Progressive is all about the progression of music. It's about trying new things and trying to elevate muic itself in some form or another. This is both good and bad.

On the one hand, we have acts like Rush (prog music that even non-musicians can enjoy), Yes (every style of music can work together), and Pink Floyd (changing the way we look at styles like the blues).

And on the other, we venture into the mindlessly self-indulgent. The biggest name that comes to mind here is Dream Theater. Astounding virtuosos, but I'm beginning to agree with Ripper22 (another of the R&M regulars) that Mike Portnoy's ego has turned them into one of the most coma-inducing bands ever.

It depends on personal preference. Personally, I'm a big fan of Rush, Queensryche, and Pink Floyd. I recently posted a thread on some lesser known atmospheric prog bands, my favorite of which being Ozric Tentacles.

Pink Floyd is actually considered Acid Rock. I don't think prog metal existed during their time

Yeah, I saw them live at a Livestock fest and they blew all these so called "nu-metal" bands that came onstage afterwards, straight out of their socks. For $8 per ticket [U]not[/U] going to see their show should be a crime :thumb:

After carefully looking over all of our posts, made by the both of us in this thread, I came to realize that my personal behavior in this forum was totally rude, crude and unacceptable. Some remarks that I made here have put me to shame, embarassment and disbelief that I could even say things like that to people. I understand that my sarcastic and hostile behavior was completely uncalled for, and wish to ask you to forgive my sorry a$$. It is undoubtedly true that I have started this senseless flame war and therefore everything that I said to offend you - I'm taking back. So once again I would like to say that I'm truly, deeply sorry about making those derogatory remarks and hopefully this letter of apology will make me feel less disgusted with myself. If you're talking about the last couple pages, it was mostly the same guy registering over and over again with new accounts for the sole purpose of harassing me and everyone else who didn't like him. Which was pretty much everybody.

I see many posts made by you that are irrelevant to the topic of this thread, how come you didn't get banned too ?

I wasn't trying to be a douchebag. Drone started the parade of bull**** and just wouldn't shut up. When Bartender called for a ceasefire, I listened and Drone kept sniping anyway. So he got perma-banned.
