 to discover most of the seminal indie bands.
heh, you think you know J Mascis? I had a drink with him when he came to NZ once. pretty cool guy, bit of an ego problem though.

Little Man being Erased 01-12-2006 10:45 PM

Yesterday and today I've listened to:

Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Hot Snakes - Automatic Midnight

Ornery Cephalopod 01-13-2006 01:08 AM

ATM 01-13-2006 01:28 AM

Today I bought:

The Troggs - Hot Days
Kerosene 454 - At Zero (local band)
Butthole Surfers - Weird Revolution

...so I am digging all of those.

Apart from that, Fela Kuti is amazing.

Zmev 01-13-2006 03:38 AM

Bee Thousand
One Word Extinguisher

Zappa 01-13-2006 05:29 AM

Am I the only one who's noticed this thread going the OPPOSITE direction of what tangy said? As much as the guy bugs me, he's right. This thread is a little ridiculous when people make their "digging" posts as cryptic as possible.

Agreed. I never really got those 'lists'. Not that's a bad thing, but only lists really gets boring after awhile.

I'm not really stimulated checking out an artist when I see just names and titles scattered around everywhere.

br3ad_man 01-13-2006 08:19 AM
and I'm diggin' The Robot Ate Me so far
The Robot Ate Me are pretty cool, from the few songs I've heard. Oh No! Oh My! (The Jolly Rogers) are named after a Robot Ate Me song.
...but I'll be seeing them twice, oooh howd you like dem apples occa?
Oh shoosh.

I've been digging Pinkerton, but haven't actually listened to it. I had a conversation about it on the train home with my friend.

Ornery Cephalopod 01-13-2006 12:30 PM

Currently diggin' on 5ive.

Not the pop group 5ive, but the stoner/sludge/post-metal/drone/whatever group 5ive. It's a bit more repeatative/uneventful than what I can usually dig, but I'm apparently diggin' how these chaps do it.

Luxor 01-13-2006 03:43 PM
I'm digging Ampere. Which is like an emo band, only all of their songs are under two minutes. They're pretty great. I have three of their releases if anyone wants to AIM me for them.
All Our Tomorrows End Today is not a bad album for being 10 minutes long.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Funeral Diner, American Football and La Quiete.

Jawaharal 01-13-2006 04:10 PM

AFX - Hangable Auto Bulb
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
Envy - A Dead Sinking Story

rocknrollstar5 01-13-2006 04:10 PM

Floydfanatic 01-13-2006 04:13 PM

i've been diggin so

Phumes 01-13-2006 04:13 PM

Oh my god Fishbone is godly, and as of recent I heard a band called 'Mobile' on Muchmusic they had some skill. Sounded like a less poppy Killers. Also Modest mouse and The Flatliners have caught my eye as of late.

asdf 01-13-2006 04:14 PM

I'm having a difficult time not listening to Tom Waits, Gogol Bordello, and Mischief Brew. I just can't tear myself away from those bands.

Luxor 01-13-2006 04:35 PM
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
Envy - A Dead Sinking Story
Two completely different albums, but both really great.

Happymeal 01-13-2006 05:27 PM

An overly tense Friday to be chilled by Yo La Tengo, dEUS and Morphine.
