sean!you're the king!

i told you it was joe writing style..suckers :p
No you're the queen, I'm just a Clash whore :D.

But the part about Joe writing it about Iranians isn't entirely true, it had alot more to do with Bernie.

guns_of_brixton 03-23-2005 09:48 PM

Ok guys, I've got a game. Whoever can find out who Mickey Gallagher was and what he had to do with the Clash gets 10 points. Ready, go!

CombatRock 03-23-2005 09:57 PM

he helped out on some clash cds..like on sandiniasta with other instruments

White Riot! 03-23-2005 10:00 PM

he was a keyboardist they hired for the us tour

guns_of_brixton 03-23-2005 10:01 PM
i didnt know mick was a jew...are you sure?

edit: i dont why i said 'was' cause he's not dead...yet.
I don't think he was, since he said he thought it was Jewish thing, so he probably wasn't a Jew.

And Travis is correct! 10 points :thumb:.

And I also read this, and its one of the saddest things I've ever read because it makes me think of Joe :upset:.
Clash members Mick Jones and Joe Strummer played White Riot together for the last time in November, 2002. Jones was in the audience for one of Strummer's solo shows and came onstage to join him. Strummer usually didn't like to play this, but he turned to Jones and said, "This one's in 'A', you know it." Strummer died of a heart attack a month later.
EDIT: White Riot! is also correct.

CombatRock 03-23-2005 10:04 PM

that was a good passage sean...

none anserwed my questions though

what were the clash religous belifs

guns_of_brixton 03-23-2005 10:10 PM

Just a guess, but they were probably all born Christian, but were never very religous.

CombatRock 03-23-2005 10:13 PM

no one has offical infromation on this?

White Riot! 03-23-2005 10:14 PM

I heard Mick's song "MP FREE" from his new band carbon/silicon. it reflects Mick's view about P2P filesharing. Mick believes that people should be free to rip, mix and burn music and encourages fans to record and distribute gig recordings.

guns_of_brixton 03-23-2005 10:16 PM

I'll search for some info.

But in the meantime, I noticed that in Police and Thieves, Joe added "THey're goin' through a tight wind" which is a line from the Ramones song Blitzkreig Bop. I think it might be some sort of a tribute, because on Westway Joe was saying how much he loved the Ramones 1st album.

This definetly makes sense, since they had the prices of London Calling and Sandinsita lowered.

And as for religon, none of the sites I found said anything, One site said they weren't sure about Joe, though.

Here's The Lyrics

MP.FREE

i believe in MP3
i believe in P2P
i just burnt my own CD
the day the music was free......
in the 21st century - the day the music was free!....

I believe in P 2 P..............supersharers...
A billion downloads can1t be wrong...
A billion people heard my song....
So, Goodbye Mr Copyright...
the fame will keep me up all night..

I just surfed right down your street
sampled your tune, borrowed your beat
that's the way the bytes go round
they make the revolution sound...

Shakespeare, Michael Angelo
Had no corporation Hos
Def to majors, their lawyers suck
Now people don't give a ****!

in the 21st century -
the day the music was free!....

Mick is a great guy too!

ohhh and Gumby...you really read the whole thread?you're awesome.welcome dude :amaze:

sketchyjoe 03-24-2005 05:16 PM

The lyrics do seem very trite.

CombatRock 03-24-2005 05:57 PM

somone listen to this song and tell us about it!

sketchyjoe 03-24-2005 06:18 PM

Why are you raving about it? Those lyrics are pretty terrible.

Fuck rhymed with suck? WOW! He's a revolutionary!

Forest_Fire 03-24-2005 07:09 PM

This is why it's the Joe Strummer thread. Not the Mick Jones thread

Sweeeet. one of my friends who used to like the clash, just said he can give me a bunch of their albums.

White Riot! 03-24-2005 09:11 PM

Strummer was a goof sometimes! He used to climb his neighbours fences to swim in their pools and johnny cash was recording at one of his neighbours studio's at the time and joe saw him and decided to greet mr cash , even though he didnt know him.

How cool is that!

Yea, Joe had a great sense of humor. That helped the Clash stay together.

White Riot! 03-24-2005 09:19 PM

Another funny thing he did was writing lyrics on pizzaboxes and toilet paper!

guns_of_brixton 03-24-2005 09:21 PM

You know about the car lighting on fire, right?

White Riot! 03-24-2005 09:23 PM

hell yeah!

on the subject of cars , how cool is his vintage rock and roll caddillacs?

guns_of_brixton 03-24-2005 09:27 PM

Joe's Cadillacs was sweet, but after he died somebody sold one of them. At the menu of the Essential Clash dvd, it shows the Clash riding around in one of Joe's Cadillacs.

GhettoBox 03-24-2005 09:57 PM
hell yeah!

Is that why Tim Armstrong has a cadillac in the Transplants cover? BEcause of his obsession with Joe Strummer?
